Post-Game Talk: Leafs win 3-2

What’s a bit underrated here is how good the Leafs looked in the back half of a back to back, albeit not a traditional back to back.

Great PK. Doubled the opp in shots. Gave up 19 shots. Gave up 2 hard to score goals against. PP was good.

It was a dominating performance. Murray kept them in it.

Good game aside from Campbell letting in 2 soft goals .

If we’re moving on from Andy we need to find a starter because Campbell isn’t one .

He only allowed the serendipitous be goal by Paul when the pick hit him and fell right in front of him, and the great play by Stuzle. No soft goals. I guess Marners was soft, but that was on Murray.

He made a key save when we needed it. He had a solid game, definitely better than Freddy in either of his first two games. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Keefe go back to Freddy Monday night though and if he has a subpar to a bad game then back to Campbell for Wednesday’s game.

I pick hockey. I watch more than most on this board and I’m actually one of the few Leafs fans that watch the playoffs, hence the reason I’m not as excited about the format as the Leafs only fans.

No controversy yet per se. But Freddy has been dog shit for 2 years now. There’s no way I’d be negotiating with this guy throughout the season, let him earn a new contract or see where the chips fall in the Summer.

Thornton just had a fantastic game. This makes no sense. It's like people decided he can't be on the top line and no matter the results won't change their opinion. He's fine there so far.

Not true. Your perception of context is severely tilted towards your biases and the points you’re trying to prove. The context was that the Leafs were up 2-1 and dominating play. Probably should have made it 3-1 with a few solid offensive shifts with pressure. Instead Freddy lets in 2 in under 2 minutes and we’re down. That changed the game. Then we come out for the third and he lets in another trash goal to all but seal it. Team played well outside of Brodie and Freddy last night, but Freddy cost us 2 points.

the second goal was a nice shot by Stuzle but Campbell was squared up to the shooter and the puck went right through him on the short side , that should have been a routine save

if Andy let in these goals he'd be getting ripped but since it's our new toy he gets a free pass

No, the team did not play well on Friday. Their defensive zone coverage was horrible. That wasn't on Andersen. Even when they dominated for 6 minutes in the 2nd period, every time the puck was in their zone, it was handled like a live grenade.

Yes Andersen needs to be better. No, he didn't cost them the game on Friday night.

This team’s problems are consistency, work ethic, and physicality. Same as last year and the year before. Good win against a really inferior opponent, just how exactly did they lose to the Sen’s on Friday night is a huge worry.

Game 2 of 56 with no exhibition games is not a real big concern. It should be expected.

Sad our expectations are to allow 3+ GAA in a game like that, but it's true

He has been and many have claimed them "not his fault". These are exactly the type of goals Fred's allowed this year at a much higher frequency.

Campbell was "meh" last night and that's a huge upgrade over the goaltending we've got so far. Terrible, I know.

I'll take the bad with the good when it comes to watching hockey. Games 5-6-7/ 9-10 v. CGY, OTT won't be any different than games 1or 2 vs. Arizona or Minnesota, but at least there was some variety there.

Then you lose out on any games vs. Colorado, VGK, etc..

I understand it had to be done, but its not exciting IMO

Campbell was fine yesterday. Did what we should expect from a back up. He didn’t do anything to make them think he’s taking the job from Freddy. Freddy gets next start.

the only reason Campbell didn't lit up even more last night was dues to the team playing better and limiting the chances against

hopefully Andy goes down for a few weeks so Campbell and Dell can take the reins , get filled in and then this nonsense about Campbell being a potential starter disappears like how Evegni Malgin/Carcone among others had upside when we obtained them . lol

Indeed. Too bad Andy has proven three years running hes incapable of doing that on the playoff stage.
