Not much left to say. Goaltender leaked a bad goal (Acciari), defence with another gift (Brodie), coach who can’t coach, 2 $11 million players playing like $2 million players, and a defensive zone specialist who can’t win face offs (Kampf). Add to that a lack of consistent 60 minute effort and there you go.

Matthews and Marner are not learning that you have to be engaged every time you’re on the ice. Their lack of focus and effort shows a disrespect to their fans given what they’re earning. Best players on the ice with consistent effort were Knies and Robertson.

Marner is such an over-coddled finger painter. Cannot hold him accountable for anything.

$11M players going MIA for large portions of the season has become the normal. The culture of the organization just allows it.

if we had a real coach Marner's ass gets put on the 4th line to send a message but we don't have a proper coach -

Correct, this year, Matthews > McDavid.

They also have the same amount of Harts/Lindsays in the last 2 years.

People act like Matthews is some slouch... he was injured last year, this year is not playing great but is still contending for the rocket so far.
I think that he's injured once again. He can't shoot. He can't pass. He can't stickhandle. If in fact he is, this is becoming a serious problem.

Pretty sure Marner spent more time wedding planning this summer than hitting the gym.

Omfg does he ever look weak out there this season. f***ing pathetic how weak he is on the puck.

He looks dynamite every few shifts like his little inside outside move vs Chicago before almost scoring on Soderblom. Think he’s just mentally checked out and playing sloppy. Why does it have to be an injury.

Some context for this tweet

Jon Cooper had benched Stamkos/Kucherov/Point for an entire period b/c they sucked ass

Bednar benched Mack and Rantanen when they sucked

Trotz benched Ovi when he sucked

but of course Keefe is above them all isn't it?

The difference really is hockey culture

Those organizations expect greatness and take nothing less.

We're participation trophy organization. Keefe basically just says that Marner laces up his skates and that's good enough.

Just a guess. And the fact that everything that he does well requires strength. And from what I see, he has none right now. He's hurt. It's all being hush hush for now. Not the first time.

I"m honestly sick of the injury excuse.

Matthews has been doing this whole going MIA for 20 games at a time thing since his second year in the league. At the time I thought it was a Babcock issue but we know too much now - it's just not. He just doesn't care enough.

It's just telling who runs the team. Marner and Matthews do. Keefe is just there to make facial expressions and seem puzzled and not rock the boat. Anyone with a brain would have fired him a long time ago. Once again, Toronto has a stooge running the show.

for every game he is benched, marner will increase his contract demand by another 500k per year

given his decision making with the puck, i wonder if it's maybe a severe concussion

shanahan has to go. o reilly knew the culture here was too woke- they will never win anything- marner has to go, get 2 solid d men, need a decent goalie. am needs to earn his paycheck. soft forwards as well- what a mess. all the guys they got at the deadline they shoulve kept- traded mm for a #1 dman or a #2 dman and good goalie.

Past 5 games:

Nylander 3G 6P - Nothing last two games but he’s been on one all year so he gets slack.

Tavares 1G 5P - Would like more goals but he’s still Mr. Consistent and unlike M&M his points are spread out well so far this season, ie. no massive stat padding games to make himself look better and he’s only got one stretch of three games without a point.

Matthews 1G 2P - Inexcusable. Zero reason for him to not have chewed up Detroit and Chicago at least. Matthews has two 3 game stretches with no points so far this season.

Marner 0G 3P - Looks lost out there. Overall stats are buoyed by two monster 4 point games back to back against Buffalo and Tampa.

Two of our main four forwards are pulling their weight, while the other two are out there doing cardio. Even more concerning is the defensive play of M&M, which in years past has usually been great but this year they’ve been bad.

And no blame should be put on Knies for that lines piss poor play. Knies is a 21 year old rookie, he should be being carried by two veteran “superstars” who’ve been first team all-stars and one of whom has won serious individual hardware. Hell Knies has three goals in his last five games but Marner only assisted on one of those and Matthews not at all.

The one game I REALLY didn’t want them to lose.

Now The Dubasites are going to be out in full force tonight with their “Dubas > Treliving” takes and we’re never going to hear the end of it.
Similer to last season though it wasn't Dubas dabs whining after every loss - it was his detractors.

Man is this team weird

Earlier on in the season the only guys that could score were the big 4 and we couldn't buy a point from the bottom 6 now the 2nd and 3rd lines look strong but our top line has disappeared completely

The defense was so bad early you could have got a peewee team and they would have scored on them, things are better but they are still making one or two horrific mistakes every night which is leading to goals against

Also our goaltending is wildly inconsistent from game to game, who knows what we're going to get

We just aren't playing well, our results are pretty good but I'm concerned if we don't clean our game up we're going to go into a slide that's going to take some getting out of

Pretty solid game by both teams. Just couldn't put it past Jarry.

On to the next.

The reactionary stuff on here is so wild. I love all of our fans and their contributions, but people are WHACKED in the moment. We are still in a great spot considering we haven't been great. People post like we're dead last. The Devils were supposed to roll the east pre-season according to pundits and they are 500. Let's all just take a deep breath and let the season unfold. I think as we stand today, we are the same as previous years, maybe a worse regular season; but maybe win a round. That's not OK with me but let's enjoy the games and not be angry because we lose We could have easily won tonight. Tons of time for different things to play out, trades, players picking it up etc.

We always play up to the top teams and down to the weaker. That's because our top guys don't have high motors. You can win with that, but you need a tight defensive system and goaltending to be much better to average.

Appearances can be deceiving.

You’re never as good as you look when winning. But you always look as bad as you do when losing. And Leafs looked real bad while losing last night.

Almost as bad as I look to my mom who once had high expectations for me too.

The Leafs just lost to a bunch of old men. Their record is 10-9. It's after American Thanksgiving and the team isn't even in a playoffs spot.

But of course we're all overreacting.

It's like the team passes gas and we get the blame. They tell us it's our fault for not recognizing the stink isn't as bad as it smells at the time. While not acknowledging the fact that it still stinks.

Lies sound like facts to those who have been conditioned to mis-recognize the truth.
