I'm not in favor of trading Fox, but if he was the main piece of a hypothetical deal for McDavid or MacKinnon, you better believe I'm driving him to the airport. Personally, I would throw Brady T into that group as well, but I'm well aware not everyone here would agree with that, so don't @ me.

Other than a fantasy situation like I outlined above, regardless of what anyone here thinks, the chances are he's not going anywhere.

This Brady T obsession is going completely crazy. He has 44 points in 56 games as a winger and is a minus player. Meanwhile Fox in the worst season of his career since his rookie year as a defenseman has 44 points in 55 games and a +6 on a worse team playing with one of the worst defensemen in the league. But Tkachuk hits and scores around the net and don't forget looks like an ugly tough f***.

So in summary:
- Vesey for a 6th
- Smith for a 3rd
- CK for a 1st and prospect
- Mika to retire
- Fox for a 2nd and a center prospect (would have been a 1st but 4-nations put paid to that)
- kick the tyres on what Miller and Tro may return after their poor showing
- KAM for Zegras
- Laf for a B Tkachuck autographed 4-nations puck and a printout of the whatsapp chat

TDL gonna be fire :naughty:

Anyone with a brain can see that's not happening, ergo, anyone with a brain can see that trading Fox makes no sense at all.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

So if you have a 'brain' why aren't you discerning the difference between what an inept owner is willing to do versus whether or not a trade makes sense from the fans perspective? Fans can absolutely argue that a trade would make sense even if ownership/management is unlikely to make such a trade. A trade being likely versus a trade making sense are clearly not mutually inclusive categories.

It's a hockey forum. Fans are naturally going to voice their opinions on roster management regardless of the behavior of the indept individuals running this organization. To suggest that fans cannot argue in favor of roster moves simply because Dolan/Drury are unlikely to do them is an example of what you call 'playing stupid games'

Which Rangers are playing tomorrow in Buffalo? The game finished around 11:20pm last night. 5:30pm start.

Jones was sent to the AHL for conditioning. He needs to play and teams can look at him with the trade deadline two weeks away. Robertson was recalled. Does Robertson play for Fox? The Rangers can dress 6 D with Robertson.

Three forwards from the U.S. team. Zibanejad has skated on his own. He hasn't skated with the team. He was sick.

Othmann and Berard are still with the team. Edstrom on IR. The Rangers had 22 players on the roster. 13 forwards. 23 player roster. The Rangers have room to add one more forward.

Are the Rangers playing with fewer than 12 forwards? Back to back games. Buffalo didn't have anyone playing in the 4 nations except for Jokiharju who played well for Finland. He will be a free agent this summer. Could be a decent addition for a team. Pittsburgh on Sunday. Rackell missed the U.S. game because he was sick. Crosby isn't playing on Sunday. He could not shoot the puck. He has the elbow injury which forced him to miss the last two Pittsburgh games.

I like Brady. Think Drury will try very hard to acquire him, but I agree with this post 1000%

RB, they have today off. Why would anyone sit?

If the game was today at 5:30, maybe, but a full day between games, no one should need to "rest"

There have been many reports in the Canadian media(mainly EF because he seems to know everything going on) about the players around the league will not play right away for their teams. We will see. Brooks mentioned the quick around a few days ago. The Rangers have three games in 4 days/nights. Add the 4 Nations game, 4 games in 6 days/nights. Not easy.

Andy Strickland thinks Brady is going to the Florida Panthers. Strickland is based in St. Louis. The Tkachuk brothers grew up in St. Louis. Maybe he knows something.

None of them should be sitting. Would be an insult to the fans. They need rest because they tried hard in 4 games over the course of 3 weeks? This isnt the NBA. Kreider and Trocheck didnt play 17 minutes combined last night. the team is off today. Why is anyone resting tomorrow?

EF mentioned all of the American D except for Fox as being standouts in the tournament.

He is reporting Carolina could move Rantanen. They retain 50%. $2.3M. Chicago retained 50%. Talk about a dumb move. Carolina have tried to sign Rantanen to an extension. Carolina traded Necas, Drury, 2nd and 4th to rent Rantanen for one month.

It doesn’t seem Rantanen wants to commit to Carolina right away. The guy was crushed by the trade.

Trading Fox even for Draisaitl doesn't make this team better

Having no defenders capable of producing offense doesn't make this team better
sorry no
at min you have a hole elsewhere, in this case F
you don't want to create a hole on D by dealing Fox, even IF you are filling the other hole.
We get it.
BUT
1) if the value of what you add is greater than what you are giving up, which is yr example, sacrificing an all star excellent bordering superior D for an elite F, then by definition, the team IS better.
2) The bigger picture has more than 1 hole on the team. The situation is not an isolated photo, it's multiple snapshots put together as a video. So you do Fox for Drai. Then to grab a D you do Kakko for Borgen, etc.
3) Strategy must yield to salary cap and the need to recognize energy of youth >>> vets, esp in POs when peeps are tired and most effort is needed.

"Having no defenders" is momentary.

I am fairly certain Drury hands out NMC clauses just so a large portion of the posters on this board can go on a tangent about why they would trade that player. Its like flies to honey. They see that NMC and thats the guy the Rangers need to move. Whats odd is most of the trade proposals center around these players.

Fox's NMC kicks in next year so glad we are getting an early start to things that won't happen.
bold = why we are forced to move IF return is sufficient

remember Trouba had initial period, he could be moved
I said deal for profit
we did not
soon thereafter, we lamented the situation and his nmc

Fox is not Trouba, he will not suffer the same setbacks BUT
BUT
he is already slow and will only get slower

I dont know what to tell you. Other posters can see this and GAP posted a well done breakdown of the analytics showing how Zibanejad has been the best player since the break.

One more time for the ones in the back:
If the season started januari 1st then Zibanejad would be the teams best player according to the analytics.

Either you deal with it or admit you dont believe in advanced stats and then we can place you on the same island as Bern.
The "analytics showing how Zibanejad has been the best player since the break" does NOT show timidity->failure to engage->play proper defense
so even IF there are blips of improvement offensively, there is less than zero defensively.
As others have said, in their op and mine, he is not best on the team since 1/1

Nothing too groundbreaking from Vince here. Rangers will try to thread the needle at the deadline buying and selling. Lindgren, Smith, Vesey, jones non the block. Kreider relationship is strained and a trade will probably ultimately happen but not necessarily in season.

He mentioned a few non-rental targets.

Scott Laughton, who I don't hate as a short term 3C
Ryan O'Reilly and Michael McCarron from NAS (I still prefer Novak to both)
Rickard Rakell & Nick Schmaltz

On D, Oleksiak, Carson Soucy and Mario Ferraro. All would be clear upgrades on Lindgren with manageable cap hits.

So we're back to "threading the needle"...

FML

Welcome to the late 90's fellas. It's going to be a bumpy and fruitless ride with no hope of prospects on the horizon, slim playoff chances, and early exits if they do make it.

I wish 97-04 had some early playoff exits. The dark ages were a far bigger disaster than now

Spoiled and entitled fanbase. No one is owed a Stanley Cup. We should be thankful the team is trying. Look around the Big 4 sports and how many teams are actively trying to win games. It's not the majority. It's barely 25%. I'm happy the Rangers are in that group.

Fox was completely exposed this tournament. He’s small, slow, and weak.

I think I know the answer to this, but have people ever actually watched Soucy and Ferraro play? They're absolutely terrible. Soucy can't handle playing sheltered third pair minutes with Vancouver and we want him playing with Fox.

Oleksiak, on the other hand, would be a good addition. Would have liked him as the guy coming back in the Kakko trade, even if the Rangers had to add more, which they surely would have.

Not a fan at all of Ferraro. Soucy I think can be had cheap and is better than you give him credit for in my limited viewings, but he's not a difference maker.

Oleksiak is a pretty perfect partner for Fox imo. We need a guy who can stand up to physicality and he's been around the block. Been on deep runs with the Penguins and Stars.

I guess where I'm at with many of these names, is, why are they better than just waiting and signing a UFA this summer? Maata would be a low-key really good signing. Jokiharu. Orlov (who I don't expect to get a long-term deal)

Also, looking at AFP's contract projections, Evan Bouchard is projected to get $10.5m. People are complaining about Fox's cap hit?

Luke Hughes on a long term deal is projected to be close to $8.9m. $8.9m!!!!

nobodys complaining about his cap hit.

The list of team USA players who stood out positively was IMO very small. Brady T, Guentzel, Larkin, Werenski, McAvoy. Slavin, Matthews a mixed bag. M Tkachuk incomplete.

It's a short tournament and they played a very defensive style. Known NHL producers like Eichel, Hughes, JT Miller struggled to get offense going. Cale Makar a clear top 3-5 player in the world had one point.

NJD arent giving up on J Hughes after this tournament, nor should the Rangers overreact on Fox. Just my 2 cents.
