Interesting to see how this will work

X-Matthews-88
X-JT-Marner
Soup-X-X
Engvall-Spezza-Simmonds

Am I forgetting anyone?

I pretty much expect Kerfoot to get claimed by Seattle

Marner, Soup, Engvall are the only PK guys.

I think Brooks should be the 4c. Move engvall to third line.

Really why even bother just rewinding the tape on a team of proven losers.

The good thing about that lineup is that it will get Dubas fired. One or both of 65 and 47 cannot be in the lineup or Dubas is simply shuffling the deck chairs on the titanic.

A lot of overreactions for a deal less than 1 mil.

He averaged about 12 min a night last season, which is 4th line level. So the price is definitely right. If his health gives out it's easily buried. Adds to the teams expansion fodder too.

He didn't even play at a 4th line level outside of a brief stretch in February. Why continue to reward mediocrity?

This is great. He was injured and it showed in the back half. Before his injury he was a dream
How many guys can we give this excuse to every year? Hearing from some that our new PO warrior additions, Foligno and Simmonds, were injured so it's not their fault they were basically net negative players on the ice in one of the more embarrassing Leaf PO exits just doesn't fly with me. If they were that injured they shouldn't have been near the ice. You can't have it both ways, they were either healthy enough to play and very disappointing, or they should not have been suiting up at 50% value.

I think this is a good deal for Toronto. Prior to fracturing his hand and being out for 5 weeks. Simmonds had scored 5 goals in 6 games or something like that. He was showing passion and grit.

He is a player that can be moved up and down the lineup and play some PP in front of the net. I dont think its a bad deal at all.

If Dubas stops here at bringing back the vets from last season he has done well. There were really only 2 of the 4 that made any sense to bring back and he did that with Spezza and Simmonds. Bogo and Thornton shouldnt be brought back.

For those keep score at home, Leafs now have;

ROSTER SIZE: 16 players under contract for next year.

Bad deal. Need to move on from the idea of our bottom six being full of players of advanced age or chronically injured veterans. Hard to do given the greed of some players on the team but still

Well then we better get some young players into the system to take their place. The ones we have play perimeter games and are not very interested in standing in front of the net, taking the body and deterring cheap shots. That's on our GM and coach. You can't send out a Nick Robertson to police the Tom Wilsons of the league.

Who's on the projected roster?

Simmonds is far from useless. He makes the opposition think twice of taking liberties with our skilled players. He isnt going to go out and fight everyone but he will definitely be one of the not many on this team that will stick up for his teammates and hold his own.

We're always complaining that the Leafs are one of the softest, most non physical teams in the entire NHL and poorly equipped for playoff style hockey.

Well Simmonds in not one of those players so at least there is that, if that was the main objective behind this signing.

At his age and declining health over the years he should be seen more a depth 4th line piece and 12/13th forward that adds a little grit to the bottom of the roster.

Projected Leafs 4th line 2021-22

Wayne Simmonds -- Adam Brooks -- Jason Spezza
