Less than 24 hours after Friedge's tweet, Simmonds signs. Simmonds is OK only if more grit is coming.

I'd be OK with a 4th line of Simmonds Kuraly Spezza and Goodrow on our 3rd line. Upgrades on 65 and 47 would be nice but both cannot be in the lineup.

Hopefully we get playoff Simmonds hitting everything that moved game 2-4, or pre injury Simmonds.

But please for the love of god keep him off the powerplay.

My guess is they offered 7-800k for 1 year or 900 for 2. And he took door #2.

He's no Matt Martin. No idea why Martin is so good in NY and was meh here.

Good deal. Like that it's two years actually. He's not trying for a 1 year prove it again to cash in if he does well. Just wants to be part of the solution and a winner. Nothing to be mad at here. Worst case scenario it's a contract that's easily buried being under that like 1.1m threshold.

He hasn't been healthy in 6 years. He has no playoff goals in 24 games.

Can we not get guys who can play for league minimum ? Why not just save space for an Ahler

The way I see it. Rich Clune is done with the Marlies and Simmonds going to take his spot

Ride out his career in AHL and once in a while NHL tea

Usage and surrounding players. Martin plays with two guys that are annoying and gritty. Cizikas threw 112 hits this year, and Clutterbuck threw 191. Totally different energy when the guys beside you are willing to go through a wall too

Why do people care about the years on a contact that can be buried?

It’s irrelevant. The leafs could sign him for 8 years it wouldn’t make a difference. He can be waived with no cost. It’s about as consequential as marincin

More like he wants $1.8m and work close to home. He did his best being a pest vs Habs but when you are pretty much the only guy willing to get your hands dirty, doubt it motivates you to continue.

But why. He was useless for pretty much the whole season besides the first few games.

Highly doubt that the injury would have prevented him to be effective in the playoffs.

Its weird how all these physical players like Bogosian, Muzzin, Simmonds etc just stop hitting on the Leafs. If it’s our system, it needs changed.
