Really ? I mean Really ? how many 100+ goal seasons has Mathews had ? give your head a shake bud it doesn't matter how many these guys score if the Goalie and the D insist on giving up more every night .

I clearly wrote that he can score 8 goals in 5 games, not that he always does for an entire season, he did score 7 goals in 4 games already this season and 5 goals in 3 games.

As I said, I agree that Andersen sucks and can't steal games for us but it still matters very much how much they score, all they needed was one more goal in 3 of those 6 losses to tie it up but they just can't score when they need it anymore. Even the one win in OT they have, they still gave up the 3-2 lead with just over 3 minutes to play.

Picture it, you are on the Leafs. You just battled through the dirty areas, took 2 cross checks in the back, got pasted into the boards maybe even a high stick in the slot. You just spat out a tooth, but its ok, because you lifted one high glove and you are up 1-0. You try a pass to a teamate, it gets intercepted, bam, its in the net. Your goaltender just let in a goal on his 5th shot against.

How eager are you to go lose another tooth when your goaltender isnt doing his job?

I would love to know over the last 2 years how many times Andersen has made it to 10 shots before letting one in.
That will be an eye opening stat, I guarantee it.
How many maple leafs put themselves in a positions for any of this? Everything about this team is butter soft, right up to the post game interviews of players and coaches.

Cool for your opinion , but ...
I totally disagree with you on the player giving up on or not trying to , or losing a tooth for ...
As as athlete of any kind in any sport , that when your in a game playing , weather you like the guy / girl next to you , that your going to do whatever it takes to try to win at all costs ..
In Team sports at all levels , being part of a team and winning it all within a team aspect that is the most important and thrilling !
Sorry , I totally disagree
Go Leafs Go!

I agree that Andersen sucks, I've wanted Campbell to be our starter for a while now. However I still can't understand with the talent that we have, why we can't score a game-tying goal against the lowly Sens and yet they scored 5 unanswered goals against us to erase a 5-1 deficit to a 6-5 win.

Oh and that stuff you said about getting cross checked and losing a tooth, just remember how much money these players make for that. They make more in one season (8 months) than many make in a decade or more (and that's compared to the league min, not what our stars are making).

We have a bad goalie, that is the problem everyone else is fine. But yes nobody is perfect. The skaters are fine.

Oh really, then let's blame the goalie (not that I'm favoring Andersen, he totally sucks) for the sucky PP and PK in these last 7 games (the cause of most of those losses), let's blame Andersen for the fact that we could only muster up 3 total goals against the Nucks in 2 games when these same Leafs scored 15 goals against the Nucks in 3 games only a few weeks earlier.

We have a total of 18 goals in the last 7 games, that's an average of 2.57 per game (Sens goals per game average for 33 games is 2.63). Before that, we had 87 goals in 24 games which is an average of 3.65 per game, something is wrong with our offense also.

The goaltending is the largest reason for the poor PK and we've scored 3 goals in half of those losses.

Even with bad goaltending we shouldn't be any worse than ~.500 over the last 7 games

We still have the 2nd most goals in the league, only 7 behind. Scoring is not our issue.

Would be nice to score first. We've only scored first once in the last seven, I believe. Can't keep spotting the opposition an early first lead.

That's because of the 3.65 GF average over the first 24 games, not the 2.57 GF average over the last 7 games. If we keep this 2.57 average up, we are not making the playoffs. I just can't help thinking back to 2014, this feels exactly like it.

Of course I hope they can turn it around but after 4 days of rest and playing a non-playoff tired team and not being able to score more than 3 goals doesn't give me much hope. Let's hope Campbell can get a shutout to save this poor offensive team.

If Jack plays well tonight that will give him a chance to seize the reigns and show us what he is capable of, while Andersen can focus on getting healthy.

But you ride the hot goalie into the playoffs, i don't care who it is.

Your point went right through Andersen, while we’re at it.

Just like every single semi-decent scoring chance against, apparently.

Pretty sure Andersen would know what I was talking about. Matthews and half the locker room as well.

Let's see what Jack can do tonight.
Does not Make a difference on what Jack Campbell does tonight. He can stand on his head and shut out Calgary, and Andersen will still be back in next game and be the starter the rest of the season.

Yup. Is this also a shot at Freddy? I think yes and no.

It's not a shot necessarily, but it's the truth.

No matter how good a team is, the players can't be expected to play mistake free hockey for 60 minutes. It just doesn't happen. We have given up fewer high danger scoring opportunities this season than at any point in recent memory, and I have no qualms with our overall team defense.

I don't think it's asking too much for a starting goaltender to make routine saves and the odd difficult stop when his team is holding a narrow lead.

Even when we were winning consistently with Freddy in net, he was still letting in bad goals regularly, but it was overshadowed by our offense. Now that the games are tightening up as we get deeper into the schedule, he's being exposed and it's costing us.

Good, say it like it is. The skaters are playing great overall, 1 small mistake and boom it's in the net. You can't play goalie, but you can reduce the scoring chances down from 4, to say 1 per game ? And give yourselves a better shot. There's not much else you can do as a skater, limit mistakes/turnovers. They've done a great job at it overall, but when the goalie can't stop a beach ball you have to play a perfect game to come up with the W.

We are also not going to win with the just under 4 GAA we have had over the last 7 games either. There is not a single team in the NHL right now who would be able to outscore the holes Andersen has been putting us in. But yes, let's blame our "poor offense" who has been dominating the other team's offense for most of these past few losses. Even while they are going through a colder stretch (which happens to literally every team in literally every season), we've still scored enough to be able to win more than 1 game in this past 7 game stretch because our defense has been good enough to make up for the fact that we only are getting 2.57 goals per game right now. Our goaltending has not.

Red Herring much?

Matthews better start scoring now. Hes been too bad for to long. 8 games of poor play needs to be fixed

I agree. Andersen is the root cause but Matthews needs to start putting some pucks in the net again or just sit til he’s better.

Same goes for Tavares but I have no faith he’ll ever be what he is again. He has looked bad for a long time now.
