Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 4-2

We can keep him around now no? Good depth.

I find the Malgin-nation defensive stuff on here tonight hilarious, sorry for noting he was benched and hasn’t had a shot for three games playing with Nylander. Sheesh. Why do people die on a hill for a guy we’ve seen before and dumped? Especially when there is a high touted kid sitting in the wings, appearing ready for a shot? It’s a storyline this year, you can comment and still think the big guns need to do more, that’s self evident.
With an elite NHL shot. He’ll be in against his brother on Thursday

I actually hope the team continues to lay eggs and lose, if it means getting rid of Shanahan, Dubas, and Keefe!!! Shanahan is an NHL plant to keep the Leafs from competing for a Stanley Cup!!! He has built and maintained a team that doesn't play the way he played for NHL success!!! Good enough for regulation season success and complete failures in the playoffs!!! JMHO!!!

What a surprise we play like ass for two periods go down 2-0 before we decide to turn it on, get screwed by the refs after they give up the go ahead and lose 4-2. Seriously how many times do we need to the same story before this team wakes up.

Sit everybody making 10 million plus the next game and just have the camera on the fabulous 4 some and make sure they don’t have access to their phones so they can watch a team of nobodies put in more effort then they do. I don’t care if we lose 15-0 something needs to change.

Keefe doesn’t sound like a guy with a lot of runway left. The team is unresponsive emotionally and isn’t showing the progression in process. Doesn’t look motivated or organized. And he’s snapping on them. I don’t know that it’s his fault. But I don’t think he has the answers.
His meltdown during the second practice of pre-season was interesting.

And one of the best in the game was sitting there, but our loyalty program and cozy relationships wouldn’t dare replace a guy who was literally out coached three years in a row. Glad it’s a training ground while our prime years rot away. He’s a middling coach at best, why are treating him like some guy with a pedigree that has earned the benefit of the doubt. Go get Trotz, there’s an elite coach.
They've missed out on Gallant, Cassidy and likely Trotz while Keefe yells at referees and shakes his head in pressers.

keefe:

"the difference between us and the coyotes is we have elite players, our elite players didnt play elite today"

sums it up nicely lol

Not on the coach at this point. Theyve been in a position to succeed year in and year out with the "right" players and havent succeeded.

This early season has been filled with poor decision making and bad execution, not much a cosch can do there

Well they can "throw it in the blender" but even that only goes so far.

If our top line starts playing to what they are capable of doing, then we are easily 4-0 and none of these games are close. The other things start looking a lot less dire and the coaching staff can focus on fine-tuning those things rather than figuring out how to make up for a floundering top line that we should not need to worry about.

Malgin has outplayed Bunting. Tavares has outplayed Matthews. Nylander has outplayed Marner. It is nice that our 2nd line is doing well, but that is simply unacceptable.

I don't think it's Keefe.

Hard to get motivated when you're one of the best cores in the league and your GM rewards you with a half assed bottom 6, unreliable Matt Murray and Evgeni Malgin as 2LW who is still playing for only God knows why.

I don't get how they didn't show up and hammer this team , can't even blame the goalie to make me feel a little better about this loss .
The Leafs play to the level of their competition, which is well known and that is why they lose to bottom feeders and non playoff teams like Montreal and Arizona, and a good coach would change that, and get his team ready and motivated.

Strong playoff teams like Pittsburgh and Boston hammered these same Coyotes 6-2 and 6-3 in their previous games.

ZAR has played Centre before, I would actually put him as the 4th line C and throw Simmonds on the wing and just make that line all about energy and hitting.

I would remove Engvall and Malgin and put in Robertson and Simmonds.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Nylander Tavares Jarnkrok
Robertson Kampf Kerfoot
Simmonds ZAR NAK

Gives the lineup a little more toughness and scoring(Robertson)

How'd Pitts do against Montreal? Don't try to spin it too hard.

From Friedman

Part of Sheldon Keefe’s post-game breakdown: “Our best people have not found their rhythm…The difference between us and Arizona is that we have elite players. Our elite players didn't play like elite players today and couldn’t make a difference.

It was an epic matchup of AHL level talent vs bush league work ethic.

Yep, some of the last place Leaf teams were more likeable IMHO!!! 60 years of misery as a Leaf fan too!!!
Agreed. They were actually entertaining. Now we watch the Bettman Special: a no-hitter slick video game. Really boring. No dangerous, violent or crazy thing to anticipate. Refs have been ordered to take the game out of the players hands. Pretty well unwatchable for the full 60 minutes.

What's the most contentious and most "interesting" game thing that is argued about now? Interpretations of pointless and out-of-context statistics.

Arizona is full of NHL players, just bottom-6 NHL players. I've seen them called AHL and ECHL, which their organization is, but not the players.

They will get wins off other good teams during the season.

We played like trash, though, they just aren't a guaranteed win.

Keefe has lost to the two worst teams in the league in the first week.

All that respect he earned last spring is gone.
