Bertuzzi has been complete garbage so far, he needs to get his head out of his ass. Domi has been shit too, but we're not expecting him to be a top line guy, Bert looks straight up awful out there. Has he made a single play this season ? Looks like just some regular random guy.

0 goals even strength, that's a joke.

Sammy needs to make a one of those saves.

Matthews looked great as usual, but the depth guys really need to start making something happen. A so called "revenge game" and they play like that ?

Minten needs to go down, not good enough on the faceoffs and just not good enough for the NHL right now. Let him develop a bit more, we need a real impact 3rd line center, someone hard to play against, who can PK and defend at a high level. Minten looks like well, a rookie.

The lines need to be currently:

Knies Matthews Nylander
Bertuzzi Domi Marner
Robertson Tavares Jarnkrok
Gregor Kampf Reaves

Then I would try and sign Kane:

Knies Matthews Kane
Bertuzzi Tavares Marner
Jarnkrok Domi Nylander

As we should have expected the bottom 6 can't be relied on for scoring, so that pretty much kills any deep playoff run hopes right there unless they can get some help.

And on that point, Minten should be sent back to junior and Treliving needs to go out and find a veteran 3C to take his place. Preferably one that can kill PKs and chip in offensively. Still need a top 4 RD too. Not sure how Tre pulls any of that off, but that's on him now.

Otherwise, it was another typical early season effort by this team. They is enough talent here that we know they will be better so no reason to panic, it's just that sinking feeling when you see the same patterns repeat themselves every year, and every year ends up with the same disappointing result.

If Bertuzzi is truly injured and needs a few days off, I'll hold off judgement for a bit. I mean, sure, we've seen nothing of value of him, but maybe after healing up he'll be useful?

Agree Minten needs to go down.

Domi hasn't been very good at any aspect of the game, and looks completely lost on our team.

Samsonov apparently was screened on the first two goals... but you've just got to make a save.

No 5v5 goals... again. 7 goals so far this season 5 v 5. That ranks us 13th in the league. 7 goals with a man advantage... whether that is 6v5 5v4 or 4v3. That's not how you win.

On the bright side, I thought McCabe played his best game, clearly better suited to play with Liljegren than Klingberg. Knies looked pretty good.

Reaves... I mean the deterrent. Wasn't a deterrent. The response when something happens... there was no response. If you are going to have a below replacement level player on your bottom line, who isn't very good at hockey, but is there for toughness, he needs to be tough when you need it. The clear message tonight, was that he won't always do something. Just getting in tough guy v tough guy scraps does nothing... I mean it's entertainment, but it does nothing to help protect our players, or intimidate the other team. The cap isn't much, but for the shape we are in, McCann could better what he does at hockey for $450k less... which for us is kind of important.

Marner scored, but he really hasn't looked like the Marner we've grown accustomed to. I don't know what the story is there.

Matty and Nylander were good. Tavares was just ok. Gregor and Jarnkrok had decent games.

Kampf... I mean buddy, what is going on? 27% in the dot? Hey, I didn't mind the signing, the term, or the dollars.... but clearly this isn't working for him right now... probably the wrong linemates for him.

Too early to really panic... at least for me, some of the rest of you can... but there are a lot of things to work on here. So far most of Treliving's signings haven't panned out. It's been kind of ugly, even the wins.

Good: Matthews Giordano McCabe Nylander

Average: Knies Brodie Tavares Samsonov Liljgren Rielly

Bad: Samsonov Kampf Marner Minten

Pathetic: Klingburg Domi Reaves

I was wondering who the slug who was slow getting off the ice…of course it was Domi. Wtf does this guy do that has been good?

There were a few plays where it looked like Matthews was going to go vintage 90s Jagr, drive wide and then cut in for a crash the net opportunity, which looks really great and would make the difference between a 3-1 EN loss on the road and maybe a springboard for a gross road win.

The defense feels very cheap and flimsy. Didn't like Rielly and Klingberg together on the 6 on 4 with Rielly pulling the trigger more than anyone else out there. Seeing too much of Giordano.

Didn't like Bertuzzi and Domi. Really seeing why Domi always seems to wear out his welcome. So far he's like Kerfoot without the defense, completely devoid of anything out there.

Completely premature comment, but if the chemistry and mix of this group doesn't gel for whatever reason, the roster is positioned really well for a quick sell off and turnaround with so many UFAs... and we have a first rounder.

So if no Bertuzzi next game McMann Robertson or Holmberg get a call up? Believe we could send Benoit down and call up a forward to come in for Bert.

I agree. Would we be any worse off trading Klingberg Domi Bertuzzi Reaves and replacing them with Timmins Robertson McMann and Clifford and using the cap savings to bring in a good #2-3 defensive defenceman?

We like to joke about the Oilers being a PP driven team...

Pot > Kettle > Black

I've heard a few analysts say now, no early PP to get their guys going... What? f*** off. If we cannot generate offence 5-on-5 there is kinda no point to this team.

Anyway, team still needs time to gel and this road trip should provide that opportunity, but so far, this is very uninspiring.

Somewhere Babcock is muttering something about starting on time... which they failed to do yet again imo, in a somewhat more than nothing game. Shocker.

Some small positives...

PP is very deadly.

Didn't give up 16 scoring chances off the rush.

Sammy was good(er).

Marner potted one, so should feel good going forward.

The core is rotten and I will never stop saying it until one of these clowns is traded. The team is built so ridiculously stupid, pay everything into 4 guys and hope they score 5+ goals per game and win. Defense is worse this year, offense is abysmal from anyone not named Matthews or Nylander. Same garbage team. We will make playoffs but here comes another first round exit.

Also treliving didn't fire Keefe so that he has an extra year before he gets canned, what a boneheaded move coming back with keefe

This makes no sense. Reaves is clearly 4th line, and because of all the pure offensive guys we signed up front, Kampf is clearly 4th line or you are forcing offensive guys to play defensively.

What lineup do you have with the signings that makes sense where Kampf is 3C and Reaves is 4RW since they should be split up?

Treliving made all the signings, can you make a lineup that makes sense where Kampf and Reaves are split up? I know I can't.

Kampf is the odd man out as a pure defensive player, and no one else on the team is.

He fit well with guys like Engvall/Mikheyev/Kerfoot because they have similar skillsets, no one has those now.
I had laff as 4RW but clearly BT had his own idea but the ideal line for kampf on the 4th line would be similar to the clutterbug line on the island not with a speedy shooter and a fighter with stone hands better off moving kampf up and making holmberg play with them atleast he should be able to play off 4LW as he has better offensive skill and you can make sense of kampfs contract with the suitable ice time

It's probably time we send Minten down and try Nylander at C.

Jarnkrok Matthews Marner
Knies Tavares Domi
Bertuzzi Nylander Robertson
Gregor Kampf Reaves
Probably move a few players around but definitely sending mitten down let ‘em kill jr and be ready for camp next year call up Robertson and/or holmberg

one thing we’ve really f***ed ourselves with is the 3C position, minten is no where near ready. Dude is not going to score at all at his current level. He needs to go down. However we have a glaring hole there and I don’t think holmberg fixes that.

Been saying it for a while

Bertuzzi-Matthews-Jankrok
Domi-Nylander-Marner
Knies-Tavares-Minten/XXX
4th line

Imagine getting mad at Reaves when our top 6 still can't score on Bobrovsky

Has Reeves passed all the tests though?

:sarcasm:
