It takes some serious leg work to turn that late 1st into the disappearance of the Murray contract and the JUST AS GOOD AS A 1ST (trademark pending) 2nd rounder.
Haha! The "just as good as a 1st" 2nd rounder is really a staple around here.

Did you know MATTHEW KNIES was drafted with a 2nd round pick? What about NIKITA KUCHEROV or PATRICE BERGERON?

Dubas in reality got a better pick than the one he traded in the deal for Murray. At this point I'd argue that those 2nd round picks are EVEN BETTER than 1st round picks. Dubas found another "market inneficiency". ;)

But wait, there's more!!
What if I told you I can give you two late 2nd rounders for the price of your early 2nd rounder?? If you pull the trigger now, we'll throw in a conditional set of steak knives.

Apparently Shanny has been doing a lot of actual business instead of hockey ops, what the hell experience does Spezza have rnning any business ops, let's be honest. Obviously Shanny didn't have a ton prior to becoming Prez but he at least had roles with NHL and by now after several years does have business ops experience.
I'm a huge fan of Spez from the BJs series and his fight, but there's no way this organization can have yet another inexperienced person learn on the job.

The business part is his job lol

Which is why it's insane if he takes the fall for Dubas's inability to get the job done.

He also is most likely why the organization is run so well away from the hockey ops stuff because that's literally his job

In any case the longer this goes the more of a Shitshow it will be. It's already getting to be a joke

Seravelli says dubas hasnt accomplished anything. we shouldnt be scared for him to leave.

no shyt

Yeah I have no idea why mlse is panicking the only thing I can think of is that Matthews is trying to flex his muscles and keep Dubas. It's the only reason to keep him in all honesty ( although that's solely because if his inability to negotiate appropriate contracts)

I'm sorry about being so pointed. Like many people in the modern world, it's just that I'm really stressed right now. You of all people should be empathetic of that. This has felt very therapeutic to get out of my system. I'm sure you must understand that.

Glad I can be a punching bag for your frustrations :P , it was big of you to apologize, not many people are wired to do that, its an honorable gesture, thanks. :) , hope you have a good an happy day. Cheers!

Wrong. They are going to enjoy their long weekend. Like I said, no urgency, building is sold out for next year. Need to sign Matty? No problem, if we can lose with him, we can lose without him. Oh and did I mention the building is sold out ??
There’s a lot of truth in those words.

There's one thing about this assumed situation that doesn't reflect poorly on Dubas. Dubas has stated that it's between staying with the team or stepping away all together. With that element, it doesn't put MLSE in the position of a villain if they are actively interviewing replacements for Dubas because MLSE would not be standing in Dubas' way from seeking a new position elsewhere as Dubas states he will not be seeking another position in the league.
In my personal opinion, it seems as though Kyle Dubas is attempting to utilize psychological warfare against MLSE in order to try and persuade them into giving him the desired and extremely undeserving contract extension rumoured to be worth roughly $4 million annually and includes access to the company jet.

psychological warfare

psychological warfare, also called psywar, the use of propaganda against an enemy, supported by such military, economic, or political measures as may be required. Such propaganda is generally intended to demoralize the enemy, to break his will to fight or resist, and sometimes to render him favourably disposed to one’s position. Propaganda is also used to strengthen the resolve of allies or resistance fighters. The twisting of personality and the manipulation of beliefs in prisoners of war by brainwashing and related techniques can also be regarded as a form of psychological warfare.

Since all we are left with is our own speculations, I'm going to assume the following is true, in order to maintain faith in the organization, until we hear otherwise:

Dubie was turfed immediately and they started working the process to put a serious mgmt team in place. Dubie was put on the stand as part of a soft exit and to bide some time. That didn't go very well, and has complicated things, but nevertheless they will finish the process with a good end product and start working on a 5 year competitive vision, concurrently working trade talks, and then execute the first steps just in time.

All is right in the world.

OR he and his family are going through something that none of us is privy to and he's taking his time to make decision based on what's best for him and his family.

I know, it's absolutely crazy stuff, insane stuff that it just might not be psychological warfare against the Toronto Maple Leafs but you never know!

CORE PIECE: RETAIN
• Auston Matthews
• Morgan Rielly
• John Tavares

CORE PIECE: asshole contract
• Mitch Marner
trade him.

CORE PIECE - non-asshole contract

• William Nylander

JT = untradeable contract.
Marner can walk if not traded before July 1, 2023. This type of poison pill contract deserves a trade.

Sign AM34 if he wants to stay (not sure he does).
Sign WN88 if he wants to stay

Trade Marner before he walks.

One of the three young core have to go. I'm taking the one with the asshole contract.

Vancouver Canucks get: William Nylander, Timothy Liljegren
Toronto Maple Leafs get: J.T. Miller
Chicago Blackhawks get: Matt Murray, 2023 Canucks 4th, 2024 Leafs 4th

Why the Leafs do it: Because last year — especially the beginning of it — was so miserable for both Miller and the Canucks, it’s easy to forget what kind of player he is. A late-bloomer offensively, Miller has 299 points in 283 games with the Canucks since being traded there as a 26-year-old in 2019. He’s gotten outer-rim Selke consideration in past seasons and, with his heavy frame, plays a two-way, grinding style that lends itself well to the playoffs.

Yes, he’s just coming on to a seven-year contract that counts $8 million against the cap annually, but that’s not a massive concern for a squad that’s trying to win the Cup RIGHT NOW. Miller just turned 30, can play both wing and centre and soon enough Nylander will be making more than $8 million annually. Shedding Murray’s salary opens the door to bringing back Ilya Samsonov without too much trouble and you might still save a nickel or two against the cap.

Los Angeles Kings get: Mitch Marner
Toronto Maple Leafs get: Quinton Byfield, Sean Durzi, Jordan Spence, 2024 top-10 protected 1st

Why the Leafs do it: It’s kind of the new Sundin-for-Clark! Byfield is a six-foot-five centre still on his entry-level deal after being drafted second overall in 2020. The NHL results haven’t come just yet for the GTA guy, but it’s safe to assume better days are ahead — maybe as early as next year. Byfield can apprentice behind No. 1 C Auston Matthews and John Tavares can move permanently to wing.

Durzi is a 24-year-old, right-shot defenceman who was previously part of the Leafs organization until he was sent to L.A. in the 2019 deadline deal that landed Jake Muzzin. He’s just coming into his own and is under team control as an RFA in 2024. Spence is a smart — if not big — two-way defenceman whose done very well in the American Hockey League and is likely ready to step into the big time. Like Durzi, he shoots right.

This swap would save the Leafs an enormous amount of money against the cap, especially before Byfield is due a new contract in 2024-25. They’d also have a second 2024 first-rounder to leverage for more help between now and the trade deadline.
