Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign RHD John Klingberg (1 year, $4.15M) | UPD 11/23: LTIR

Tavares, eligable next summer to sign a SWEETHEART deal.
Idk what you think is a sweetheart deal, but as of now I think 5-6 million is what should be expected in terms of sweetheart, kopitar is a really nice comparable for Tavares who just signed for more whilst being older

Tavares isn’t like Spezza or Thornton who came here to play 4th line minutes, now there is the chance in 2 years tavares falls off to that level, but I’d hope he takes a pavelski type of decline, where he is still just as effective in the wing. If that turns out to be the case, I can’t see him taking league min

Does anybody know what happened to Klingberg?

I didn't see anything. I haven't read anything. If this guy goes on IR the Leafs won't have to waive a third pair grunt.

They'd be able to carry all of Timmins, Liljegren and Giordano to start the year.

That'd be awesome. Give Treliving time to figure out what to do. Their well thought out cap structure has put them into a pickle.

Don't forget Benoit still has to make his debut.

He didn't come here to sit in the press box. And I don't see Treliving waiving him. Benoit was brought in to replace somebody.

And it's definitely not gonna be Klingberg.

I had to laugh when I read this.
Keefe ... experimenting?!?! :laugh::laugh:

My friends, he'll be experimenting with pairings until the Leafs first round of golf next Spring.
True Leaf fan through and through I see.

I’d love to see Timmins get 2nd pairing and pp2 minutes. I think he’s shown enough to get a shot and it’s a shame he’s buried so deep in the lineup. Really tough for Liljegren too.

I don’t like bringing in Klingberg but we will see how it pans out.

Honestly, I’m just as uncertain with what Brodie and Klingberg will deliver as I am Timmins and Liljegren. Really hoping Brodie just ran out of gas in the playoffs, and it’s not the start of a rapid decline.

The difference is one set of question marks has $9.5 million in cap space tied up in it, and are UFA’s next season. In the interim at minimum we are looking at stifling the development of Timmins, Liljegren, and a good 3 LHD in Benoit.

Worst case we are eyeballing losing Timmins and/or Benoit to waivers so we can continue to rely on Giordano, Brodie and Klingberg for this season.

It makes me very uneasy to say the least. Hopefully Treliving can navigate through this without losing long term young potential to keep what will be gone this time next year.

Rough to start Game 1 but showed his offensive prowess from the point after the second period.

$5-6M is about right as long as he stays above 65 points a year. He's not worth $8-9M like some people on here have suggested, that's utter lunacy for a guy who's gonna make a living on the PP.

JT is home and settled down, is he really gonna play hardball for an extra 4 or 5 million total when he's made over $100M over his career??

He will do well offensively. More concerned about Getting Rielly a partner, Brodie has regressed a bunch in the last year.
Unfortunately Schenn priced himself out but he was the ideal guy for Rielly

Really good first impression
He's a different player than Barrie, it might work out much better. He's so much more of a passer
He fits with Willy really nicely on the powerplay.

I'm optimistic...

Of course Brodie...um, that's a different story.

Genuinely looked pretty good on the PP, and with no real time to build chemistry, that was definitely a positive sign

Honestly, I wasn’t upset. He’s human defensively but he moved the puck well and the results showed on the score sheet. Saw some heavy minutes and finished with two helpers and a plus one on the night. I’m already a little worried about endearing the fanbases criticism though. I smell another Gardiner situation where the odd blunder turns this fanbase against him while the positives keep him as an essential cog for the lineup. That was pretty exhausting to read before.

This guy is at least as good as Holl defensively, I would actually put him ahead of Holl in his own end - Klingbergs first pass and poise in the D zone surpasses anything Holl brings to the table, never mind his offence is miles ahead of Holl.

Whether or not he’s the right guy for the job long term is up for debate - but in a straight swap for Holl, we are much better off.

If the Leafs have a lethal PP for the season and he's a big part of that I think the fans will hopefully ease up on the defensive miscues. He's also only on a one-year deal and isn't pegged as an important future piece of the team / mainstay like Gardiner was.

He's not close to Holl in his own end. The bias against Holl within this fanbase is nuts. He's much better with the puck on his stick though.

I don't get why so many people were writing this guy off before he even played a game. He was fantastic tonight.
There was a lot of morons who cried about 'overpaying' him a measly 500K or whatever (on only a one-year deal no less) and thought that what he was on Anaheim, the worst team in the league by a country mile, was somehow indicative of his full capability / potential. Even prime Lidstrom would like garbage on that team.
