Dubas really screwed this team up, he overpaid matthews and marner to start. He gave taveras that minstoucity contract and he should have traded Reilly. If your highest paid d man can’t play and be effective on the power play you won’t be winning any cups. Because of reilly’s inept pp prowess, klingberg was brought in. This team is so poorly constructed treliving tried his best to fill holes but maybe buying name brand (domi klingberg etc) wasn’t the way to go and maybe no name (van reimsdyke and lucic) was a better option. Would have saved money on the cap to
I like the fact Brad only handed out 1 year deals to the guys being paid a bit. I think we are heading towards to complete reboot, which is warmly accepted by myself.

How this team is set up contract-wise is absolutely shocking. I can't understand for the love of me how someone thought this was the right way to go about things.

For all we know it could have been Shanahan who wanted Keefe back.

It probably was Shanahan.

Treliving's quotes in media suggest it was his call to make. But I suppose that could all be fabricated to give the impression Shanahan isn't the one actually pulling the strings. All I know is that if they have to fire Keefe now they may as well fire Shanahan at the same time.

Coming out to a bad enough start they have to can Keefe was not what the board was hoping for when Dubas was replaced by Treliving.

That's on Shanahan.

So, we accept 57, 58, 59.

Exactly and this is why I laugh when I see the usual Dubasite suspects coming in here and shitting on Treliving after the last 2 losses. The fact that they don’t see what you said and realize the mess Dubas made here is astonishing. lol.
Treliving = Domi.
Holmberg is on Marlies, why? Answer, Domi.

Going to have to. I've wanted a reboot since we lost the Columbus series. That's years and years ago. We keep trying the same thing over and over and over with the setup.

The absolute simple fact of the matter, you can't or won't get to the Cup final with 4 of your forwards making half of the cap. We can do whatever we want with the support cast, but we're just going round in circles.

We won't get to a final with Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander all on our roster. That's the be all and end all.

The cascading effect that having these 4 contracts have, goes in many directions, and there are different issues each and every year. But it is because of these 4 contracts. Imo.

The problem might be that Shanny is the guy who thinks this will work. He's said it many times, "we will win with this core". I just don't know if he meant SC or a game in round #2.

Either way, Dubas left Tre to pick up the pieces and Tre may have added to the mess this summer but it is way too early to shit on Tre and this group. Dubas inherited a gold mine and was given 5 years and more if he did not pull a PP on Shanny. Tre deserves more than a couple of games after inheriting what he did.

What he inherited was a great situation. A top tier team, all the important pieces on contract, ELC options, no anchors, and enough cap space and open secondary spots to put his mark on the team. Everybody deserves more than a couple games, but if Treliving screwed this up, it's on Treliving, and so far, all of his offseason moves look underwhelming.

Minten has got to go. He looks like a junior player out there and kills the offense. We have enough skilled players to have 3 lines that can provide offense. Figure it out. 2 goals in 2 games is a joke.

I hate to dump on the kid but Minten is killing the team right now. He looks terrible , especially on the forecheck and around the net. Should have kept Lafferty.

Absolutely. Brad's got 3 years or so before anything can be attributed to him. I don't blame him one bit for the mess he walked into. We've already missed a golden opportunity with this group. We have to start planning for the next group.

Remember the feeling the summer after the Leafs lost to the Caps? How it ended up this way is a crime.

A lot of people are wondering when we will see Knies on one of the top 2 lines and that might be an improvment. I'd like to see him play in the AHL. NOT because he is awful, not at all, but they aren't giving him much ice time.
I want him to get a good 20-30 games in the AHL, 18-20 minutes per game. Top PP unit, maybe even some penalty killing. Put him in every situation and see if he can become 'the guy' down there. If he excels, bring him back up.

It’s not about starting on time or lack of effort. The problem is this team‘s core player don’t dictate the outcome of games as much as they should, especially when other teams are focussed. They typically have slow starts to the season and always go out with a whimper in the playoffs.

When they get into the shinny part of the season they’ll be better. They’ll have to be careful because there are two or three teams that have missed the playoffs in the past that are itching to get in and Tampa, Florida and Boston are not going give them a spot.

What really boggles my mind, that after 5 years of severely underachieving in the playoffs, dubas was handed a contract extension from shanahan AND a contract from Pittsburgh new ownership. Like have you not seen the signings and trades he’s done!! I guess in the NHL you get rewarded for ineptitude…

Yes, they did, which is why they wanted to keep/acquire that good GM. Because actual hockey people evaluate GMs based on more than just the playoff outcome their team had with zero context.

Absolutely but I'm not ready to panic after 4 games. Tre still has work to do because that D is not winning anything in the playoffs.

A rematch of with the Panthers, a time to show things are different, and nobody showed up, not one guy....not one coach....ridiculed again and nobody cares. The room has got to be a disaster.
The Sens and Sabres will eat us alive.
Already, Reaves is sick of these guys, WN gets run, and what happens? Domi slows down to the point he is on the bench, Bertuzzi goes for piss and never comes back, not a face wash, a slash, a cross check, a running of their players, nothing, nada, zippo.
Our D is the worst in the NHL.
The trainers are happy, no blood or sweat to get out of the unis.
