He was clearly #8 on Berube's depth chart and that's before Hakanpaa and we don't need a 3mil 8D. Nice to get a couple picks, Benning is whatever in this deal.

Showed promise two years ago, last year was an absolute disaster though and has made zero progress since then and in fact probably regressed overall.

It’s kinda crazy how he far he fell in the first round and now all those teams ahead of us were proven right.

Back in 2018 draft (wheb Dubas took over)

If anyone said that Durzi would be the best and most valuable player of

dermott
Lilijgren
Sandin
Durzi

It would have gotten you laughed out of these boards.

Lilijgren was a bust for us, hopefully he can work for SJS
I think it's a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B.

Wasn't as good as people thought and the Leafs being the absolute worst organization in the league at developing D. Dubas' knowledge of D is genuinely the worst of any GM I've ever seen.

Maybe LA knew what they were doing when they asked for Durzi over Lily.

True yeah we did dick him around in 2021 and then kept Holl in the expansion draft instead of letting him break onto the team in a top 4RHD spot

He looked good at times, but got injured often and had soft/timid play along with bad/costly reads in key playoff games (game 2 or 3 vs panthers he got burnt for a goal being too high and getting walked by)

He should be a bottom pairing D still and NHL regular like Sandin and Durzi (both those guys are prob top 4D at the moment or Durzi is for sure and Sandin is close).

Dermott missed the most despite a lot of hype and excitement in 2018 with his rookie year being strong and giving us false hopes lol. He is a 7/8D now

Lilly never showed a thing in his whole nhl career and was clearly outplayed by Timmins. Benning will now have the opportunity to play on the bottom pair, I like that's he a right shot and another heavy player. The draft picks are nice.

Good trade overall.

not bad, but I still wish we traded him at the draft, might've been able to squeeze a second out of someone, even if it was a year or two later

I don't see liljegren playing playoff hockey so its good to me, I thought he was at best worth a 4th
He's going to a really bad team, so I expect he gets decent minutes, some PP time, on the face of it probably will look okay and he might "prosper". That will be irrelevant to how I view this trade, because as you said, he isn't a playoff player. He was such a tire fire last playoffs, I've never seen such a lack of pose and low IQ plays, coupled with soft physicality. Wish him well, will never miss him.

I mean they do have drafted Drew Doughty and have won 2 cups for themselves with this core. I find it absolutely disgusting how butt cheeks of an organization Leafs is. Can’t develop forwards, can’t develop defensemen and certainly can’t develop goalies. Absolute joke of an organization!

Pretty much expected that they would trade him. This clears a lot of cap space and brings in some picks.

Benning is pretty much a depth defenseman likely replacing Myers. Hakanpaa should be ready to go very soon per him.

What's our cap situation now?
around 3 mil in cap space atm. Dewar and Hakanpaa I believe will be off LTIR by Friday so we'll have just under 500k I believe once they are back. Then we will most likely have to choose between Kampf or Jarnkrok because I don't think we can keep both.
