Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 4-2

Nothing I said is wrong. I’m not giving anyone a pass for what we just witnessed. We all should expect a lot better. The fact remains though, this team at 40% is better than Arizona and not giving full effort doesn’t immediately mean you deserve to lose. The body of work in the game clearly says we were the better team by and large

This is a game where the Leafs should be knocking them out of the rink 3-0 after the first or something like that. What's the reason not to when you have the talent advantage, home ice and the structure, process and motivation to do it? We've seen this half assed no show too many times against sub .500 teams to understand there's a respect the opposition issue here.

Still blaming Holl and the officials? Wake up - Leafs are built around a core of offensive stars. Leafs at home tonight score two goals against the worst team in the league.

Bunch of entitled frat boys. What's a new coach going to do if neither Babcock and Keefe, polar opposites in their approaches, couldn't crack the nut?

Can't be mad at him seems like a good dude he's just barely an nhl level goalie not his fault he's in this position

I Don't give a single f*** if he's a good dude, He can be the biggest asshole in the history of the world as long as he can do his job, he can't he proved it last year and he proved it tonight.

He's garbage

I mean when 2/3 of your leadership is goofy teenager body Mitchell Marner and your captain is shy introvert Tavares... what do you expect?

Fire Keefe, give Matthew's a C.... and go from there. I'd trade Marner too but nobody should be surprised of that.

There personalities are enough to tell you this group isn't winning a cup.

This team needs something big to happen.... they aren't going to just magically change one day without a significant reason.

Matthews had 4 shots on goal and 0 hits in 24 mins I don't know if he's the solution to our effort issue

No disagreement. They should have been better. They also deserved to win. These things are not mutually exclusive

Why? The call was correct. The only thing that bugs me about it is there should be a time limit for replay. If you have to look at it for ten minutes then the call (or non call) on the ice should stand.
First, I agree that they need to impose a time limit on reviews.

As far as the call goes, while technically it hit Reilly's glove and then dropped to the ice where Marner picked it up, there is no way that broke the "spirit of the rule" of a hand pass. Couple that with ambiguity of the role the Yote's stick played, there is no rational for overturning the call on the ice.

The amount of hair splitting that goes on these reviews is ruining the game.

This team is hilarious.

Don't let the fact they're cursed to lose in novel ways for eternity distract you from the fact that Justin Holl had the worst clearing attempt on that PK that I've ever seen.
That was unbelievable. His shoulder was only 2 feet from the boards. My 2 year old could have backhanded that puck off the boards and out. Lol.

I don't get why everyone is so mad. Leafs absolutely dominated them in the 1st and 3rd period.

Shot Attempts were probably 60-25 by the end of the game
Actual shots didn't reflect that but SOG can be deceiving, but we still outshot them 3:2
60% on faceoffs
PP was 1/5, it can't be 50% every night.
PK wasn't good - fine
It took a real iffy reversal to prevent us from getting a point.
Would love to see the OZone Possession Time comparison between the two teams. I suspect the Leafs absolutely dominated that.

If you play that game 10 times Leafs will probably 7 of 10. Tough loss, look for some of the positives and move on.
Execution is the simple answer. This was a game they chose to piss away with poor attention to detail and unforced errors

How in the world did we lose this game???

I mean we showed up and played hard for almost 15 whole minutes the entire game?

That should be more than enough to win, amiright?

Luckily Keefe will make brilliant adjustments for the next game that will see Holl log almost 25 minutes. It’s almost not fair what a weapon we have in Hollsy.

Malgin will continue his dominant ways and we will rule the school…. :)

Matthews, we need you buddy.

Nylander and JT have just looked amazing so far. Good to see.

Was the rule the school comment a Belle and Sebastian reference?

Team looks to me like they're tuning Keefe out already. Coach killers kill another one yay

They don't face any real world consequences ever

Why would they listen to Keefe

The only one who will have to earn a 15 mil plus a year contract under this regime is Willly and shockingly he's playing his nuts off

Calling out the refs and NHL won’t do shit but make things worse. You can’t win with these thin-skinned f***s. Remember last season when too many teams were complaining about officiating and they put out a statement? Babies, the lot of them.

If the Leafs called them out they would hold the vendetta all season, and possibly beyond. We’d never get a call in our favour again. Sure an American team like the Ducks or Rangers can speak out because that’s who the NHL caters to. Us? They’d throw us under the bus without hesitation. Leafs make money hand over fist no matter what.
There is quite honestly no harm in doing it aside from taking fines. Multiple refs have been dismissed from officiating playoffs after mishandling Toronto round one games dating back to the Boston series, one of the most egregious late series game management examples in Tampa, and a multi season trend of TOR getting the least PP opportunities in the league. It's already blatant.
