Leafs are 26th in the league for 5 on 5 goals forced

what am I missing? Is this the game plan this season?
They are 4th in the league by points. 9th by points percentage we do have to improve 5 on 5 play though. The game game plan is to get as many points as possible, go into the playoff and go on a deep run.

.904 in the AHL, .889 in the NHL screams adequate #3. You people just expect a #3 to play like a #1 for some reason.
I don't expect a #1, I think Kallgren has done decently in recent games for a 4th stringer

But tonight was awful. He basically faced 0 high danger chances in the third, the Leafs completely locked it down. Despite that, he found a way to ensure we lost

Some people just love to pile on after a Leaf loss, eh?

I'm seeing "they're gonna miss the playoffs" and "this should be enough to clean house" while the Leafs are 3rd in the east and 2nd in their division. Give your heads a shake.

10 wins
5 regulation losses
5 overtime losses

With so much space in OT I don't understand why some of the talented Leaf players don't hold onto the puck and drive the net instead of throwing the puck away leading to goals for the other team...I guess there's no one on this team like McDavid...but I don't think one needs to be like McDavid to drive the net...Matthews has done it before...guys need to drive the net with all that space in OT...what's left to lose? Team is a crappy 1-5 in OT.

They don’t like going to the net because it means giving up the puck on a shot on a rebound play. So they think the smart play is to hold the puck and retreat. But teams also know they’ll retreat so they’re jumping on them to a) pressure a dumb pass b) intercept.

hey Keefe, like 3 on 3 or not you have to work on that shit. You can only call out the players in every f***in press conference, maybe call yourself out and do better. OT is too predictable now.

Cant keep shitting on Kallgren when our "Core" and others keep f***in up around him, hell they f*** up no matter who is in net. This is what we have to deal with cause Douchebag Dufas handcuffed us with $1.25 cap space we have to use cause he sucks at negotiating contracts.

But what is their xgf%.. eventually that becomes reality right?... i kid

But yeah - possession is one thing but i would like to see them transition away from drop backs and laterals.. f*** that shit.. a forward needs to be coming out with a dman and be an outlet with speed

In the o-zone we do NOT have the defence to cycle possession with, adjust and shoot more. If that d is going to rotate down to take the puck to the corner adjust and have a forward cutting to that side and start throwing pucks on net..

You nees to adjust because you dont have the personnel to play this game outaide of four forwards.. everyone else is some combo of not good enough on the wall or not skilled enough in traffic - change this up to create the chaos all while neutering your shitty skating defence a bit more

Kerfoot moves his stick all the time anyway might as well create rebounds and crease chaos so he can go in swinging

On the positive side, the teams missing 2/4 of it's regular top four D and is still playing excellent defensively. As the main goaltending get healthy it'll look even stronger too.

Need more 5v5 scoring now, especially from Matthews and Marner

so agasint the devils the d looks like

Gio Holl
Sandin Lily
Mete Benn

That should be fun..... 😨

I hope they at least spread the shit out

The team didn’t even score until like a full minute after that drop pass was made. We still had enough time to make a whole line change and set up a defensive posture.

We suck at defending in OT point period blank. Like I said before, no stick pressure, they let the winger walk right in off the half wall, and Kallgren has to save that shot.

There’s not that much defense in OT with the way they give up the puck in open ice though. It’s usually a counter rush and you’re already screwed.

10 wins
5 losses
5 ot losses

If the Leafs were 30 wins, 52 OT losses they'd have a presidents trophy.

While they need to do a better job in OT, 3 on 3 has no bearing on playoff success so I don't know why OT losses are seen in the same light as regulation losses to anybody. If they were playing 5 on 5 in OT, then it's a much more interesting topic to discuss.

The same group of players who have been doing this regularly for a while in OT now - they are braindead. Too busy focusing on the cute, highlight reel play.
They're saving it for the playoffs! When they don't bring it during the playoffs either, it's because they're saving it for the summer. Paddle boats, surf ladies in shorts, up and down the coast we coast...Or maybe we just need some perspiration 'cause we're frostbitten Canadian boys...

Send Shelly into the sun. Holy f***. There actually hasn’t been worse goaltender to play for the leafs in the last half century. f***ing Toskala wasn’t this bad.

ohh the competition is fierce in this category my friend.

toskala, raycroft, gustavsson, hutchinson, sparxxy, scrivens, tellqvist (remember that guy??)

Marner on D is such an abomination of an idea. He’s not Fedorov with the wheels to cover all 200 feet with efficiency from there and you’re not really expecting real D from him. You just want the transitional puck carrying. There’s more conventional ways to achieve that.

Yeah it wasn't great my big thing is why are we wasting time with that when we have so many things to work on

without decent 5 on 5 scoring Leafs might as well not even play 1st round and go to their vacations early

I needed this. Good point. Thx

It shouldn’t have got to OT. Leafs dominated, Sorokin was great, and our goalie is pure shit. I posted the Kallgren stats in the pregame thread. And yet, people said he was solid, we left him out to dry blah blah blah…bullshit. He’s a recreation level goalie, a Zamboni level goalie. Put Petruzelli in net, not this sieve.

Meh
On the plus side. I think

10–5-5 in the first 20 considering our top 2 goalies and top 3 D have missed multiple games

I think most would take that.

That being said…. It’s cancernjbg how many games they have lost in the 3rd.

No good.
