That wasn't the worst loss in the world, though game 2 and it being against the Senators certainly helps push it in that direction. Leafs played alright offensively and applied a ton of pressure in the second period. Unfortunately, some bad goals ended up in our net and not enough ended in theirs. We saw a glimpse of that elite dominant team, but then sloppy goals ended up in our net and suddenly we're chasing the game.
October Freddy in January is no bueno. The defense is bad, but come on dude. Brodie was terrible the first half of the game but I thought he made a lot of really great defensive plays in the third. Nylander was astoundingly bad, which was very surprising and disappointing after how brilliant he was in game 1. I don't even remember Marner playing, which is somehow worse. Matthews is playing like an absolute man on fire but seems snakebitten. Tavares was great. Thanks to Vesey's dad for all he's done for the organization, but get this guy off the 2nd line.
The Sens are a deceptively strong team. They're probably still last in the division and we're still probably first, but every team is good enough to win on any given night. That game is a game that could have gone either way and we made enough mistakes and had enough bad bounces that we came out on the losing end.
