I think they executed their game plan reasonably well to how they want to play but it’s a stale formula played at a medium tempo with a lot of guys who don’t have much pop in their game.

18 games in and it is pretty dubious that Dubas has gutted our forward depth. With Matty scoring at a 37 and Mitch at an 18 goal pace, there is no hiding this.

Toronto really needs to find a way to get 5 on 5 goals, I don't think keeping someone like Robertson out every other game is the play to make when you're struggling to score. Holmberg isn't the guy that's going to make everything better because someone like Kerfoot can play his natural position.

Sportsnet 590 post-game guy is talking to that point. He says the Devils roll four lines evenly and there is no discernable drop-off, it looks like all four lines play the same, Devils are built as a TEAM.

Leafs have to be blown up and rebuilt to achieve that.
Yup. With the way Dubas has built this team there will be no easy fix

You want to risk mortgaging more of the future and making another first round exit ?? Sorry, Kyle has to sink or swim with this team.
I never said I wanted to do that. I was speaking to the posters that say we just need to add this guy or that guy. I don’t think that will make a difference.

I said today 4-2 Devils with an empty netter. Not even the NHL'S best team at the moment can beat us in regulation. Keep getting better and be at their best for game 83 is all I ask.

This team is not a contender.
That should be clear.
But the reason they aren’t scoring goals this year is because Matthews is struggling with some kind of upper body injury that has affected his shot.
And while Marner has been their best offensively this year it looks like Tavares’ skating has reverted to form.

Willy and Mathews are literally made for 3v3... Fast, great shots, and great playmaking ability. I'm not mad when you put Marner out there but having JT play before those guys is a travesty.
Tavares starting OT is Keefe's coaching this year in a nutshell

Somebody gotta put keefe on a salad diet; his "feel" thing has been  worthy

- bench lily for holl against bolts in the playoffs
- holl costs leafs both game 6 and game 7
- "respect in the handshake line"
- walking back comments

eat a salad there keefe buddy your brain ain't functioning
Sounds like he's playing slots rather then coaching a hockey game.

It makes me wonder why they spend so much money on analytics and video scouting if they're just going to let Keefe make gut feeling decisions to coach the team. It's not like he's proven to have hall of fame level coaching instincts

I would guess they have too big a staff and everyone has a say by committee with little hare brained optimizations on every little thing. I heard Colorado had one of the smallest and tightest front offices last year while the playoffs were on and thought that was interesting as a contrast. Not a lot of voices but they’re all clearly heard.

I watched less than half the game, so don't have much angst.

Watched the highlights, Nylander's goal, and the lowlights marner in overtime.

Well, at least they got the point for the regulation tie.
