Post-Game Talk: Leafs Lose in OT Again to Devils.

I undersand the defense has been weakened by injuries and you don't want to erode Sandin's confidence any further, but he's also not a make a wish kid. Mete and Kral looked passable, let them play and give Sandin a break. You can't play your way out of a slump by sucking every night anyway

He's playing like a bit of a jackass. Kind of trying full confidence Norris level Adam Fox plays at bad times with no purpose, no offensive upside but high risk and ill timed. But part of the problem is what is he expected to be? He seems to have fallen into a bit of the Leafs/Dermott development trap where he's stuck in a gear shift between being neither defensively sound or offensively productive.

You'd think so after their little give and go tying goal. When Matthews has a taste for offense that usually lights a fire under him. But they go fast and we go slow apparently.

Dumb brain fart from Taraves st the end. Rielly also had a pretty poor game, really need him to get things together with Brodie down.

Positively Murray played well enough to give the team a chance to win. Ended regulation with a .935

Sportsnet 590 post-game guy is talking to that point. He says the Devils roll four lines evenly and there is no discernable drop-off, it looks like all four lines play the same, Devils are built as a TEAM.

Leafs have to be blown up and rebuilt to achieve that.

i dont trust any of our dmen after gio/brody/lily.

benn has been good but i dont know him enough yet.
holl has been horrendous, but thats just to be expected.
sandin has been pretty bad too, but hes a kid, so he gets a little slack.
rielly has been the biggest dissapointment for me so far this year. given how much hes paid, points aside hes been very very very bad defensively imo.

If I'm the leafs, I trade first round picks and prospects to fill out the team. Go for ROR or Horvat and a top 4 d-man and go all in. If they win then great. If they can't win with Horvat+top d-man then you know it can't be done with this group. you blow it up and recoup all your draft picks.
 
Sadly this was one of the better games the Leafs played this season. It still wasn't enough. #91 has had a good season so far. The pass heading out of his zone in OT was terrible. Everything is off this season. Give and go's that were routine, now something goes wrong. Sandin is whiffing on too many passes and regressing before our eyes. Keefe has that dead man walking look. It's getting close to the time for Dubas to do something. fire the coach, make a significate trade. This team needs a cattle prod.

Maybe that's the type of team the Leafs need to be in the playoffs. Four lines. More depth.

Athanasiou at 50 % retained would be a great replacement for Mik on the 3rd line. Maybe a deal involving Athanasiou + Murphy could be had.

Knowing Kyle and his wannabe outside of box thinking. He probably thinks sinking is actually diving and believe he is reinventing the game. Lol.

This is what pisses me off!

- Holl SUCKED all night but he kept getting minutes
- Marner/Holl/Kerfoot with ridiculous giveaways that led to transition for the devils with quality chance against but no accountability
- Matthews and Nylander both with goals but he starts with JT-Marner who had been MIA entire night

- Rielly has gotten worst this season for some reason I don't get how he can be so bad compared to last season

Leaafs are also running a different system which SUCKS IMO

Bad turnover by JT, no doubt, but once again we are exposed by Rielly’s inability to defend at an NHL level. How hard is it to stay in between your man and the front of your net? It’s very basic defensive principles. Time and time again he is making terrible decisions defensively, and yet he’s always the one starting 3 on 3.
