Really didn't expect when we signed jumbo Joe and Vesey, they would be playing in our top 6 that has to change. I also don't see the point in dressing Barabanov if hes only going to play 4 mins, surely we have someone on the taxi sqaud that can provide us with more then 4 mins of icetime.

That game was just a typical leafs loss though, good thing they play again tomorrow

I would land somewhere in the middle of these 2 comments
Don't get me wrong, I love the leafs and our players but with the amount of cap invested in our big 4 and the question marks we have on defense and goalie, making a high profile trade is almost necessary to rebalance the team.

So umm....why does you guys keep Mikko Lehtonen doing nothing and not letting him play???
- the best defenseman two years in a row in the KHL, World Champion, SHL champion,
World Junior Champion, awesome skater, even more awesome hockey IQ,
his ability to get the puck to the net is magical, perfect QB for your PP,
oh and plus, he knows how to play defense as well you know and haves leadership qualities too

We don’t know...

we want him in, too. It may be cap related...

I’m not gonna freak out 2 games into the season, and starting out the season super sloppy defensively is something we always do. But ... I was hoping for better physically out of this team. We got outhit 33 to 12 tonight, and against Montreal we were outhit 32 to 14.

It seemed like we should be bigger and tougher this season, but so far we’re soooooooo soft. Teams like Ottawa and Montreal should not be bullying us.

Watching the highlights:

Goal against #1: It's a 5 on 3 what're you gonna do? Freddy did look real small in net on that goal though.

Goal against #2: Brodie needs to figure out how to move Tkachuk form out front of the net there. Also wish Hyman had moved his legs instead of gliding the final 10 feet to Zaitsev. Might've intercepted him before he got the shot off.

Goal against #3: There's no reason for Paul to come away from the boards with the puck with both Rielly and Spezza on him, and then Barabanov fails to intercept the pass to Coburn who drops it off to Watson. Bogosian should've skated out more and he maybe would've gotten a shin in front of the shot, but he was concerned about Coburn who honestly made a nice play to drop it back to Watson. Really I have a hard time faulting him or Andersen (who was screened) too much here. It was just a nice Sens play that shouldn't have transpired if Rielly and Spezza had done their job, or Barabanov for that matter.

Goal against #4: Yeah it was a 6 on 5 but the Leafs need to do far better protecting the net front. Again Brodie and Rielly are victims of this, don't know how all 5 Leafs could collapse close to the net and yet any one of the three Sens around the net front would've had a pretty good look at putting the puck in, Tierney did and it was 4-2.

Goal against #5: And once again Brodie and Rielly are incapable of protecting the net front and the Sens bang home another garbage goal. It's no coincidence those types of goals goals came when that pairing was on the ice. Both guys need to be so much stronger at defending Freddy and that area. Rough night for them. One of Matthews or Brodie should've stayed with Stepan instead of chasing the puck and leaving him alone at the side of the net, I'm gonna say Brodie since he's the defenseman and should be playing lower, though Auston could've had awareness as well.

All in all, I suppose Freddy may be getting more flak than he deserves. First goal sure you wish he could've been a brick wall on that penalty kill, but it's still early, second goal just lazy Hyman play and he was screened with no help to clear the area from Brodie, third he was again screened on a broken-ish play that shouldn't have even formed if we could win puck battles, fourth again a botched block shot and the area around him was littered with Sens players, Leafs were outnumbered but still, and the fifth goal Stepan is left all alone at the side to put it home and put the game out of reach.

Stupid loss. Freddy needs to be better but the Leafs need to give him a hand now and again. Letting the Sens crowd him does us no favours.

Bogo was physical, as well as Simmonds, obviously. Not getting that front of net presence we were looking for just yet. I think Keefe is a goof and his line combos suck.

The sky is not falling..but with that said the same problems surface and its got a lot to do with team chemistry the 200 ft game is not instilled in this squad....if they score a lot they may win otherwise games are always up for grabs. No real defensive shut you down/knock you down/let you know their around line.
A line who can play against all lines keeping the opps. top lines off balance....AKA.. NYI Identity line.

Freddy is trash. Can’t wait til we move on from him. If Campbell wins tonight we should ride him. It’s Andersen’s last season anyway.

Leafs have no clue how to play a tight defensive game and lock it down. Its the same old uninspired, disjointed hockey from them. Same script every year.

It almost as if Keefe was told to play Hyman less to try and keep his contract demands down, he's become one of our best wingers. Lets go way back to what worked

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Simmonds - Tavares - Marner
Mikeyev - Kerfoot - Vesey
Thornton - Spezza - Barbanov

Basically the team is the same. Same opportunistic offense with no chemistry, same fragile defense and leaking goalie. They brought in hired muscle and that's it. Not going to work. We will still lose but will be entertained watching fights.
I was preaching it for years, but again: we need fighters, not lovers.

Reilly is not a top pair material. He is first to go, followed by his buddy Andy.

Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
Mikhayev - Tavares - Marner
Thornton - Kerfoot - Robertson
Simmonds - Spezza - Vesey

Rielly - Lehtonen
Muzzin - Brodie
Dermott - Holl

Campbell

Waive Dell if you have to. Learn on Muzzin/Brodie a bit more...and continue to let Rielly fly
