Fowler isn't the answer long term. Especially not for JVR, nor adding anything on top of him.

If we don't get Trouba (or somehow Lindholm) then we shouldn't get anyone. Marincin/Carrick is fine as our 4D, and we have Zaitsev, Gardiner and Rielly as our top 3D.

And I wouldn't a whole lot on top of Gardiner besides some good prospects in order to get Trouba either.

Marincin is a bottom pair guy. He doesn't belong in the top 4

If I understand correctly, the Leafs have a LOT of money they COULD spend if they put Lupul, Robidas and Horton on LTIR. Right now, we're 1 mil under the cap, and that extra cap space would be good for ELC bonuses.... but we have the flexibility of adding up to 14 million in contracts if I understand the cap situation correctly.

Leafs dont need to fill EVERY hole this year. We're not contending for a SC.

With the expansion draft coming up next summer, I dont really want to add a defenceman. Right now, we have our choice to protect whoever ends up the best out of Carrick, Marincin, or Corrado.

If we add a dman, presumably we protect them, Rielly, and Gardiner, leaving the best of the rest unprotected. Id rather lose some depth forward guy like Holland or Leivo over Connor Carrick.

Finally some one who agrees. Marincin should be fighting with corrado for the 7/8 spot. I'd rather watch polak in top 4 then him. As for op. Trouba makes the most sense, but leafs are going to have to give to get. Gardiner is a great base for a swap but we need to sweeten the pot. Would jets fans be interested in valiev?? he is a up and coming lhd and I think most leaf fans are hesitant to toss his name out there.

I have a few different views about how I would like for the Leafs to do this.

3 way trade.
Anaheim gets JVR and Hunwick.
Winnipeg gets Fowler or Gardiner (If Gardiner Leafs get Fowler) and San Jose's 2nd round pick from Toronto
Leafs get Trouba, Stoner and Leafs 2nd round pick back from Anaheim.

-Ana sheds sallary and gets JVR
- Wpg gets a signed LHD and a second for Trouba
- Leafs get Trouba and improve their 2nd round pick by 15 spots

Or JVR@50% and Kapanen for Fowler Stoner and Ritchie

More realistic then Trouba, Cam Fowler would be a solid add for the Leafs.

So if he wants to play in states near home its either Detroit or Columbus correct? Seth Jones is the number 1 there. I do not think jets and Columbus are good trading partners, because jets need a top for lhd right now and Columbus is not going to give anymore top picks or assets because the have Jones as 1st pairing rhd . Now with Detroit the only lhd jets would be interested in would be dekeyser , another local boy. I do not see Detroit trading him plus adding to him to get trouba. Toronto is close to Detroit about 4 hours and of the 3 teams I would say have the parts to get a deal done. If the kid flat out refuses to play in Canada different story, but if he is okay with Canada Toronto is still not far from home and he will get his first pairing minutes on the right side with Mo .

Correct heard like within 200 miles of Detroit, So Columbus, Detroit or possibly Pittsburgh with Toronto excluded. Just saying things from family member's whom are close to the Trouba family my Sister is really close to Trouba's Mom they live within the same development and my Nephew runs a bar that Trouba frequents so they talk quite a bit take it with a grain of salt. But it sounds like he only wants to play in the States and not Canada period.

Toronto's a 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive.

It's long, but again it's doable.

That's his rfa choice, if that is true. I just do not see those teams having the right assets to acquire him at this time. Chevy is a patient gm and will do what's best for him and the jets. I believe he is going to take the same approach as yzerman did with drouin, which makes you ask the question, if these American teams do not or will not part with the assets to acquire him and say Toronto which is still not to far from home is and is willing to pay him and give him his 1st pairing spot with Mo. How long will continue his hold out to play in Canada. I mean the season has already begun and I would have to think his chopping at the bit to get back and play some meaningful games.

Yeah it's a bit of a patience required mode right now. We have some good pieces but we need time to let them show their short-term worth.

Toronto is within driving distance of Detroit. Unless he's really obsessed with being in the US, I don't think that's too much of a hardship.

Yup Toronto is the closest Canadian city to Detroit, He might've to take a deal there for say 4 years until he's a UFA and then sign with any American team he so chooses if Toronto offers the best deal and they do have the pieces. Just doesn't look like he would commit there long term. But strange things to happen and he's still closer to home if he needs to get home for an emergency or something like that.

Gotcha. Same source when you said he wants 6M on a long term deal?

My brother, who has a girlfriend, who has a cousin that did time with somebody close to Kevin Durant knew he was going sign with the Warriors before the rest of us. I totally get this.

Heard that he does want the Seth Jones and Ristolainen deal 6 years at $5.4 million pretty sure he's worth that.

So you think Toronto would give up considerable assets to obtain Trouba, only for him to dip out? You think Toronto would give up assets and sign Trouba up until his first year of eligibility for UFA status? If Trouba wants to play in the NHL he has NO leverage. None. Zip. Nothing. If Trouba wants to play in a lesser league or sell cars or bag groceries, he can totally screw the Jets over.
