You are giving up more for Ekholm then the Muzzin deal. The equal is Hollowell, Hallander and a 1st.
I'd imagine so because Ekholm is better.

if this happened, the only trigger i'd be pulling would be the one i'd use to murder Kyle Dubas
You know high profile celebrities have been gone after before for many reasons but "providing his team with arguably the best D core in the NHL" might be a first.

A guy like Kerfoot would have to go to create any kind of meaningful wiggle room. But would also create a hole in the lineup. Long story short the Leafs are in a straight jacket and this might be the group.

Leafs currently have enough TD projected cap space to demote a player making league minimum $700k, and comfortably promoting or adding one making $800k.

Yeah but trading an A prospect doesn't make sense. Ekholm is more of a luxary then a need anyways

Goaltending is absolutely the #1 area that needs to be addressed. It is no where near good enough. I don’t think Dubas will do anything about it though.

Kerfoot needs to be traded.

That Kadri guy would have been good if we still had him.
Would Kadri stop Andersen from being a bad goaltender? No

Until our big guns score more than 1 goal combined in 2 "win or go home" games (game 7 against Boston and game 5 against CBJ), we are going nowhere. It's not all goaltending.
Knew the blaming somebody else for Andersen was coming.
If our offense play the exact same way like they did against the Jackets, they will score. They outplayed them. I'm confident the other team won't get super human goaltending again, so it is mainly Andersen that is the problem.

We could just be looking at depth options in the event of injuries. Not sure which forward would be removed from a healthy lineup? Vesey might be the closest to that and he's played in every game thus far. Can't imagine there being much of an appetite to replace one of the six defenders either following the trade of Lehtonen. Maybe a goalie should Campbell's status be uncertain closer to the deadline?

I like how the Toronto media somehow is ignoring this. Every trade related article I read is about how we might get another top 6 forward or top 4 dman.

Those are nice to have but there is one glaringly obvious need and it’s in goal.

It's undeniable, but at a trade deadline? I am trying to think of the last time a team traded for a number 1 goalie at the deadline.

Some pretty hard rumours with the Jackets I guess. Don't think that is new news. Have a friend who is a Jackets fan, saying he is hearing Foligno and Jenner for Kerfoot, Engvall, Lilegren and a pick, contingent on Foligno signing an extension.

I don't think I would complain about that...

They need five pieces (6 if you include goaltending) on the cheap:

1) #5 LD - Dermott upgrade with size who can kill penalties (M. Staal)
2) #7 RD - (Matt Irwin - Left handed)
3) #8 LD - (Merrill)
4) #3 C - (E.Staal)
5) Gritty #2 LW - (N. Foligno)
*6) Taxi G - (Bernier)

OUT: Kerfoot, Dermott, Engvall, Vesey, Picks/Prospects

Hyman Matthews Marner
Foligno Tavares Nylander
Mik E.Staal Simmonds
Thornton Boyd Spezza
Robertson

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Holl
M. Staal Bogo

Andersen
Campbell
Bernier

Do people actually expect 5 or 6 pieces to come in before the deadline? Doesn't seem realistic. I could see 2 trades maybe, but I kind of only expect one.

There is no goaltending help out there that I can see right now. Certainly nothing worth giving up assets for. If we don't resign Andersen, that's a summer move imo. I see forwards coming in, guys with some jam, and maybe a depth D.

Not sure how true that rumour really is but if it were to happen, I also wouldn’t mind it at all. The addition of Foligno and Jenner to this group would be massive.

I think if our forward core gets battered throughout the playoffs, we can still survive with plug and play.

if we lose a couple defencemen to injures come playoff time, the water starts to get preeeeetty murky. Ready for Martin Marincin? How certain are we Sandin will be able to step in and play big minutes in a playoff series? Same goes for Liljegren.

I just like our forward depth more and if we improve our defence it'll make me less uneasy about Andersen too.

The only reason they should trade for Ekholm is if they plan on moving off Muzzin in the offseason. (I would support this scenario happening)

He's way too expensive for a just in case scenario.

If there was a glaring hole in the top 4, I'd be all about it.

Priorities should be

1) A legitimate starting goalie
2) 3C
3) Upgrade on Dermott

1) Right with you and couldn't agree more.

2) I'm actually OK with Engvall if Hyman's on the line. They won't score much, but can shut things down and create a lot of energy as they have shown.

3) Never a bad idea to get veteran defence when you can...I'm not as down on Dermott as you are though. I think the guys they have a probably good enough if the team as a whole buys into the plan.

Thats pretty much the same offer that one website had who is not reliable. Plus conditional on resigning is not allowed anymore, so I don't buy that rumor.

Id wager management is viewing a healthy Campbell as the main way to "fix" the goalie issue for the rest of the season and playoffs.

A top 6-9 forward is probably the safest thing to expect. There's a decent enough amount of smoke there from trusted media guys that it'll likely happen.

Then again a lot of Dubas' trades have come out of left field, no real rumors about the Muzzin or Kap trades happened before the official need broke. Maybe there's some surprises to be had

A good genral rule to follow is rarely trust any rumor that claims to know every single piece +pick condition in a trade. Especially if they're claiming there are multiple assets involved
