All I'm saying is it's actually Gary Bettman who has created this nonsense system. Sure, introduce a hard cap and a 50/50 profit split. But cap your ticket prices too while you're at it.

Covid impact curtailed the continuous cap increases.

It wouldn't be great, but it would like be 4-6 million higher than it is today.

Boston just went through a rebuild/retool and they're already better than us again.

Chara, Lucic, Hamilton, Krug, McQuaid, Backes and Tukka Rask all gone.

Fired coach who took them to game 7 of the finals four years ago when they lost in the first round last year.

Some organizations know how to challenge for the cup, some apparently don't.
Yup, exactly!!!! Shanahan and Dubas are clueless, and it shows by comparing our Leafs to the Bruins!!!!

- I don't think Sandin can handle playoff hockey and it showed once again tonight, he got destroyed by Boston's forecheck. To be fair, Liljergen wasn't any better, his worst game of the season by far
- This team needs more scoring prowess, outside of Matthews/Nylander there isn't much to consistently rely on
- Goaltending has some highs but boy does it got some lows. Samsonov was awful in the 2nd/3rd, gave up 3 goals that he should have had. I worry about the mental side of the game for him

last season Lily paired with Gio had no issues playing against Boston IMO.

Sandin is too slow; like JT to play against fast teams. both of them can't keep up with the speed of the game.

In terms of scoring; we have three players with 11 AAV thats 33 million tied in 3 players; getting quality depth scoring is not easy. In couple years Willy would need a raise too same time as Matthews and we don't even have one playoff round win.

I don't even know what we are

Maybe with Matthews in the lineup, we could have been good for another goal, but, we still gave up 5 goals and I don't see us not giving up 5, even with AM in the line up. I'm certainly not in the morose, "we're doomed" camp. simply because teams tend to play like unwiped bum for stretches during the season. I will say though that it seems like come playoff time, we'll either have a really hot or a really cold goaltender, depending on the biorhythms and the phase of the moon, yada yada.

That goal was not on Marner. Lol.

That goal was on 44 not covering the slot.
So Marner being very simply boxed out was enough? He should not try to distrupt the passer on that play at all? Everyone should just stand approximately where there supposed to be (in this case on the wrong side of the puck) without "trying" to do anything. Not even a battle stance.

Jeesh... My bad..your right. Marner was "standing" in about the right position. Jeesh Rielly!!

Yep, because they are too slow, I think both Sandin and JT should be traded.

I definitely think Liljergen can rebound and do a lot better, he's been exceptional for the entire season so one game doesn't mean much. He also has the skills to excel imo, his mobility, size and strength are attributes Sandin doesn't have

It is quite the predicament. A team built on offense with 4 forwards making half the cap but we need more scoring. Thankfully there are some good options on the market right now, maybe we can grab one. I don't see the depth scoring come playoff time

also need a good third line center
Yep, Kampf and his 1 goal in 44 games just doesn't cut it as a 3C. He needs to contribute even one iota of offense to justify more than a 4th line role and he can't. Playing him 16 minutes at 5v5 (more time than Marner got) is way too much and they aren't going to do anything in the playoffs if they lean on him that hard

Terrible game by Samsonov, Liljegren, and especially Sandin. Tavares disinterested most of the game. The fourth line with Simmonds on it offers very little. Yeah, he won a fight, big deal. Didn't ignite squat. We need players who can play a complete game, not a goon. The entire team looked fatigued, with little energy or purpose.

Trying to find a positive...Nylander was ok, Marner average. Everything else was meh. We were missing Matthews, but I didn't like the overall vibe from the team. We could have had a more positive result despite the play if Samsonov makes that save on the 4 on 4.

Not all is lost. This has to show Dubas that we need a top 4d, to push Sandin out. A top 6 winger. And perhaps two more bottom 6 with some edge, size, and speed. Tough task but the optics of this game were not good.

Thats the issue I had when people starting blaming Andersen after the CBJ series. It was actually the lack of scoring that did us in it wasn't goal tending. It was pretty evident then.

Then same thing repeated with the habs too.

Quality depth scoring is not cheap; it costs about 3 to 4 million in cap space; and we don't have that. We have kerfoot at 3.5 AAV but doesn't score timely goals; usually pots a few or is in offense when Leafs don't need them

Competent management group with a foresight and hockey acumen/aptitude to start
They’ll need that if they want to build a cup contending team, but for now management is focussed on winning a round. Oddly enough, that may cost them any chance a building a contender.

Disappointed, but expected

Last game before break
No matthews
Divisional rival
It’s freaking Boston

Hopefully matthews starts getting better soon, kerfoot at 2C should actually be a felony.
We need a 3 Center that we are comfortable slotting into the top 6 when one of the big two gets injured. Kerfoot is not even close to being that guy.

We're just a top six forward, a couple of D men and a goalie away from being a contender.

Dubas will get it handled. All part of the Shanaplan.

LMAO

Leafs are the only team I think league wide who doesn't have a quality point shot on the powerplay; 3 players with 11 AAV; rolling chairs with our goalies, and secondary pieces.

Leafs are like a Ferrari driven by rookie

While not always totally ideal, Simmonds has earned a spot. He does much more than other rotation players they’ve tried. At least he brings it
Agreed. You know what you're going to get with him. No goals, and a few assists, but he will paste people to the boards every time he gets on the ice and fight if the team needs a spark. And yet, on one hand, I can't imagine him being in the lineup for the first round, but on the other hand, given the soft makeup of this team, I can't see him not being in the lineup for the first round. Without him, they get rag dolled.

The score was maybe a little worse than it should've been thanks to goaltending, but the Leafs continue to show that they love making huge mistakes at inopportune times to give their opponent free goals. 90% of the game they look like they're right there with Boston as an elite team, but the other 10% is night and day.
By now, the Leafs core should be much better than Boston’s.

Yes, who scored for the Bruins?

Zacha with 2, Forbort, Greer, Carlo.

Pastrnak, Marchand, Bergeron, Hall, Krejci total of 2 points.

Leafs need another center, Tavares and Kerfoot as your top 2 won't cut it.

Another top 6 winger would go a long way.

Kerfoot and Barrie for Kadri ;)

:sarcasm:

Remember a couple of trade deadlines ago when Boston picked up Hall and we picked up Foligno?

I'm seeing more and more comments on here about another finisher or top six winger.

Another example of the missmanagement.
100% a very poor choice

Highlights NHL.com -first play is Mitch giving the puck away while playing point. Boston takes it the other way and Marner playing defense leaves a guy wide opens for partial breakaway and samsonov makes desperation save to keep puck out.

First goal against... Mitch marner on the boards with Frederic, Frederick "easily" protects the puck from Marner making a pass and scores. Watch the play Marner doesn't even make an attempt to battle for the puck after he's boxed out. He just stands there with his skate against the boards, body in controller disconnect mode. He definitely doesn't want to strain anything for that upcoming vacation.
Exactly right, pathetic. No one from bostons core would play like that against a rival.

Our D were trash tonight….how can anyone think they will last 4 rounds? I hate bashing sandin because the kids good but he will get focused on in the playoffs and they will just dump it into his corner and cycle on him. He holds the puck to long. Holl has to many give aways and brain farts under pressure, playoffs will highlight that as it always does. Holl can’t be in our top 4. Timmins is decent but I wouldn’t say I’m confident with him in our top 4 in the playoffs.
Rielly brodie lilly are solid.

Just my opinion but that’s only 3/4 top 4 D I have faith in and none are bangers. The rest are 5/6 in this years playoffs and none are bangers or are really that competitive.
