Losing aside how did we do in expected goals?

I'll explain why I like expected goals even though you may just say "results" or dismiss them.

The season is long and if we are constantly out-chancing the other team, it is a good sign, we are playing well.

Hockey is not a perfect sport and many times teams get heavily outplayed and win, but over the course of a season or series, if we are constantly driving play and out-chancing the other teams, we "should" win more.

I don't think anyone is taking expected goals as a victory, just that it is showing we are doing things right.

That Arizona d-man dropped his stick so easily .. such a soft call at that point in the game. But "game management".

This isn't the game to blame the loss on calls. The Leafs had plenty of PP chances and did nothing at all with it.

Impossible to do with this generation. If the players don't want to, or don't feel like it, they just don't. What hammer does the coach have?

Well that last PP they scored on was the catalyst to coming back.

But a soft penalty against late in a game isn't something you usually see. Typically d-men at chopping trees out there and that's fine.

Keefe doesn’t sound like a guy with a lot of runway left. The team is unresponsive emotionally and isn’t showing the progression in process. Doesn’t look motivated or organized. And he’s snapping on them. I don’t know that it’s his fault. But I don’t think he has the answers.

Matthews needs to shoot more, hes playing like hes trying to get an Art Ross. Thats not his job, he needs to be our Goal Scorer.

this team hasnt learned much from its prior mistakes unfortunately. i turned off/didnt watch more games last year than any one season since i started watching in the late 80s(even a few playoff games which would have been insane for me up until last year). im not even mad about it anymore lol. when the game is fun i will watch, when they play these types of games i wont. i miss the teams that had players that sounded like they hated to lose, this team usually just gives the same excuses. we will see what happens, but im not optimistic honestly. this team really needs some accountability.

im a big basketball fan too, the raptors even if they arent the most talented team play their asses off every game win or lose, they seem greater than the sum of their parts where the leafs seems lesser than the sum of theirs lol. im super stoked for for the raps this season!

I know you and I are on opposite sides with things like expected goals but how many more years are we going to continue to out chance the other teams and yet still lose so many times. At some point that stat has to stop having any real meaning. If we are in fact out chancing the opposition so often during losses then the make up of this team is simply not good enough to get the job done

Possibly but part of the reason we own the time of possession is our love of passing it around the outside.
