one of only (2 guys?) with a cup ring

and you say he has no voice,?,,,lmfao that says more bad things about this team then you realize.
He won a cup as a 6A D they scrambled to cover all playoff who's been awful since putting on a Leafs uniform. There's a reason TB dressed 7D most of the playoffs and rode their top 3 LHD so heavily.

I have concerns about the core of this Leafs team, but I can't see Bogosian being the voice of solid defense on this (or any) team

your elitism is rather pathetic mate

a team far far better then us deemed him worthy of a starting position during their biggest PO run

He's playing a bigger role here than he did in TB so far...

You also understand that a better team doesn't mean every piece of their roster is incredible, right?

The right side D on Tampa was an issue they overcame to win a cup, not a strength of theirs.

Some teams lack scoring, some lack goaltending, they were weak on RD. It's no secret and shouldn't be a surprise to you

Indeed. Too bad Andy has proven three years running hes incapable of doing that on the playoff stage.

Its not that Campbell has proven he can. Its that Andersen has proven he cant.

No, the Leafs have proven they are not ready to bring it in the playoffs. That falls on the whole team. Not Andersen.

Once again, thoughts after sleeping on it;

- Jack Campbell was steady. Had to make a couple difficult saves, but wasn't a busy night for him. I'm sure he wishes he had that Stutzle goal back.

- Jimmy Vesey has been all over the ice. He's also been impressive on the penalty kill. Even if he doesn't stick on the Tavares line all year, and bumps down to the Kerfoot line, he needs to keep this mentality up.

- TJ Brodie was incredible last night. Broke up several odd man rushes.

- Mitch Marner had his best game..... in a real long time.

- I hope we use this opportunity to get Joey Anderson into a game. I think he can bring a similar tenacity/energy that Robertson brings. Obviously not as skilled as Robertson, but that's not a big deal on the fourth line.

- Overall, a really solid win. A couple breakdowns, but a lot more of a complete game. Bring on Winnipeg!

Better game from the lads. Thought both Marner and Matthews had good games. Our top pair did much better as well. Kerfoot played pretty well I thought.

Onwards and upwards we go ......

wrong season for that attitude jimbo

this is a "start in 3rd gear" season mate , seeing EVERY game is a 4 point game

I understand how it works sir.
I just don't think I'm going to jump up and down like after every loss. Especially game 2 against a team I don't really think will be our competition by the time game 36 roles around. Perhaps I've mellowed with old age.

Nobody really had a bad night, which is good. No game is going to be perfect, but outside of a few misplays and a lot of bad bounces once again, we played about as well as you could hope.

No, the team did not play well on Friday. Their defensive zone coverage was horrible. That wasn't on Andersen. Even when they dominated for 6 minutes in the 2nd period, every time the puck was in their zone, it was handled like a live grenade.

Yes Andersen needs to be better. No, he didn't cost them the game on Friday night.

By no means was it a perfect game. Yes the people in front of him are expected to play at a certain level. I think they played more than well enough leading up to that point to win the game. Goalie needs to stop giving up weak and untimely goals.

Start of the game was a real problem for him last year. Weak and untimely goals are still a problem. He lets one by him in the 2nd fine, let’s tighten up and refocus, it’s a tie game. Nope, let’s in another one within 2 minutes, then a fourth goal, and a fifth goal right at the start of the third period to bury us. All while finishing with <.800sv%. He absolutely cost us points Friday.

While it's a fact we have a couple young D men to add to this team, they have left me wanting. Last night's game could have gone either way. Dadanov is a crafty player that will add a lot to that team's chemistry as they hit their stride. We on the other hand had everyman on deck to scratch out a one goal win.

My 3 stars from this game:

1. Marner - 3 points and was buzzing around all night keep the Sens D guessing
2. Campbell - solid timely saves and stopped everything that he should have, really hope he keeps the pressure on Freddie and gets in more games
3. Matthews - Dominant, really could've had multiple goals and was mixing it up physically after whistles and even throwing the body around a little on the forecheck ... more of that please!

The bad:
Really nobody stuck out as bad although if I'm being picky Willy's timing seemed off, even though his hustle was there for the most part

Thornton's goal was nice to see. I know a lot of people here don't want to see him on that first line but Matthews and Marner need a wily veteran like him to look up to and to feed off of. They both seem to smile a lot more with Joe around, and him keeping it loose out there is good for them to remember to still have fun and use their creativity when they play and not think too much.

Throwing Hyman out there with them for an extra shift or stacking up with JT every now and then should keep Jumbo's legs fresh as the season goes on. I'd prefer if Marner jumped off the PK when Matthews does after the faceoff as he gets hemmed in and stuck out on the PK a little too much for my liking.

Also, big bounce back game from Brodie ... his stretch passes are slick and he's exactly what we needed, really whoever was calling him Gardiner or Barrie on Friday night gotta be joking because those two were train wrecks mentally and would carry their previous mistakes into the next game. Brodie doesn't do that, he's legit

sometimes teams play different in front of different tenders

maybe it takes soup in net to get the lads to play a better game

I see it simply as hockey is a game of momentum and when Andersen (or Hutchinson/Sparxx) let in the softies, it really deflates this team. There's this muscle memory that takes over and woosh, the game is out of our control. The first half of Friday, we looked a bit like the Harlem Globetrotters vs the Washington Generals and then Andersen worked his magic. Sorry if the Globetrotter reference has been used already - I couldn't get arsed to read the rest of this thread

I still feel like the Leafs are a little out of sync in the offensive zone. They look fine on the rush, but during the cycle players aren't where they need to be

Keep in mind too that this is Ottawa we’re playing against so whatever barely worked in this 3-2 win will also need to be refined and executed at a much higher rate against better teams.

Ottawa didn't even land 20 shots on net. The majority of the game was spent in their zone.

I think there is a general sense of underrating this Ottawa team throughout this thread. I would be surprised if they are a playoff team, however, they are not the basement dwellers of the past 2 seasons. They have some great young talent that is taking steps in the right direction, some more depth pieces that are competent, and a goalie that is going to keep them in games they have no right in being in.

They are going to compete in games more than they have in the past and all the teams in this North division are going to have some L's against them and close calls.

the first goal he was moving to his right , away from the center the net for some reason which left too much room

the second goal was a nice shot by Stuzle but Campbell was squared up to the shooter and the puck went right through him on the short side , that should have been a routine save

if Andy let in these goals he'd be getting ripped but since it's our new toy he gets a free pass
No, he doesn't. He just didn't let in a soft goal last night.

What game did you watch last night? Sen’s we’re pathetic, defensive breakouts were embarrassing to witness, that 2 man advantage was another sad display, my heart goes out to the Ottawa Valley boys, it’s going to be a long long shortened season IMO.
