Post-Game Talk: Leafs win 3-2 against the Preds

Our play was kind of concerning for large stretches of this game, but wins are wins. Good job by Woll to settle down after the bad break.
Crazy that we didn't get an empty net goal. First the ref blocking Marner's shot, and then Tavares missing it by a second. Glad it didn't screw us.
Reaves comes back and the 4th line gets caved in. 9.39 xGF%. Myers 30.09 xGF%. Worst among our defenseman. Holmberg dropped out of the top six in the 3rd.

The crazy thing is I was never really worried that they wouldn't get the win they should get. Kinda not good for two periods, but not really not good, they were there. And then go win it in third. Bravo boys, that's how good teams do it.

Despite the late goal, liked how they ragged down the clock down the back of the 3rd. Good to watch.

Team has a Burnsie early 90's feel, except with better offence. Really excited for every game.

They have chemistry on the dime. Put them together mid game and it’s there, I don’t mind needing to put them together in a pinch but I think both turn each other into 1 dimensional offensive players too often. Matthews becomes a pure goal scorer and Marner a playmaker. Works wonders in the regular season, but gets stopped in the playoffs.

I like the look of the lines, especially with players coming back we could put domi with nylander and Matthews then knies with Tavares and Marner. That moves the big 29 down to 3rd line at least.

Minten is real er good and getting better.
I would be shocked if he was sent to the AHL..
Anyone adding him in trade decussion s don't because he is going knowhere.
He was our best player until the big boys showed up.
At minimum we have our 3rd line center.
When he gets stronger look out Knies incredible pass
Woll great game again

Holmberg and Robertson will be traded

Leafs winning games they're supposed to be winning is a new look.

Prior to this year a game like this had stinker written all over it. Losing against bottom feeders is what prevented the Leafs from winning their division while Keefe was coach. Playing down to the competition was a valid criticism in recent years.

So wins like this are pleasure to watch.

Even when Berube does things in a very Keefe-like manner. Matthews with Marner as a nuclear option when things aren't going well is a page taken right out of Keefe's playbook. As an option of last resort I can appreciate it but any other time those two should remain separated.

Minten is better than anyone on the bottom six and should remain anchoring the third line.

Putting him on the wing to replace Holmberg makes the bottom six worse more than it makes the top six better. Holmberg isn't a very good player and should be the first one benched once everyone is back healthy. I'm not sure why Marner was upset with the ref for getting in the way of a clear path to the empty net.

Knowing Marner he would have just dropped the puck back to nobody anyways.
 
We seriously need to start shooting pucks at referees, at least 15 times a game. They need to fear for their life to make them understand what kind of dogs they are. Put them dogs in their place fellas.

We HAVE to upgrade on OEL, he is sinking faster than the Titanic. Absolutely terrible with Rielly.
 
On Matthews second goal, Knies made a great play with the back pressure on Carrier where there was a slight stick check that led to Carrier losing possession.

He then actually finished his check which took both Carrier and O'Rielly out of the play and limited their ability to backcheck which opened up space for Matthews when entering the zone.
Knies has been making alot of these little winning plays all season.

Plays like this are so important when the post season gets here. Hit make space when there is none.

A billion percent guaranteed Kampf is in the playoff lineup (along as healthy). He'll be in there.

At this stage I'd rather Kampf in the four hole. Way better on the PK, better defensively, better on the dot, both are disgusting on offence so nothing different there. Kampf has shown up im the playoffs.
