I watched that shorty for the 5th time, it's is just painful. Yes Marner touched it last. Klingberg throws it back to Matthews who has in front of him 2 Sabres around their own blueline and all kinds of open ice to his left. On his right 7 ft away is 16 who is slowly gliding 6ft towards his own blueline, 2' outside is the line is Rage Thompson, he of the 9' reach, do the math. Thompson was on 16 by the time that puck hit his blade. All he could do is try to give it back to 34, who on his left still had the whole zone to himself.
Maybe 16 called for the pass, maybe he didn't, but Matthews with the huge out to his left and up ice really should have known better. Sure, sure I know decisions have to be made in a split second, I get that, it's a game I played, admittedly a long time ago, but certain things in the game dont change. The truth here is that Mitch was involved but the blame wasn't his.
I hate to say this, but I think by seasons end there will be 35 of these threads at a minimum.
On the bright side, we should all be very pleased to know that we have the highest paid player in the entire league and all the hat tricks, all the 60 goal seasons, all the Maple Leafs team scoring records sadly will never bring Stanley back home.
That contract is going to probably, I did say probably, going to cost the Leafs Knies.
It will more than likely cost us one of Filthy Billy or Mitch. It's possible that they both just might go elsewhere because they just don't want to be a part of what's going on here, a la ROR.
The good news is, "if the GM doesn't panic," is that instead of picks in the bottom third of the round we have picks mid round instead.
Deja Vu all over again
