No matter what ..
You can’t have 22 giveaways in a game any way you slice it …
You can’t be this soft in your bottom 6
And you have to have at least 1 hard nosed talented mean grown up man

Devils have high end skill with spreed and tenacity e very shift on their top 6
But , here’s the thing , their bottom half plays real hard and real tough and strong and with speed and consistency.

We certainly have that in our top 6 and more ..
The rub is , again , you can’t compete and win big games and build a team of the same type and style of player and copy that through your bottom six , but with lesser talent as you go from 3rd and 4th … you just won’t , no matter what sone of you want to believe and will it to be .
You and we will not win the only one that matters , hell we can’t even go past the 1st , man that absolutely kills that we can’t until there is a dramatic shift in the way we have been constructed.
It’s flawed , you need a mix of everything, I feel bad for the high end players and for the bottom and for the team and management and us , the real deal folks , Leaf Nation , young and old ..
Love these high end player , incredible, all of them , really incredible athletes and highly skilled like no other in this teams history , no doubt .
But lack of , I’m shaking my head as usual , the lack of “ life “ energy and tenacity and just take the effin body , you don’t have to crush everyone , other than the bottom 3-4 that should always “ crush “ opponents into the boards with speed and with fierceness and hunger !!
So enough already with praising these “ band-aide “ players like , 62 , 47 , 19 , 29 , 15 , for their 2-4 good games out of the first 20 , just doesn’t cut it ! It won’t ever cut it ! If your trying to build a true cup winner , Replace them , within your development program or go out and acquire this type of player , to balance the look , feel , vibe , and culture of what it takes to actually win .

Bruins do it .
Tampa
Colorado
Pens
And on and on , those teams that go after the cup for real year in year out .
Go and see what those cup winners and eras always and the great old teams of the past as well .
Their bottom 6 and 2 d had all of those types skills to complement the high end talent .
So that’s it from me ..
Always love and bleed blue for the Crest and the franchise, always be passionate about expecting “ true” Leaf Hockey , always very good and sprinkled in with superstars , but Leaf History and great teams had , heart and soul and played balls to the wall for the most part .
But not now , that sucks , I’m really surprised by Shanny allowing this and not seeing this glaring deficiency??? Puzzling ..
GFLG

Get off my lawn !!! You younguns !!! Off my lawn !!! Or I’ll …🥸🤪😳😡🥵😰

Imagine two younger nasty Benn clones on Leafs defence? Trade one of the Big 4 to beef up the D, Kyle.

Apart from Benn, the only bodychecks in our own zone all night were from JT and Matthews. This is insane...
Wayyyyy too soft of a lineup

6 million in cap for kerfoot and engvall is a problem through the 1st 17 games. i hate engvall because he does nothing when he isnt scoring, which he doesnt do much of. but kerfoot has been even worse this year.
Dubas and Keefe loved Kerfoot to death

If I'm the leafs, I trade first round picks and prospects to fill out the team. Go for ROR or Horvat and a top 4 d-man and go all in. If they win then great. If they can't win with Horvat+top d-man then you know it can't be done with this group. you blow it up and recoup all your draft picks.

Horvat would definitely help and I would be in on him depending on the cost and whether we can extend him. If we can add him before the end of the year, I'd want this team to show me they deserve to be added to before I mortgage more of the future.

I thought the Leafs played well but the Devs deserved it. Both teams played a tight game but the Devils capitalized on a couple of turnovers and that was that. If I have one complaint it's why are the Leafs playing riverboat gambler with crazy desperation passes in OT this season? Just f***ing hold it and wait for a chance like we used to fellas. Has to be a coaching thing because it's clearly a pattern now.
I agree with this, it may be one of only 4 or 5 posts that have anything to do with the reality of what happened in that game tonight.

A couple of things

Sandin looked more like himself than at anytime previously in this season. He was doing the little things, maybe he's turned a corner, it's about time and it means only good things going forward.

The Devils are for real, theyre healthy and all hands are on deck. The Devils were the favourite tonight on the road, yes that's right the favourite on the road. They have dominated in most games they've played so far, and the Leafs played them pretty even for a majority of that game.

Yes the Leafs have some deficiencies, we'd like to see more size in the bottom 6 and they need more physicality from the blueline. The big boys aren't even playing at their normal level, once they do start scoring at that elite level the 2 goal games will be in the rear view mirror.

The goaltending isn't yet settled but it looks like it might be once Sammy's back.

It's still early, they're sitting in a playoff spot and all is not lost. Take a puff, take a drink, meditate just do what you need to do to chill, life is way to short to be gnashing your teeth about stuff that will work itself out.

Relax

Kind of hard to play keep away when your team is slow.

Not sure what kind of identity we have right now.

Incoming.......

Not only leafs have 50% of the cap tied to 4 forwards they are wasting 5.5 million in cap space (holl + kerfoot).

so it seems the identity seems to be.... "keep making shit up as you go"

nah nah I gotta Dubasify it -> "its a process. chinese farmer. we are very close to winning the cup. "

and now i gotta translate it -> "fake it till you make it"

Pretty demoralizing to get dominated by a younger & more structured team like that. It's crazy how we've ended up in a scenario where the Devils are much better than us.

If the top line isn't going, this team looks so mediocre. Difficult to be optimistic about this group.

the path that dubas has put the leafs on; i think habs are gonna rebuild and go another deep playoff run before leafs can get out of 1st round

I said today 4-2 Devils with an empty netter. Not even the NHL'S best team at the moment can beat us in regulation. Keep getting better and be at their best for game 83 is all I ask.

So someone mansplain to me why our "coach" has the the 2 time Rocket Richard Award Winner standing in the middle of the 4 defenders on the PP. Now I realize he got one tonight, but is that really the best deployment for him?

Galaxy Braining to the nth degree.

Don't kid yourself. Just because they didn't doesn't mean they can't. The Leafs were more lucky than good

Bad turnover by JT, no doubt, but once again we are exposed by Rielly’s inability to defend at an NHL level. How hard is it to stay in between your man and the front of your net? It’s very basic defensive principles. Time and time again he is making terrible decisions defensively, and yet he’s always the one starting 3 on 3.

Rielly would benefit so much on 3 on 3 if he just stayed between the two faceoff circles defensively and didn’t try to scramble too much or blow the zone when you’re the “defenseman.”

He's not a D in OT, he's a Rover. In OT, Rover takes over and gives the other team a bone of his own.

Leafs played a really good game against a team that is playing with a lot of confidence and the right way. They have to fix a few things though. There is still too much gambling by the defence. Their PP isn’t very good. They’re not scoring on 5on5.

But worst of all, their 3on3 play is truly abysmal. Why not start with the hot hand Nylander with Matthews? I’m getting tired of Marner’s reckless play. Tavares made the bonehead play tonight though. He should have regrouped because he was in traffic and Marner wouldn’t have been away anyways.

I think they executed their game plan reasonably well to how they want to play but it’s a stale formula played at a medium tempo with a lot of guys who don’t have much pop in their game.

Sadly this was one of the better games the Leafs played this season. It still wasn't enough. #91 has had a good season so far. The pass heading out of his zone in OT was terrible. Everything is off this season. Give and go's that were routine, now something goes wrong. Sandin is whiffing on too many passes and regressing before our eyes. Keefe has that dead man walking look. It's getting close to the time for Dubas to do something. fire the coach, make a significate trade. This team needs a cattle prod.

Maybe that's the type of team the Leafs need to be in the playoffs. Four lines. More depth.
The Leats wouldn’t be intimidated, at least.

JT can’t do that, he’s either gotta get it out or reset to rielly

Can’t say much else
Totally. Lots of time there to swing back and get some fresh legs on. I don’t know what’s with this team and overtime. I now anticipate a loss when it goes to OT. Just don’t win many.
