It does. Wear and tear. This team should be mentally and physically sharp and bright eyed and bushy tailed with a shorter season with the urge to take on the world. There isn't urgency with this playoff group with too many no shows, a lack of self discipline and with frequent mental lapses. Players arent stepping up when counted upon when it really matters. What does that tell you if two 40 year olds have to step up their game to compensate for a few 20 year old punks? Hopefully that will paint you a better understanding of the psychology and reason behind my madness.
None of that has anything to do with a short season. All the teams played the same season and the playoffs are no different then any other year.

If the Leafs think they played well enough to win, or it was only the start of the game, they are in real trouble.

This team was dominated for the first 55 minutes of the game and just looked plain scared out there. Who is telling them that they played well enough to win or just had a bad start? You judge a team based on how they play 95% of the time - not based on a few minutes of adrenaline rush.

For the record, the answer is 7...
7 times this core has played in an elimination game...
7 times this core has lost and elimination game...
But alas, on Monday we will have a new number... 8!

that’s really an insane stat. If they lose Monday and changes to the core don’t happen. I think I got to move on.

Hilarious how many posts there are about wanting to blow up the team and fire everyone lmao. Are you guys new to sports?

It's going to game 7... the series is not over, so all the negative nancys just relax and meditate or something please.

I don’t know what you’re watching he hasn’t scored in 18 games you got to be a troll go back to the Montreal Board or you need glasses lmao just showing up and collecting $11 million Just doesn’t cut it are you related to Mitch Marner
Quit smoking the drapes man. No way you trade Matthews. What are you thinking

Nah, they were pummelled in the first but after that they weren’t dominated, they just self-destructed again.
Although I don’t know why I’m arguing this point, they lost and it’s unacceptable either way.

No, they probably have been fans of the Leafs longer than you've probably been living. I totally get their frustration levels boiling over to the levels we've seen on here.

This isn't the case of fans overreacting.

Toronto was up 3 games to 1, limited Montreal to 4 goals in 4 games. What does our core group do to put a stranglehold on the series?

Jason Spezza has more goals in this series than our first line COMBINED. He makes peanuts and is playing better than our first line combined. That's fact based on what has happened. This isn't conjecture or people overreacting, the team has been THAT bad.

The offensively challenged offensive blackhole Kerfoot has more points than Marner, more points than Matthews, more points than Hyman.

If you can't see what's wrong, then that's a YOU issue.

It seems this team, or should I say core, wilts under pressure when it matters most.
I’m not even going to mention how well they might fare against a well-rested Jets team. They need to show they can win when it matters most.
If they lose tomorrow night, is there anyone who would still think Dubas and Shanahan should keep their jobs?
We need Matthews and Marner to show us why they’re worth $22 million. And for what it’s worth, Marner is not worth that much anyway.
And the more I think about it, the more I think Keefe is not much different than Babcock. Who in their right mind would have Thornton playing on the first power-play unit, or even still be in the lineup for that matter? And why would you put Foligno, who is not really a centerman and is still not 100%, on that second line instead of leaving it the way it was? They were playing great hockey and at times were carrying the team. And why would you not keep the lines the same in overtime as you had them in the third. When you fought your way back and tied it up? Head scratching to say the least.

I have followed the Leafs since the early 60's and this loss has probably stung the most & while bringing a lot of truths out.

Dubas does not know how to build a team at this level and is too "attached" to his players
Keefe is a junior coach.
Our so called core is "rotten to the core"...Reilly is a brain dead clone of his mentor Phaneuf and has adopted his lazy mannerisms without the booming shot.
Marner is a pouty, spoiled kid who is scared and playing pond hockey.
Matty can't seem to get interested....probably thinking of the Arizona sun.
Nylander, while playing the best of the three can't be relied on from game to game.
And......Tavares should never have been signed. His contract will soon become a boat anchor....This core is soft and gutless. THE most important attribute is having the "will to win" none of these players have it.

We need new management. A fiery, talented coach with a winning record (Gerard Gallant?) and a new core that take up less cap space so we can spread it around.

Careful Geo we are similar in age and I agree with everything you just said 100% (except maybe Tavares). Now a young fella will bring some new stat that you never heard of before and claim everything is going well because Leafs are third in the league in left handed shooters playing on their off wing in odd numbered periods because that leads to success.

I know that my eyes know what compete, physicality, and desire look like and THAT leads to success.

It's not the media, it's this teams heart. Happy to be good, no will to be great.

If anything id say the fanbase and media has been overly kind to a team that hasn't won a first round matchup (here's hoping yet) in 5 seasons.

No the media doesn't pounce all over the narrative at all...

It was more on a technicality. Toffoli went in the crease on his own and Campbell technically couldn't get back into the net to make the save. Had Campbell made a stronger effort, it may look more legitimate.

A risky call but the PK has been very good. Besides the Leafs still got it to OT anyway.

Honestly......putting your hope aside......did you think for a one second that they were going to uphold that challenge?

In that situation, unless you're more than 90% sure you are right, you don't make that challenge. No clear thinking person thought there was a 90% chance of winning that challenge.

HOT Take: If we would have started Andersen in game 4 would we be in this predicament? He has a good record against MTL.

I am not sure about firing shanny,,as best as i can tell he has only made 1 real mistake

choosing dumbass over Lou

Our bottom 6 is just not good enough. Spezza has been a blessing but he is only here for the minimum because his hometown is the only place he is willing to play. Will be difficult to find another one or two such players and it is all due to the flat cap.
