Imagine a team whose captain with the best leadership over the last 15 years is Dion Phaneuf...
Yeah, Matthews will get a team TO the playoffs. Barkov and Eichel will get their team THROUGH them.and yet he will still place behind Matthews when its all said it done, your one of the odd ones that would.
Barkov has a better argument than Eichel does. its funny how opinions change on a player so quickly, when Eichel was in Buffalo things were much different on him. truth is Vegas have had better overall teams.
Matthews has 150+ more goals than Eichel,
100+ goals more than Barkov and around 70 less points with 150+ less games played
also with less time in the league he has more awards than both Eichel and Barkov combined.
Im sorry but they arent better than Matthews and when its all said and done they will likely both finish behind Matthews.
winning 1 cup doesnt exceed less goals, points and awards
you can apply how Im talking to any player across all sports not just Matthews. sure there's a limit to it but you dont rank a player on one thing alone. and more have agreed with me that if you could add him you would than have disagreed
things change quickly. this could be a Leafs problem more than a Matthews issue. what if after this contract Matthews signs somewhere else and wins a cup later in his career? he still has plenty of time left in his career. I dont think he will ever win in Toronto but that doesnt mean he's not a great player
look how everyone viewed Eichel through his time in Buffalo.
He’s earned itnice! another shit on matthews thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eichel was viewed as a player that cant get the job done in Buffalo lol. crazy how being on a better team works out. teams Leafs have lost to have gone to the cup finals like 80% of the time. sure they deserve shit losing the way but Eichel and Barkov are still a tier behind him, dont care what you say.Yeah, Matthews will get a team TO the playoffs. Barkov and Eichel will get their team THROUGH them.
And isn't the most important award of all in team sports a championship? Matthews team has stars up the wazoo and yet the only way anyone outside Toronto will remember them is as a giant underachieving joke.
Every team litterally dreams of encountering Matthews Leafs in the first round.
fans opinions dont matter, you look at everything throughout a players career, sure if he never wins anything it will take a hit on his overall placement but there are more things to consider. if OV never won a cup it would have hurt him but he would still find his place pretty high up anywaysIf, after this contract, Matthews signs elsewhere and shows that he can actually perform in the playoffs, then maybe opinions will change. Until that actually happens, he's not really the kind of guy you want on your team if you want to win the Cup.
What makes a better team though? If you can't count on your "legendary superstar" to turn it up when it matters and win some important games, how legendary are they really?Eichel was viewed as a player that cant get the job done in Buffalo lol. crazy how being on a better team works out. teams Leafs have lost to have gone to the cup finals like 80% of the time. sure they deserve shit losing the way but Eichel and Barkov are still a tier behind him, dont care what you say.
winning a cup isnt a end all conversation.

Facts are factsI think Patrik Laine is 7-3 in winner takes all matches. Thats better than Matthews. Note: I am not saying Laine is currently better than Matthews.

playing great teams and low scoring series. Leafs should have won a few more but either way just because teams have lack of success it doesnt take away how great players are. truth is majority of the series they have played in leafs have been the under dogs. doesnt help they fumbled when they were the favorites as well though. What makes a better team though? If you can't count on your "legendary superstar" to turn it up when it matters and win some important games, how legendary are they really?
It's not just the cups. Ovi carried the Caps on his back for a lot of playoff runs while Auston takes a back seat.
How do you explain your >13m$/yr leader and superstar who's supposedly sitting on top of the league not even being ppg in the post season?
And what do you mean better team? The Leafs have 4 players making more money than anyone on the Knights, including Eichel. Aren't they supposedly elite?
our opinions dont matter we're just fans. maybe your personal list will be different but that doesnt mean your more right than someone else. would need to see a consensus list based off many people. If fan opinions don't matter, why are you here arguing with other fans about your opinions?
There's also no such thing as "his overall placement". Every single list you see comparing players is someone's opinion, not an objective measurement.
twice is a coincidence, 3 times is a trend. Not really lol. Everyone makes threads for the milestones their players hit; not ever team has a handful of obsessed lunatics salivating at their failures. At any rate, there are more threads like this than like that.
You are feeding the trolls unfortunately. Some people are so attention starved that they need a circle jerk thread about how bad the Leafs are every day, sometimes twice a day. They are only happy if they make Leaf fans unhappy. Normal guys.playing great teams and low scoring series. Leafs just find ways to lose I dunno what to tell you but even if Leafs have never made playoffs Matthews would still be in a higher tier of a player, no success will for sure hurt his overall legacy but he will still be pretty high up when his career is over. likely higher than guys like ROR, Eichel and Barkov.
people made ROR out to be a massive game changer too a proven winner. well changed nothing with his time in Toronto.
our opinions dont matter we're just fans. maybe your personal list will be different but that doesnt mean your more right than someone else. would need to see a consensus list based off many people.
fans are biased and let things get in the way like depending if a player plays for a team they dislike or if they dislike a player in general.
The fact that we're talking about teams taking Matthews for free says it all.almost missed this one so many notifications popping lol
with the cap going up as much as it will be you really shouldnt over think that anyways. sure some teams cap strapped cant fit him because of cap issues but if there were no issues and you could just add him 10/10 would 100% I mean if u really wanna break it down team by team its just not possible
lets just say you get Matthews and you send over what you need to make it work. forget about value and if Toronto would accept it. would you add Matthews?
yeah, maybe I should just stop. I enjoy the argument but its going in circlesYou are feeding the trolls unfortunately. were not talking about teams taking him for free, people are so caught up thinking its too hard to fit him, but thats not the point. if you could just easily add him say signing as a UFA. most would do it. sure realistically some teams couldnt do it because not enough cap but I think a higher percentage of teams would sign him over choosing not to, and the teams that couldnt do it they would wish they could just add MatthewsThe fact that we're talking about teams taking Matthews for free says it all.
Matthews has painted himself into this corner by demanding he get paid like McDrai while playing closer to Kessel is his own doing, if he was more reasonable about taking less money because he needs more help, he wouldn't be in this spot. Again, his own doing.
There's nothing to defend, he's a great season player who turns into a barely top 30 player come playoff time.
What does the former matter if it doesn't result in the latter? You could be the most physically talented player in the world, but if it doesn't translate to actual results in the playoffs, then how does that make someone more desirable to have than someone with "less talent" but who actually produces when it counts?yet when their careers are over Eichel will still be ranked behind Matthews. you wouldn't even draft Eichel over Matthews in fantasy leagues. Im sorry if you dislike it but Matthews is the more elite talent no matter the playoff numbers.
Get Matthews off the Leafs and I bet the playoff record improves. What does the former matter if it doesn't result in the latter? Hey we're just discussing here i believe i'm right you believe you are it's ok lol.playing great teams and low scoring series. well Id be willing to put money down on a consensus list more people would think Matthews is the more talented player. until then we can just agree to disagree. I think there's more to ranking players just going off of just one thing. and considering one will likely have more goals, points and awards but just less playoff success it will still count for something,What does the former matter if it doesn't result in the latter? I dont think any player finds success in Toronto. been a trend for a very long time, players find ways to win once they leave the Leafs. 20+ years of loser mentality. they could roster Team Canada and still loseHey we're just discussing here i believe i'm right you believe you are it's ok lol.
It's the battles that makes the general. Matthews narrative is his to change at this point and he still has plenty of time to do so. There's something to be said about consistantly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
I'm talking about Matthews' production in the playoffs, not his lack of Cups.well Id be willing to put money down on a consensus list more people would think Matthews is the more talented player. until then we can just agree to disagree. till then I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree.
