Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 1-5 to the LA.Kings. Another great game by Ritchie

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
I am so glad that we know Ritchie was the cause of this laughable loss. Let's pile on Ritchie so Reilly, MM, etc can go out to dinner and be cheered when they enter the restaurant

Seems like such an easy fix. just get rid of all those guys costing us games.

Get rid of the bottom 6 and subpar D.
= winning then. Nothing to stop us.

Not sure if true but I heard that line has not given up a 5v5 goal. Very impressive. However when your top 2 lines get shutdown by Kopitar and Daneault, would be nice if somebody from the bottom 6 could score a goal or draw some penalties.
I hope this team finally breaks through and wins at least a few rounds. But if they crash and burn yet again, Dubas has to go and something done with the core in order to better balance the lineup.

At 5 on 5 Kampf was on ice for 6 goals against while on the ice for 2 goals for. People are spinning his stats recently it seems

The zone start stats people have been posting recently are extremely misleading so I wouldn't say he has done amazing.

Let's look:
Offensive zone starts: 4
Neutral zone starts: 39
Defensive zone starts: 38
On the fly starts: 131

So he, like all players, start the vast majority of their starts on the fly.

Natural stat differentiate between starts and faceoffs:
Offensive faceoffs: 10
Neutral faceoffs: 51
Defensive faceoffs: 67

He definitely sees lots of defensive zone faceoffs/starts but he sees an equal amount of neutral zone faceoffs/starts and both are dwarfed by his on the fly starts. As a result he isn't starting in the defensive zone 90% of the time like people are saying. That ignores neuteal zone and on the fly starts which are critical

The Engvall - Kampf - Kase line has 1 5-on-5 GA, a 58.2 SF% and a 56.3 CF% despite their tough defensive usage. Yes, D zone starts are a bit misleading, but the % of goals off an offensive zone face off are disproportionately higher as well, so it’s not something that can just be ignored.

It's way too early to talk about winning rounds when it's only November.

Leafs should essentially dress just 4 forwards for offense = 1/2 their salary cap, and their defense core and goalie to prevent goals against.

Because that is essentially what they have been doing this season particularly the last 7 games.

The main purpose of the other 8 forwards dressed is simply to give the core 4 a breather once in a while as the last 14 goals have all come from the core 4 and only the core 4. :wg:

It’s just one bad game after a good run but the bottom of the line up has not provided much offense. even during the win streak that was the case.

Lots of time to fix that but could be a bit concernining in the playoffs if the top 6 get shut down.

Pissed I had to miss the game because of work; worth re-watching or was this another rough one to sit through?

Not even close to being worth watching.

They played with as much energy as they did in game 7 vs the Habs last year and game 5 vs Columbus the year before.

Kampf individual stats for goals for vs goals against is 6 goals against and 2 goals for, also a lower SF% at 52% and 52% CF. His lower 47.5 HDCF% seems to indicate he is tilting the ice generally but giving up bigger chances than he is getting hence the more actual goals against than goals for. That fits the eye test too.

Definitely can't ignore it and it does have some impact especially in more extreme cases like Kampf. However his lack of offense talent is probably hindering the production of his linemates too and that isn't helping the leafs depth scoring. He is likely more suited as a 4th liner.

He's a 26 year old making $1.5M, what are the expectations?

That was my original point, that the leafs bottom 6 shouldn't be expected to produce much as they aren't paid much and it somehow morphed until this point lol

Hot take: LA Kings will make the playoffs this year and will be a cup contender next year.

I was looking at their full line-up (and in the system) today and was blown away. I forgot how many great players they have.

You have your vet guys like:
Quick
Doughty
Maata
Kopitar

Players hitting their prime:
Iafallo
Kempe

Really good acquisitions:
Athanasiou
Danault

....and then a boatload of young players and prospects:
Byfield
Clague
Vilardi
Kupari
Bjornfoot
Turcotte
Kaliyev

....and a bunch of other prospects and players i didn't mention.

This is a well-balanced, solid roster. I'm not that embarrased losing to them.

Yes, it's funny how some fans believe that these low cost journeymen are somehow going to become 20 goal scorers in Toronto.
