Yeah it's a bit of a patience required mode right now. We have some good pieces but we need time to let them show their short-term worth.

I get what you guys are saying, I think half of leaf nation split right now. We have all seen Gardiner enough to know that he is a good top 4 damn. I think the issue is we have needed a top 3rhd for a long time now and it seems one is available and if he is willing to play in Canada we have some pieces .. now jets need a lhd under contract that is top 4, Gardiner fits that bill. Leafs need top rhd and have the cap and a number 1 rhd spot open which trouba desires both. I think the leafs add to Gardiner, but I think by next year we could replace Gardiner internally, ( Dermott, nielsen, valiev..etc) We all know we do not have any top rhd prospects as of now and even if zietsev pans put we still need another one. I know we are not contending for a cup this year but leafs would be so much further ahead of the game if we landed trouba then we would having Gardiner because of lack on right hand side.

Outside of Buffalo maybe, Buffalo is only 90 miles from Toronto where Detroit is like 230 miles or so used to spend tons of time in Toronto when i lived in the Detroit area growing up really love Toronto and it's people.

Buffalo...and arguable for Ottawa.

I meant relative to Detroit. Toronto is closer to Detroit than all other surrounding cities (Chicago, Columbus, Buffalo, Pittsburgh)

So you think Toronto would give up considerable assets to obtain Trouba, only for him to dip out? You think Toronto would give up assets and sign Trouba up until his first year of eligibility for UFA status? If Trouba wants to play in the NHL he has NO leverage. None. Zip. Nothing. If Trouba wants to play in a lesser league or sell cars or bag grocieries, he can totally screw the Jets over.

Bottom line Trouba's first choice is to play for his hometown Detroit Red Wings. That's why he's training there while this sort it'sself out that's where he wants to be and more then likely will only sign long term with Detroit Maybe with Boston or the Rangers he might commit long term but doubt he does in Toronto.

Heard that he does want the Seth Jones and Ristolainen deal 6 years at $5.4 million pretty sure he's worth that.

Have you heard what he plans to do come Dec 1st if he's not traded? Is he willing to sit out the year and lose a year of salary and extend his RFA by a year

I get the Detroit thing, but I'm sure every player drafted wants to play for hometown or favorite team growing up. But if its home he wants, why consider Boston or rangers long term? that makes no sense. If he is willing to play long term in big markets then why not Toronto?? I mean if comparing your experience in one city compared to the whole country just seems foolish to me.

You are all over this place. First you say you have insider info from family that he only wants to be in Detroit. Then you say maybe Columbus and Pittsburgh because they are close but not Toronto even though it's roughly the same distance. Now out of nowhere you say maybe Boston or New York.

So........ Boston, Columbus, Pittsburgh, New York and I think you even mentioned Buffalo are all possibilities. Can you get his phone number? I would rather ask him myself.

I'm beginning to get the impression that the real answer is "he's totally going to play for Detroit, but outright saying that would cause a loss of credibility so let's just say 'near Detroit and not in Canada' instead."

Trouba would be very happy to come to Toronto, not sure they would meet his contract price though.

So far as i know and what's being reported, Is the interest is from the Rangers, Bruins, Red Wings and Coyotes so far no mention of any Canadian teams though i'm sure there's a few out there like the Leafs. We shall see what he does. Dreger also seems to think that Colorado Dallas and Tampa also could've interest in Trouba as well.

Dan Girardi for Nathan Horton, Ottawa's 2nd in 2017 and SJS 3rd in 2018.

Gives TML a serviceable RHD and a great locker room vet for the kids.

Not if they expect him to sign the Rielly deal, Doubt that would happen he will at least seek the Seth Jones Ristolainen deal and more then likely get it.

The only feasible way you can pay Trouba more then Rielly is if you were to give him more term therefore buying up more UFA years. Trade for his rights, sign him for 8 years at 6-6.25M range.

JVR for Fowler?? (I'm a fan of neither team)

Only if JVR has retention because we need to lower our cap not increase it any.

JVR (50%) for Fowler and Stoner

Obviously Ducks would do it but Maple Leafs wouldn't they would want a positive add from the Ducks.

Stoner + Fowler + 1st

for

JVR + something

We are not trading a 1st round pick goes against out franchise history of not drafting in a round 1 of a year.

I have a few different views about how I would like for the Leafs to do this.

3 way trade.
Anaheim gets JVR and Hunwick.
Winnipeg gets Fowler or Gardiner (If Gardiner Leafs get Fowler) and San Jose's 2nd round pick from Toronto
Leafs get Trouba, Stoner and Leafs 2nd round pick back from Anaheim.

-Ana sheds sallary and gets JVR
- Wpg gets a signed LHD and a second for Trouba
- Leafs get Trouba and improve their 2nd round pick by 15 spots

Or JVR@50% and Kapanen for Fowler Stoner and Ritchie

We don't want any defenseman even if we trade away Fowler and Stoner

Ducks are not trading Ritchie

Are we talking with or without traffic. Getting to downtown Toronto before a game is akin to waiting in line at a black Friday sale. Buffalo might be closer in terms of time spent driving.

(I kid, I kid, I'm just being difficult)

However, though, if we are talking about being close to home, Chicago or Columbus make more sense because you don't have to cross borders all the time.

Yup exactly, Something around a sign and trade where the trading team gets Trouba for the 8th year and Cheveldayoff gets a better package for Trouba that's definitely what i could see unfolding here more then likely.

This makes absolutely zero sense for the Leafs, In what world would Lou ever retain half of JVR's salary plus take on a dump of a salary as Stoner's. Even with JVR full salary Anaheim is still shedding around $3 million here way more then enough to afford decent deals to both Rakell and Lindholm.

As a Leaf fan, could we just wait 20/30 games before we start trading away a JVR or equivalent type package. Our rebuild is coming along well. Let's see what we have and then determine what we need and how best to acquire it.

I, respectfully, very much disagree with this. More time is definitely needed to see what exactly we need. There are still many questions about the pieces that we have and without those answers, we won't be able to make the right moves.

- Is Rielly a #1 or a #2?
- Is Gardiner a #3 or a #4?
- Where (if at all) in the top 4 does Zaitsev fit?
- Can/Will Carrick crack the top 4?
