Right, it's always the refs, the goaltender, the coach, the GM, Dart Guy, the trainer... anyone but the core.

It has always been the core. Now someone needs to figure out how many of them we keep other than JT, cause he ain't going anywhere.
Well tbh I think the coach definitely is playing a major part and also the gm. Core are a bunch of ridiculously talented but soft tools that could have certainly been utilized better. I doubt the coaches of team Canada, team USA or team Sweden would sit by and let our core players sink them in international play.

It's bizarre. After 7 years of playoff nonsense, they actually played a playoff style game in round 1... and then tossed it out the window and went right back to doing the same shit that didn't work for said 7 years (or 6 or whatever it was).

Clearly this leadership group do not have the mental wherewithal to do what works... consistently.
You look at the Devils and you look at our core. That’s the difference and that’s what piss me off. I don’t think the current Devils team is better than any of our playoffs teams in the past 7 yrs and yet they are playing fearless hockey. When have our boys done that. Trust me they did and everything they did it in the playoffs they won. But they could only do it 4 times in 7 games once.

I know this doesn't matter anymore, but does anyone find it funny that when Wes McCauley is reffing again we didn't get a single powerplay? That's honestly just too strange considering I don't remember the last time a team didn't get a single powerplay in a game, and Florida definitely had a few blatant holds and trips as well.

meh there were penalties on both sides that weren't called.

don't get me wrong, nhl officiating is utter garbage, and so is wes. but i don't think it had any material impact on the outcome tonight.

Tough to put it on the GM imo... maybe he ran it back one too many times, but if you look at the players, they are great. Just incapable in crunch time. I think that has to be clear to everyone now.

The coach for sure, more and more plays into it. From the general possession game plan to the in game adjustments or lack thereof. I feel the core has f***ed him over though too... they are pretty much useless in critical moments... coach cannot control that other than mixing up the lines.

I guess, hard to say if the core would have performed differently under a different coach. Maybe that is what we see next season? Could you imagine... running it back with Joel Q behind the bench? ha ha

I literally cannot wrap my head around 91 34 and 16 invisible in a must win.

Without hyperbole, can this be rationally explained. Anyone?
its simple

they CAN win, they just don't WANT to win. The trophy isn't worth the pain to them. Literally. Beating up their bodies and the mental distress that comes with winning a cup isn't worth it to a LOT of players, not just these guys. They already got paid.

Just look at how they've "played" in this series. It's not a joke it's not your imagination it's not being pessimistic, it's just that they aren't playing to win anything here. These guys can EASILY go deep, real deep with the talent they have there. They're just not interested.

Lose Wednesday and then on Thursday they can get the f* outta here and get their summers started. Screw the trophy. Screw the media. And we not getting paid, either? F* that lol.

THAT'S what's going on.

Nothing to do with a lack of talent or ability to win it all.

It's just that this current combo of players does not care whether they win or not, and they are playing exactly like it.

REMINDER:

Matthews, Marner, Nylander NTCs kick in on July 1st.

Need to move fast. Gotta go get a new GM ASAP.
I think that is part of the issue here... with only less than 2 months to go until those kick in, how does a new GM come in and make assessments on how to manage that? Unless they are given clear instruction from ownership, in which case I would not want to be a puppet GM.

It's kinda f***ed... Dubas is in the best position to manage this, but, not sure he would be willing to make the moves we all see now as necessary.

The team kinda screwed themselves by not having the GM locked up to make such important decisions this summer. Regardless if that was Kyle or someone else, that should have been dealt with BEFORE this season started.

That is why I feel like Dubas comes back on a 2 year extension...

Absolutely zero accountability in the post game interview.

Not sure why I expected anything less. Disgusting group of players. All the talent in the world, but that only gets you so far.
They really are the most unlikeable group of players. I even liked the Kessel era Leafs more than this. Straight up I liked someone like Mikhail Grabovski who gave it his all way more as a competitor and person than I ever have Mitch Marner or even Matthews.

I'm just holding out hope we don't get swept at this point

There's no saving this, our big boys have proven what they are and always will be

Get rid of the management that put together this bunch of entitled losers then start getting rid of players

They can all go, I don't give a stuff about any of these heartless wimps

I'm not advocating either way, but he's owed 8 mill/year in real money for 2 more years. If I'm a bottom team with capspace and on the rise I would be over the moon to add Tavares for free for 2 years. You either move on when you have to give other guys new contracts or re-up him for cheaper.

He's definitely not on a value contract, but he's still a #1C.

Imagine CBJ adding a #1C for free? They haven't been able to get one in forever. You're telling me they wouldn't take him for free or even pay to get him?
Are you talking about a #1C or Tavares?

Nylander only one who bothered showing up.

Matthews had a 12 game point streak so it was due to end but he still could have been more of a factor.

If the big guys had lived up to their end of the bargain the Leafs are up 3-0.

2 goals every game from the depth. Thay ahould be more than enough if the top 6 did anything
1st bolded I agree to an extent but still....3gms 0gls
2nd bolded Isnt that what we say every year?

To be honest, I didn't watch a single full regular season hockey game this year. The Leafs doing this again in the playoffs and the crookedness of Bettman is probably going to turn me off hockey completely. It's too much of a waste of time and I cheer for all 3 major Toronto sports teams.

The fact that I'm pretty convinced Bettman sabotages the league to favour American teams turned me off more than the Leafs sucking and now coming back for the playoffs, nothing has changed that. This scheduling thing doesn't surprise me at all. The lack of disrespect you must have to Canada hockey to not have the Leafs play on a Saturday night and then give the Leafs McCauley when there's a clear conflict of interest. These things just show how bad the Leafs have it with the League. They leech off them and then give them the finger. Low and behold, first time the Leafs don't get a PP in a game. All these things are not coincidences.
It’s all Bettman’s and the refs fault.
