Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign RHD John Klingberg (1 year, $4.15M) | UPD 11/23: LTIR

Tonight you saw exactly why he was signed, he is not here to play defense, that is not his job, he is here to generate offense

2 assists that's why he's here he did his job.
He needs a better defensive partner than McCabe. If we had kept Schenn he could be with Rielly and Brodie could be with Klinberg.

Klingberg's transition on Willy's 2nd goal was actually very nice.

Cuts back, buys himself some space from the defender, finds Tavares on support on his backhand, and 2 passes later Willy is off to the races.

The guy's a deft puck mover, no doubt about it.

His dad just died and was sick last year.
That messes with you for a while

If he doesn’t turn it around don’t re sign him but his dad died less than a month ago

Ahh I didn’t know that, probably explains the poor play.

I still think he’s likely the odd man out if we have to move salary. Tre tried to trade him before to us haha.

McCabe is a disappointment to me.
He really looks like a 3rd pair guy in my eyes.

Poor Brodie lost his dad to cancer. That probably explains his terrible 6 months or so.
Its 2 game.. he had been great from trade deadline until florida series.. we cab just relax after 2 game and watch what will happen after 20-30 game...

The fact Holl is gone doesn't mean a need to find an other player to hate

Still think Treiliving’s biggest offseason blunder was signing Klingberg instead of Dumba or Soucy.

until we add another D-man, Klingberg should be playing sheltered minutes on the third pairing.

He is amazing offensively, but just as bad defensively.

Is the difference between Klingberg and Gustavsson $3.3M? I know that he's a RHD and dont generally think that we should have resigned him, but I think that we could have gotten better value and still signed another bottom pair RHD.

Gus has been on the ice for 5 goals for, 1 against so far this season. Two points... I had asked if we would have been better with Gus + Schenn vs. Klingberg previously.

Probably not. But I think Klingberg has a much better reputation and track record. This team does not need "bottom pairing RHD".

Klingberg has been pretty good so far. It's early in the season. I'd give him a little more time for him to settle in and see how it lands on the comparison meter.

I am not sure how most of you guys judge things but from a hockey standpoint at games live I have not talked to 1 hockey person who doesn't think Klinberg is washed .. Keefer is moving him to 3rd pair PP specialist with sheltered minutes and started doing so last game .. da talk at Scotia is Leafs already want to move him into LTIR if possible .. da guy can't skate fast which you can see in him losing puck races .. da guy can't pivot turn quick enough which you can see when he gets beat constantly on blue line .. and his mobility on his skates makes him an easy hit on da wall .. his net front is beyond brutal .. pretty much da only thing he does excellent is pass puck out of his zone .. even on PP1 he can't move properly on da line .. all i hear on here is his exit passes and transition play .. well folks that is not nearly enough to play in da NHL .. you need much much more

Was he damaged goods when they brought him in or is that from the pre-season injury?

Previous track record probably speaks volumes here. While Gustafsson's production might not be overly inferior in comparison to Klingberg, Gustafsson is actually a handful of months older with far fewer GP.

Klingberg isn't the problem right now. He is being overused and just doesn't fit on the PP1. His passes are too high risk and his shots are low percentage into a crowd and never make it to the net. I even noticed last game that Willy and Matthews were hesitant to even give him the puck on the PP.

Again - this is a coaching issue - not Klingberg's fault.
