Can someone explain exactly what Ritchie does out there? I get that 2mil for a bulldozer is bad cap management but , wouldn't that be better than what we are getting now? Nick do this for us please, just go out there for one game and run over one guy every shift, just one guy, don't goon the guy, do every thing legal but for the love of god use that big body to inflict some pain. This does 2 things if you are hitting, you are keeping the other team honest and if you are hitting you are not handling the puck.

Who comes out of the lineup first Engval or Ritchie?

If this loss is Richies fault (even if he is the suckiest sucker that ever sucked) we are in big trouble. We should be able to win even if we took a random nobody from the stands and switched with one of the no impact depth players.
Fair enough but with the current team construction leafs can't afford a 2.5 mil replacement level player. Even Engvall at 1.25 needs to show he's worth two league min contracts. Holl is sitting in the press box making 2M so that's not a great use of resources.

If there's any hope for this experiment to work Dubas really needs to maximize depth spending.

Maybe the game that impacts the bottom 6?

Shirley could probably contribute as much.

Looking on the bright side, this is probably motivation for the prospects? There are openings!

Scoring will be a problem for this team.

Scoring will not be a problem for the four highest paid forwards, but the rest of the forwards will struggle mightily to score.

The current Leafs team is very easy to defend against.

They break out the same way, which is methodical allowing the other team to get organized to defend.

Then the Leafs won't fore-check.

If there is any sustained pressure by the Leafs in the offensive zone, usually it is always on the perimeter, and they can generate a shot, but no rebounds, because no one is in front of the net.

Half the goals scored in the league are garbage goals. Management and the coach do not believe in that, they insist on proving their methods.

Very dull hockey game tonight.
100% correct!

Both

Game was over after 1st shift. Kings took it to them and leafs mailed it in. Kudos to Keefe for calling them out for their slow starts. Team that beat Bruins gives the fans hope last night's team takes it away.

Posted this in the pregame thread

Potentially one of those games.

They are at home against a weaker opponent at the end of a home stand. Also, they are on a 5 game winning streak with two recent big wins.

Do they keep their foot on the gas pedal, or have they started reading their own press about how they've "turned things around" and lay an egg on a Monday night game.

Place your bets.

They keep forgetting what makes them successful once they have a bit of success.....still immature.

Kerry Fraser and the Kings jobbed us in 93 and Peja in 02 and last night it was Dana Wheaton and the situation room. Suck my get over it I had money on the board too : )

Nah, Danault turned his blade over and dragged that puck in on the second touch, but there was no distinct kicking motion apart from the initial save Soupy made on the first blatant kick to his pad.

Let's not be like some of the other fanbases who whine about reffing to excuse a bad loss as they just wanted it more than us last night.

But yeah, Fraser did job us 28 years ago! lol

I attended a game at the Gardens that year too. It was a fine year to hear Gilmour cat called from the upper bowl by Guns and Roses fans with their boyfriends.

No depth or scoring after the first 2 lines…..

Prognosticators, skeptics and visionaries alike will continue to beat this same drum that its difficult to win consistently with 1/2 you cap tied up in just 4 forwards, because you can't build a successful team around no secondary scoring.

When the core 4 are going great Leafs have a chance at winning, but if the other team holds them in check or plays them even the Leafs are more likely than not to lose the game because of their lack of offense from anyone outside those core 4.

Trying to win, particularly trying to win 16 playoff games to hoist a Cup is not great odds because always getting key scoring from your core 4 is not sustainable.

Leafs are built to win or die by their core 4.

The depth on this team is putrid. They are completely dependent on the big 4 and when they don't show up its chaos. Such a flawed team.

it could have even have been a win pretty easily. The concern for me isn't the score, but how the Leafs have to pretty much dominate a game to have a chance at winning. If they let their guard down for even a second, they'll get destroyed. I just don't know how sustainable it is for the team to put together mostly perfect games from here on out

Sometimes I see the Leafs dominate the offensive zone and wish they would spend more time dropping the shoulder, crashing the net and get some chaos going than their soccer possession mentality. Circle the zone, little drop passes at the line and then spam some shots.

There hasn't been hunger in that locker room since 93 and I can't remember a time in my life where we had solid team D. No skilled grit in the top 6 since Clark and no team D equals disappointment decade after decade.
