This franchise is in rough shape. Do we trust Brad Treliving with a retool? The guy that traded Tkachuk for Huberdeau?
that is an unfair and uninformed comment. He was regarded as a genius for rescuing the Flames at the time, the rug was pulled out from under his feet with Gaudreau leaving in the last hour and Tkachuk announcing he was leaving. What he pulled off was remarkable (Huberdeau, Weegar and I believe a first) was lauded here in Calgary.

I mean we should have some combination that equals top 3 lines eating 50+ minutes a night right? Bert and Domi don’t suck this hard. They just don’t. At least try Holmberg as 3C to see if that helps?

Revisit Willy as a C?

Domi sucks. Simple as that. I expected him to. But I expected more out of Bert

I watched that shorty for the 5th time, it's is just painful. Yes Marner touched it last. Klingberg throws it back to Matthews who has in front of him 2 Sabres around their own blueline and all kinds of open ice to his left. On his right 7 ft away is 16 who is slowly gliding 6ft towards his own blueline, 2' outside is the line is Rage Thompson, he of the 9' reach, do the math. Thompson was on 16 by the time that puck hit his blade. All he could do is try to give it back to 34, who on his left still had the whole zone to himself.

Maybe 16 called for the pass, maybe he didn't, but Matthews with the huge out to his left and up ice really should have known better. Sure, sure I know decisions have to be made in a split second, I get that, it's a game I played, admittedly a long time ago, but certain things in the game dont change. The truth here is that Mitch was involved but the blame wasn't his.

I hate to say this, but I think by seasons end there will be 35 of these threads at a minimum.

On the bright side, we should all be very pleased to know that we have the highest paid player in the entire league and all the hat tricks, all the 60 goal seasons, all the Maple Leafs team scoring records sadly will never bring Stanley back home.

That contract is going to probably, I did say probably, going to cost the Leafs Knies.

It will more than likely cost us one of Filthy Billy or Mitch. It's possible that they both just might go elsewhere because they just don't want to be a part of what's going on here, a la ROR.

The good news is, "if the GM doesn't panic," is that instead of picks in the bottom third of the round we have picks mid round instead.

Deja Vu all over again

Ya didn’t want to see him back. He’s not going anywhere this season I don’t think, they will get going enough to waltz in to playoffs here. Early exit again would seal his fate.

Domi doesn’t suck this hard. He belongs in the top 9 of a decent nhl team. Like even if that’s 9th.. but he’s not useless.

Bertuzzi and Domi COULD make reasonable impacts in the right role.

Klingberg is absolutely hopeless. He has noodles for brains. Reaves is all talk, no action, and skates in cement. His presence on the ice is a shift after shift liability.
I’m interested in domi in the middle with bertuzzi and jarnkrok Robertson with Willy knies with marner and holmberg in reeves spot n that’s just the forward re construction like sheesh

I think November could turn into a trainwreck with the Sweden trip and making the playoffs could end up being a much greater challenge than we first thought.

Don't think Domi's dream to be a Leaf is going to work out. He was too hyped up going into it to come in and just do his job. His IQ level has not been impressive.

The team appears to have zero strengths outside of the Big 4 going into hero mode and even that isn't enough.
Well, the big issue is all of free agents players that we signed don't fit our system or aren't what we needed and it's really exposing the team.

Bert = Best at dumping and retrieving the puck, if he doesn't get the puck back after doing that, it's one and done his other line mates in the top 6 aren't going to grind it out and get the puck.. While our system is to hold onto the puck as much as we can and make a play.

Domi = Low hockey IQ and has issues with possession. Every time he tries to hold on to it and make a play, he losses it and turns it over.

Reaves = Just a useless player for us at this point, doesn't provide anything to the team, doesn't have a strength whatsoever for us

Klingberg = Pure offence dman and is abysmal in his own end, while I understood the logic of needed to have a better transition from the back end, we sacrificed our own end play for it, we needed a quality 2 way d-man, not a 1 dimensional player

Our 3rd line with Kampf and Domi on it is no where it needs to be, and our 4th/5th/6th d-man right now are hurting mightily.

I've been a fan my whole life. At nearly 40 years old, this is the first season that I've voluntarily skipped watching games. Even during some really dark years, I made a point to watch. There's something rotten with this group that has me feeling jaded.
Likewise. The game against the Bruins told me everything I needed to know about this team. I have zero respect for them after they failed to respond to the Marchand hit. I may be wrong, time will tell, but I have no expectations that this season will be any better than any of the previous ones with this core. It's maddening how little passion and competitiveness they display.

The core 4 has been playing f***ing amazing, 28 goals between the 4 of them. So of course, now that they are all finally playing fantastic, and earning their money, the rest of the team is f***ing GARBAGE surrounding them.

A bottom 6 player hasnt scored a goal since the NASHVILLE game. And it was Gio.

I swear we truly are cursed.

This bottom 6 needs to get their fkn shit together. Theres no bad teams in our division anymore. Points are at a premium more than ever in the entire 34/16 era.

All the newcomers have been garbage... Brodie has been extra putrid this season.

You join a new team, everyone is trying their hardest, so you work as hard as you can yourself.
You come here, nobody gives a f***, why would you?

We couldn't fill our a decent roster with guys on their last contacts. Now that Matthews has his new deal, and soon billy, well be filling in the team with AHL.crud.

The greed of these players is staggering. We should have blown it up. Now we're in for long term pain.

Logic has no place here. Panic now, celebrate later. This team will be fine. The secondary scoring will come, and Treliving will acquire at least two more defensemen during the season.

Why are you so sure about this? Reminder: they needed a late 3rd period comeback in both of the first two games. It could easily be a 3-6-2 record right now. I don't share your optimism. This team looks bad defensively and both goaltenders now look even worse.

Let's chat at the halfway point

Thinking this year might be a write off. There's no way they're a serious threat to win the cup. Way to many issues. Maybe just sell off at the deadline, load up on some assets and cap space, and figure out what the f*** you're doing in the summer to completely retool the defence and bottom 6.

We are watching morons be morons.

Shanahan hired Treliving. Treliving kept Keefe and brought in all those cruddy players. Over ten percent of the season has passed and the Leafs aren't even in a playoffs position.

For a team that is supposed to be a contender.

The worst thing is their lack of pride in losing. They look as apathetic playing as fans have become watching. I know I've stopped caring about the actual on ice results.

Just marveling at how horribly bad everything has turned out.

Another bottom six that can't score. Another defense that can't defend. Another goaltending duo letting in over three goals a night.

Another shitty start to the season.

This is what happens when your president of hockey opeations is a moron. He hires other morons to work for him. So morons like me can watch them do moron things together.

A bunch of morons moroning the place up.

Sell off who exactly? They have one guy that's worth anything without a NMC (Nylander) and even he has a limited no trade clause. For better or worse, they've locked in for a few years with this core. Tree Living had 3 days between June 28 and July 1 to use the only leverage we had. My first calls would have been to the unsigned players' agents to tell them know my next 31 calls are to every other GM in the league.

Against all logic and reason, we're going to get through this adversity, make the PO and go deeper than we have in decades. It will take some time but by January we will start to turn this around.

There - I've put it out into the universe, universe do your thing

Watched The Big Short (again) today (I refuse to admit it's tomorrow because I'm still hoping to fall back asleep). Is your Avatar the actor that plays Vinnie in that movie?

Keefe is the special kid with a bicycle helmet driving a Ferrari, on paper it's just an extra layer of protection, but you know something is wrong with this one

Hope someone like bertuzzi looks a bit better by the deadline and we can get a first haha. He had a shit year last year too but was still able to grab a first. Other than that not much else. I love Willy, been a huge fan of him since we drafted him, and have loved him every step of the way and have spent so much time defending him on this board, but you really gotta look into if it's still worth just running it back. I know he makes the team better, but sometimes you need a different look and to make people uncomfortable. I would gladly launch Mitch before Willy any day, but that's not really an option.

Yeah it is. That's Jeremy strong. My avatar is him playing Kendall Roy in succession (great show)
