Well it’s better then trading a really good asset like kadri at his best value for peanuts like dubie dubes did lol
Kadri was definitely not at his best value when he was traded... He just had his 3rd straight season of declining point totals and second straight season with a suspension in the playoffs.

The trade didn't work out for the Leafs, but I understand the motivation for that trade a lot more than this one.

I think Liljegren should've gotten some more games to try and prove that he's better than our other 3rd pairing options.

Holy shit. Someone on this board literally mentioned benning earlier today . Sharks is a great team for Liljegren to go to and grow his game

Whats the cap savings on this deal?
Yeah I saw someone mention that yesterday, or today. Good call.

You can pretty much bury that contract and put him on waivers to go to the AHL and you get 2 draft picks. A 3rd for this year. Not to shabby.

All the best to Lilly. He'll get plenty of ice there now but he's out west on a bad team.

Bridging and to trade him for some value if they needed to. Pretty simple.
This is better than the nothing we'd get from not arbitration signing him. It was a no brainer which is why I never got the angst, except if you thought we would have to pay to rid ourselves of him. That never happens, he has a short deal and someone would always take a chance on him. Again, it was no brainer to sign him. You could argue we should have some cases him more to start the year, but that's it.

exactly. Or waivers which we'd need to do soon anyway. Either way, nothing to complain about.

I was really hoping that we found a gem at 17 the year he dropped
Was really excited. But he really has shown nothing for me to get excited about

You really coudln't rely on him. Has a tendencies of coughing up the puck at oddest times in oddest areas

People need to read up on player elected arbitration. Tre’s hands were tied. There’s no way he was going to lose an asset for nothing by letting him go unqualified.

No GM is going to trade for a player with player elected arbitration because then you give up assets for a player you could potentially lose.

Tre signed Liljegren for cheaper than what he probably would have been awarded in arbitration anyways.

The cap space and picks are good given his value was rock bottom. That said, not great management of your asset. Good deal for SJ buying low on a kid with upside who simply wasn’t fitting with the new coach.

I hope he does well there.

At least he goes to a western team and isn't located in Canada.

Not to be rude and man does this betray my faith so I will have to ask for forgiveness later, but, if the Leafs were looking to run deeper I would have welcomed him being traded to one of the teams they might meet in the playoffs.

Three or four years ago I saw some development. He was exposed repeatedly in the playoffs though. Boston in particular constantly focused on his side of the ice when he was on, he just couldn't ever meet the physical demands. T.B did the same. You can't be a healthy playoff scratch every year, it was for just cause.

One of those guys who just didn't reach the threshold needed for hard hockey and at $3M a year it was untenable.

And there goes the last of our undersized, skilled defensemen who we drafted. I think Liljegren is better than he was given credit for by the coaches, both Keefe and Berube. But if he’s not their type there’s no point holding him and letting him go to waste.

Good luck to him.

the moment mccabe was signed Liljegren was extra body with too much cap space really

Leafs top4 is kinda set now at least for the next 3 to 4 yars means Lily is the odd man out and too expensive to be a bottom pair who doesn't PK or plays FU hockey

Horrible return
Should have traded him at last years trade deadline. A injured 30 year old and a late 3 and 6th for a young 25 year old right shot D man.

I question if it was the right time to move him, but if we weren't going to use him it doesn't make sense to keep him

If he somehow ended up to be a Norris candidate in the future and he is with Florida or Boston, then the Leafs would be f***ed.

SJ is the perfect spot for him.
