It's kind of interesting what happens to the core 4. How is it that they all have this same personality and just wither in these situations? Matthews cares. Look at his reaction after they finally got past the first round. Look at the reaction of his parents. It's clearly something that eats him up. But, he just doesn't have that second gear and seems to have an issue with conditioning.

Marner, I have always felt looks and plays like a little kid out there. I'm not as surprised that he withers as that's what he has always shown in these playoffs. To be honest I saw him trying to avoid getting hit more than driving play last series as well, but he ended up with great stats somehow. Now this series he has looked worse than he ever has.

Nylander, he has looked dominant with the puck, but man he is all perimeter. He holds onto the puck for so long that he eventually just skates out of the offensive zone without a shot because of how perimeter oriented he is when it's not him trying to split two guys.

Tavares - he reminds me a car that has run out of fuel and is running on fumes every time he's out on the ice. It makes me exhausted watching him try to skate.

I'm enjoying watching people turn on the core especially the overpaid two like the rest of us did years ago.

But tbh for me it was more of a case of never being convinced by Sheldon Keefe, maybe they would've gone further at some point with a proven NHL coach but they've missed the window now.
"Overpaid two"? Which of the three do you think isn't overpaid?

Never going to happen
Probably not but if you can dangle a matthews or marner out there I think a gm will take a closer look. I mean I wouldnt trade Bedard for either of them but someone might right....right?...please

I literally cannot wrap my head around 91 34 and 16 invisible in a must win.

Without hyperbole, can this be rationally explained. Anyone?
Nylander is the best and most consistent player the Leafs have in the last 7 years.

Everyone else?

Yea, JT isn't going anywhere. He's here for 2 more years. Why would he say yes to a trade when his entire family and roots have been laid down here to retire.

ROR is already 32, isn't the fleetest of foot. I can't say I would be thrilled at signing him long term. Also don't think he will stay anyways based on people saying his family is all in St. Louis still.

Matthews, Marner and Nylander I have no idea though. I feel like one probably has to go, just to change something lol.

yup, he just had another baby too.

unfortunately for us every time he bears a child his play goes down significantly. must be the difficulties of pregnancy and whatnot.

I believe the acceptable answer atm is that Samsonov getting hurt cost the team. A gentle insinuation that Woll cost the game should do I think.
Right, it's always the refs, the goaltender, the coach, the GM, Dart Guy, the trainer... anyone but the core.

It has always been the core. Now someone needs to figure out how many of them we keep other than JT, cause he ain't going anywhere.

If we lose one of those 3 for cap reasons and have to put up with 2 more seasons of JT's robotic nice guy get pucks deep and give 110% schtick I will be perturbed.

And I think O'Reilly would be way more interested in staying than going back to that tire fire St Louis squad or go to a new team that he has no passion to play for. I think at a reasonable cape rate he can replace Tavares and be the face off man we can rely on and not have to overuse Kampf.

But this is getting kind of next level. We are still playing this season.

Hopefully it's the last we see of Johnny Toronto. It would be a franchise saving move to restructure our cap for the next two seasons and get rid of the Captain that has led us to horrible loss after loss while he makes a fortune.

I know this doesn't matter anymore, but does anyone find it funny that when Wes McCauley is reffing again we didn't get a single powerplay? That's honestly just too strange considering I don't remember the last time a team didn't get a single powerplay in a game, and Florida definitely had a few blatant holds and trips as well.

Marner also is getting worse at skating. He gets more and more hunched back.

My man, I grew up so far away from Toronto... makes no difference. If you are Leaf fan, the pain is real.

But to your point, I wish I was not a Leafs fan, yes.
Not long home, ready for bed with the tv on and Seattle just scored #6. First thing that came to my mind

I dont think you blow it up, but i dont see how you keep this core together. Im sure itll by Nylander going, but I dont think thats the right call
They’re gonna win the next two to make it complicated Easy. I don’t know yet, I can’t write a post-mortem until the Docs sign off on it, but I agree wouldnt do Willy.
