Shite game but keeping things in perspective, doesn't matter whether the Leafs end the season with 90, 95, 115 or 150 points.

All that matters is playoffs. These games are flushed at the end of the season and I don't care about regular season heroes anymore.
Agreed.

Tavares doing his usual disappearing act. 1 goal in his last 8. 2 on 1 late in the third and couldn’t beat binnington who was also bad today. 11 Million for what?

4th straight poor game from Samsonov. I’m not here to overreact, but Murray has been better, and we should be switching to more of a “Murray starter, Samsonov backup” setup than the tandem style we’ve been going with. If not permanently, at least until Samsonov strings together a few good performances in a row.

Murray is also worse than Campbell. Way worse.
I hope you are talking about the Campbell we had last year, which id still disagree with

Because if it’s this years Campbell….then maybe you haven’t seen his stats

It almost always happens, get accustomed to it

We’ve overpayed for a 8million dollar Center by 3 million.

I like JT but he is not an $8M C anymore. He is more like a $3-4M C. He is done.

Stupid coaching decisions cost them a point tonight, no they couldn't get a f***ing save from Samsonov either but the difference between a 5-4 win and a 6-5 loss was a short handed goal that would not have happened with a D man out there.

Samsonov does need to chose to play better
Toronto has given up 2 short handed goals the entire year, I don't mind the experiment in game 39 out of 82. Sammy sucked tonight, but lets be real, Toronto didn't exactly deserve to win this game either, they were pretty bad in there own end tonight, couldn't defend or break out cleanly in the d-zone.

There's still too much time left in the season to give the job to one of the goalies, around the 60/65 game mark would be ideal to let the goalie that's going to play in the playoffs to start every game.

Every goal scorer but Ovie goes through those sort of dry spells, it's not uncommon.

I'm sick of the same 1st round meetings every year. I'm also very sick of seeing very good teams eliminated in the 1st & 2nd rounds every f***ing season now.

I really think the NHL needs to go back to the 1 through 8 playoff seeding. The teams that have great regular seasons should be rewarded by facing lower seeded teams.

When all the top teams in a conference are in the same division, they are punished unfairly IMHO.

1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5, in both conferences should be how it is!!!

JMHO!
They should. If they played 1-8, as of today, the Leafs and Tampa would be playing either Washington or the Rangers, which would be a great.
Round two sets up much better, as well

Your right recently Murray has been better but recently they have been both hot garbage. Since Dec 10th Murray sv% is .885 (54th over that time) and Sammy is .879 (58th over that time). Two goalies tanking at the same time would suggest, team defence getting a little sloppy or the team was playing so well before this stretch that the team structure was covering up for shitty goaltending. Chicken or the egg?

From Sammys first game on 10/13 up to the day before the WSH game (10 games), he had a sv% of .933 tied for 7th best over that time. Since the WSH game his sv% is .850 good for 62nd over that period. Since the Washington game, Sammy is horrid... vs WSH .821, vs PHI .842, vs STL .882m .vs STL .844. The difference is about 1.5 to 2 goals more per game against over the last 4 games.

Ovie broke Sammy.

The logic was the NHL wanted to create rivalries .. which is horse shit IMO, you cant manufacture hate towards another team when you got TB and Toronto inthe first round, two of the softest teams in the league playing no contact flag football. The league has also said that they want to showcase talent and skill over truculence. There is a reason why the 1st round is often the best round in the NHL, because often the top teams are playing each other in the 1st round. 2 to 4 of the top 10 teams in the league are usually eliminated in the 1st round, and then you get to watch elite teams play vs crap teams in the 2nd round. Funnnnnnn,,,,,,,,,

Foster a playoffs that showcase the best teams, that provide the best TV for the longest possible period.

Nylanders defensive effort in overtime was the worst effort I've ever seen in my life. But he had a great game besides the overtime.
Samsonov had a bad game, Murray deserves to take over the net for the next while.

Yes, that was surreal. At least twice he just stood there watching a guy skate around him with the puck with zero shits given. Didn't cost us but be better Will.

I agree the team defense is certainly not what we were accustomed to seeing for a long stretch in Nov through mid-December. The odd thing is, nothing really changed personnel wise to necessitate it.

Tampa is the meanest pack of wolves in the NHL

Should be changed to 'one of......'
No one who has ever watched Tampa play would declare them soft.

Not many teams will win with that level of goaltending. Just happy to get the point
Not many take will win with that team defense.
Our players didn't show up until the middle of the 2nd period.
You could see from the drop of the puck that we left our game in Colorado.
Since just before Xmas our overall team play hasn't been great.

The team seems to play a better defensive game in front of Murray.

JT is on pace for 32 g and 73 points, in what world can you get a c who puts up those numbers for anywhere close to 3 or 4 mil?
By most metrics and including JTs great faceoff winning% JT is a top 32 centre in the league which makes him a #1 centre still.

With ROR, Tank and Krug out and the way we have played D in Nov. and Dec. I thought we had a better chance to shut them out than to give up 5 in regulation. Luckily the Blues' D is a tire fire and Binner was bad. Marner's goal in the SO was filthy and the Binner save on Sandy was the difference in the SO.

Samsonov showing us why the Caps let him go. He’s looking more and more like Mrazek, guessing and swimming all over the place. He doesn’t look confident. Time for Murray to take the net for a while.

Having said that, the great defensive structure has kind of disappeared. I’d like to see Benn and Timmins back in. I don’t know for who but a trade may be the answer.
Benn is a break glass in case of emergency only player.
He has been a bottom guy his whole career and now at 35 years old is slower and less mobile.
Usable only in 1 or 2 game stretches but a decent #8.

They deserved to lose although we should've won this one
LOL, I don't think I could have summed it up better myself.

I know so many people want to blame Sammy for this one, which is fair to a degree. He was bad, again. But we can't forget how easy we made it for St Louis to gain access to the top of the crease. The Kyrou and Lievo goals were absolutely terrible defensive breakdowns. Saad's 2nd on the night was not much better either.

We realistically played like shit for large portions of that game and showed a very strong compete to battle back from being down 2 goals on 2 separate occasions. We ended up being the better team on the night, but that does not excuse the poor defensive play from earlier. We cannot take 20 minutes off in this league against any opponent and expect to win.

We got the outcome we deserved IMO. In fact we should be happy with the single if we are being real with ourselves. We had 2 SOG for the first 15 mins of the game when we had 2 PP's. Not good enough.

I know people want to run with Murr for a bit, but I really don't see the value in that. This is a marathon, not a sprint. We are going to need both of our goalies to be on their games if we have any chance at making a long cup run. 1 could easily go down with injury and we will need the other to step up their absence. We are healthily in a playoff spot. No need to run Murr into the ground. He's already been our 1A all year when both tendy's are healthy. I agree, Sammy needs to be much much better, but he won't get there by sitting on the bench for an extended period of time. Unfortunately I think we just gotta ride this out. Murr could easily regress as well, and we will need to lean on Sammy at that point. Keeping both our tendy's sharp and healthy should be the biggest priority

I don't think defensemen or goaltenders were the major issue last night.

In my opinion it was defensemen, goaltenders and forwards.

They got a point based on talent, not team.

And Leafs were only out goaltended in the shootout.

It was an all-around bad performance, by both teams.
