A win is a win, but poor final 10 minutes of the 3rd, just like with Tampa the other night. Non-existent forecheck - just flipping it out and letting Nashville attack over and over.. old habits die hard.
This team is 2 points out of first overall in the league, and will almost certainly be first overall by the end of this month, and you're complaining about how they defended a 2 goal third period lead against a terrible team?

Marner was fine without him though. Honestly a bit disappointed we needed to do this to light a fire under Matthews. Guys on Leafs post game thought the same. I like having them separate, at least for stretches.
Honestly felt from puck drop that Matthews was gonna have a night and it just wasn’t going in. I agree though, love having two killer top lines.

While I think most important is a matter of some debate, he’s clearly very very important, and I agree with the overall sentiment of your post.

He makes players better

Nylander with matthews doesn’t work
Marner with Matthews is gold

Mitch hits him with a pass every time right in the sweet spot
You watch matthews doesn’t have to coral a poor pass. Mitch passes are right on the mark

Mitch Marner is the Leafs Mr. Fixit.

Who ever is struggling just put Marner with him and it will solve the problem

Credit to Berube — sometimes ya gotta read the room (or in this case, the rink). He could have been a stubborn old coot and just left the lines be, but like a smart coach, he read the comments on the GDT and knew it was in his best interest to put M&M back together at a time when everything seemed stalled. Also, sending Holmberg down a line and promoting Minten was based.

Lmao Holmberg is lucky the star players love him because the play dies on his stick.

Keefe was the last of the Dubas stink that they kept around far longer than they needed to.

Can appreciate Tre and Berube atleast knowing what a real hockey team should look like.

I was never comfortable in that game, even at 3-1.

But they found a way, that's what this team does they find ways to win.

It's not always pretty, tonight certainly wasn't but they find ways to win and they did it again.

Yeah, seems last year we’d have outright blown a few leads under Keefe. It also doesn’t hurt that our defence is a sizeable upgrade from last year and we have 2 goalies who are mentally fit, at least as far as goalies go.
