Ya all these new leaf tough guys took exactly 3 games to turn into marshmallowsNobody on this team going to do anything about Nylander getting hit from behind?
Ok.
We should be concerned already, it’s not like this is an uncharacteristic slow start. This is the same crap we have seen for at least the last 5 years so basically nothing has changed except the names of a few peripheral playersRealistically, at least 25-30 games. Hell, look at Florida last season. It took them until January to come together.
To late. He did nothing when Willy got smoked from behindAs long as Coach Keefe doesn't neuter him like I think he's did with our other tough boys in the past.
The old GM signed Tavares (one of the best UFAs in the cap era - currently 7 points in 4 games), which was a good signing that helped elevate this team to a perennial top tier team. The old GM signed Tavares, which ultimately destroyed this teams cap flexibility and resulted in us losing Hyman and Kadri
The old GM got bent over by RFAs which added to our cap problems
We've had enough money for good depth every year, and that's without the ELC advantages Treliving has.His contracts are the reason why current management has no flexibility and cannot add the proper depth pieces.
We have pieces on the farm with the potential to be more than bottom six forwards, but an effective bottom six is what we need anyway. What we have on the farm are bottom 6 forwards, and they won't add much IMO.
LOL.The old GM signed Tavares (one of the best UFAs in the cap era - currently 7 points in 4 games), which was a good signing that helped elevate this team to a perennial top tier team.
The old GM re-signed all of our top RFAs to fair contracts consistent with the history of post-ELC contracts.
The departures of Hyman and Kadri were not about cap space, and what both brought to our team was pretty quickly and easily replaced.
The only thing that caused cap difficulties was an unexpected, once-in-a-century global pandemic that caused an unprecedented multi-year stagnation of the cap that caused cap difficulties for 90% of the league and pretty much every competitive team.
And our past GM was really good at maneuvering that leaguewide cap situation and getting efficient depth despite very little ELC depth options left for him from the previous regime/rebuild.
The new GM hasn't done anything except double down on what the old GM was doing - and do it worse.
We've had enough money for good depth every year, and that's without the ELC advantages Treliving has.
Treliving had plenty of money and flexibility to add depth pieces. It's not Dubas' fault he spent it all on overpaid mediocre depth that's not playing well right now.
We have pieces on the farm with the potential to be more than bottom six forwards, but an effective bottom six is what we need anyway.
And were is the rust from the other teamsThought they looked alright. Alot of rust to shakeoff still.
Great breakdown from Corrado here on the Panthers 1st goal last night.
We could have afforded 5.5m. The problem was signing him until he was 36; especially with his recent injuries. And Bunting immediately replaced Hyman for much cheaper.Hyman literally left because Edmonton offered him 5.5 and we couldn't afford to
No he wasn't. We literally had that setup originally, and the forward we got in return was only 1m less. He was traded because after a long history of discipline issues, he got suspended for two consecutive playoffs and couldn't be trusted.Kadri was literally traded because our 2C was making 11M and we couldn't afford a 4.5M 3C.
For the record, we needed blueliners because Lou completely abandoned the position outside of creating a massive anchor in Zaitsev, Hainsey was in his late 30s, and Gardiner broke down with an injury that would essentially end his career. Not because we signed our top forwards. Also because our dumbass old GM allocated half the cap to forwards and we desperately needed blueliners
Lol. You can't seriously believe that.and then he got destroyed by Sakic in the Barrie and Kerfoot trade, literally might be a top 5 worst trade in Leafs history.
That's not true. NMCs are pretty common among players of that caliber, 5 and 6 year deals are common in top tier post-ELC contracts, and Matthews and Marner received the 6th and 10th most valuable post-ELC contracts in the cap era, term considered, as the (at worst) 5th and 6th best young players in the cap era through time of signing. There's nothing abnormal or bad about their contracts. The only thing abnormal and bad is how this fanbase treated them for getting fair contracts while they earned them and carried the team.no RFA in NHL history had gotten that much money, on that short term, with a full NMC.
It was insinuated by the Athletic cronies that Shanahan was involved. Maybe he just didn’t want Dubas trading one of the core without permission, which certainly makes sense.Interesting thought.
So you believe Shanny is and or was the one calling all the shots
Great breakdown from Corrado here on the Panthers 1st goal last night.
Being far too patient with the Keefe experiment IMOI don't recall too many Leafs "experiments" having gone particularly well over the past number of years. They have no patience to see any idea through.
That was a darned good shot. There were mistakes there but god damn samsonov with a sieve goal
