I dunno.

The win feels like a distinction without a difference in terms of overall product.

It's a win, sure. But for a waived off goal and but for Matthews pantheon level play. Those two shouldn't be dismissed because we got a win. They should preserve a sense of sobriety that we are no different from the last five games.

I will take the two points and move on. Hopefully the team knows Jones(1st period) and AM saved them tonight.
But the team is lacking speed or at the very least, players need to move their feet more.

Who would’ve thought a fast and skilled player could produce in the NHL. We need a few more players like him.
His coach was a bit late to that party (healthy scratch). At times, both the previous and current GM arguably were as well (demotions to the AHL).

Couldn't hit the Atlantic ocean if shooting off of Cavendish Beach. :eek3:

Maybe a $2M raise will help with his shot !!! :sarcasm:

That reminds me of a story I heard many years ago about one of the Leafs forwards who was going through a rough patch, and a reporter said he couldn't put a puck in the ocean.

I think they were in Boston, and Punch took him to the docks, dumped a bunch of pucks, and told him to shoot. First shot hit a pole, second landed on a garbage scow, and he broke his stick on the third shot.

Punch said "we'll work on your defence".

I don't remember the exact details (I heard it from Carl Brewer about 45 years ago), but that's the gist of it.

Deserved/underserved/ugly win. Matthews!

They had so many chances to bury the Flames and didn't.

For all the grief Tavares is taking here recently, especially in the D zone, I'd simply ask what the heck people are expecting him to do with Bert and Willy doing sfa. I see JT working, trying his best, tying up people in front of the net, and all I see from his wingers is stationary, very slow feet from Bert, and Willy looking to break the zone as soon as a Leaf player gets within 10 feet of the puck. This isn't saying Tavares is the second coming of Marchand, but jeez louise, he and the D are playing 3 v 5 with what the wingers are contributing.

Thank you vid review guy.

Thank you ref for that slashing call against Calgary with a minute or so left.
You must have watched this game drunk.
How many Nylander setups were blown?

The man can pass, but he can't be on the receiving end of his own passes.

Change up that line for goodness sake quit wasting the talent.

Played well.

Matthews was outstanding.

But that glove hand pass rule is weak. No way does Coleman intend to pass the puck to a teammate. It deflected off his outstretched hand. Leafs benefited from a rule that shouldn't be a rule. But I'll take it.

Missed the game .. WTF happened on that call back 4th goal from Calgary - when was the hand pass?
As the Leafs were trying to clear the puck it glanced off Coleman's outstretch hand and to a Calgary player. The rule is that even if the contact with the hand isn't intentional, it counts as a glove hand pass. It's a pretty lame rule. The puck hitting a hand is no different than if the puck inadvertently glanced off any other body part. There was no intentional direction by Coleman. It barely touched his finger. But since that's the rule, the right call was made.

People probably forget that the Leafs had the exact same goal called back vs ARZ last season.

The video clearly shows he swatted at the puck and caused to it go straight to the CGY player. Had he not done so the puck would have cleared the zone and no goal would have been scored.

A lot of Leaf $$$ in forwards on the ice for that clip but guess they're being paid to just score goals. So they think.

What are the forwards supposed to do about a goalie messing up a bad angle shot?

Looks like he was inspired by Draisaitl last game and it worked out

Unless your view is if a shot even comes close to our goalie - it is our players fault and Jones should be paid to face no shots a game.

Jones messed up big time too but he's a 3rd stringer and hardly getting paid. The high priced forwards on the ice need to play better defensively long before Jones needs to stop it. As a line they are too slow going from offence to defense and/or too uncommitted or just too tired.

I don't get what the forwards are supposed to do differently on that play.

Other teams player takes a weak shot from behind the net, Jones misplays it but pretends he has the puck. Player taps it in while Jones is pretending to have the puck.

I don't think anyone expects their goalie to pretend to have the puck when he doesn't.

Waited for the game, fell asleep during pregame, missed the whole game, woke up at 1:15 AM, wide awake at 3:50 AM, and have to be at work for 7:00….

FML…… but yay, our video coaches won!
