Aside from the goaltending, i'm taking the positives. Coming back from 4 two goal defecits shows character and it was a team effort.

It's been all season. There has been speculation something is bothering him

It looked worse the first few weeks, all of his goals were just shovelling scrambles or tips until about November, he started shooting a little more and a little better from stationary set ups the past month or so.

Something is clearly wrong with Matthews, I never understand why it doesn't get more coverage. I'm not even talking about his shooting from distance anymore, he's whiffing on shots Kerfoot would make. It's good that he can work around it with his B game but he needs to get sorted out and get his hands back by the playoffs.
I'd say its his wrist again but his overall clumsiness makes me second guess that. He doesn't look healthy. Really dark bags under his eyes, gassed when he shouldn't be, unable to stay on his feet. Like his equilibrium is off.

I hate to say it but I'm nervous about seeing him enter the player assistance program at some point considering the company he keeps off the ice.

Justin bieber is a sober religious family man now

I don’t think it’s drugs.

While i agree with you about shows character we really need to tighten up our game. We really have been playing subpar of late.

It looks like a core injury maybe, he looks ok shooting when he's set up but if he has to make any sort of awkward stretch or quick reaction to the puck he's whiffing.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with Matthews. He's having a down year. It's pretty obvious, no puck luck this year, he's not injured. He just doesn't have it. I've said it before, it sucks Matthews will have to endure this because he set the bar so high with a 60 goal season but that is an absurd season which he will probably not hit again for while.

But all this is, is a down year in terms of goal scoring for Matthews. It happens it's sports.

this has to be one of the stupidest takes I've seen on these boards in a while.

Only saw the third and OT/SO, was Samsonov as bad as he looked?
He looked very shaky live. Had a really strong first 5 minutes or so and then every puck that went even close to him looked like it was going in.

How sandin was put out for the shootout is very confusing.

He just forgot how to use his bread and butter shot? I don't care about the 60 goals and he's pacing fine for goalscoring, it's that he has scored maybe 2 goals off his signature angle change shot through the skates this year, he hasn't even attempted many. He can put up his career avg goal/point totals and it would still look like something's off if most of those goals look like Kreider's highlight reel.

That's not even getting into looking weaker on his skates and making unforced errors or mishandling the puck this year.

if you watch the leafs closely you would of seen Matthews has had dark bags under his eyes since his Rookie year, go back and look

who cares how he's scoring if he's still pacing good? Honestly to me it just looks like the opposition has taken time and space away from him, teams are attacking him a lot faster than in the past, he doesn't have the same amount of time to get the shot off. He's also drifting to the high point a lot more this year. It really doesn't have anything to do with his shot. Looks like maybe he wanted to change the area of where his shots come from this year and it hasn't exactly worked out for him.

He's not injured at all, maybe his timing is a bit off but like I've said this is not that abnormal. When you have an off-year things just don't go right, timing of release is off, not the greatest feel for the puck or his shot. Off-years happen, not everything is injury related.
