The big 4 cost us any depth we could have. Can you imagine how good we could have been with Brown and Hyman to balance the lineup?

Just an unfortunate situation to be honest where you can see teams like Carolina, Tampa and Florida all built on depth. I can honestly say that if you game plan to shut down our top two lines, we will lose more than we win.

I'm assuming the Leafs go back to their typical top 4 and keep the rookie 3rd pair for next game.

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl

I don't necessarily agree with it, but I don't think Brodie or Muzzin have been close to their peak levels so far this year so they might as well try what worked last year again and shelter the 3rd pairing less.

Muzzin showed some flashes of his game I thought, but an overall poor night... I think he's getting there though.

don't even need to shut down 2 lines most of the time only 1 of them is contributing

tonight for example the matthews line sucked, which is becoming more often the case than not these days

We definitely got outgoalied tonight, Leafs missed a ton of good chances/Quick made a lot of good saves, and this was Campbells worst game of the season. Need to bounce back next game; depth needs to start contributing or start throwing in top Marlies players and see if any can stick.

Don't know your definition of getting goalied but I wouldn't call tonight getting goalied.

Check out the Panthers Rags box score

Engvall has physical gifts and talents but his drive and IQ are both so poor

He seems more motivated to do a curl at our blue line than go and chase after the puck along the boards

Super casual with the puck and very happy to try and skate the puck in on the rush when he doesn't have the right lane to get a clean entry

He's a NHL'er but he's not a smart or hardworking guy. If he had even one of the two then he'd be a quality 3rd liner.

Ritchie is simply to lazy and dumb to even worth having any hope for.

Engval/mikheyev when he's back/Ritchie/Kerfoot(though he's a bit better this year) are all very frustrating offensive players

I'm a huge Brown fan from thr start of his OHL career, but he was shipped off because he wasn't wasn't enough for our top 9 at the time... not because of the big 4.

Isn’t this 47 experiment over yet ?
Enough already

Due for a loss. A couple of points:

Danault has become the Leafs cryptonite and it’s great he went over to the West.

Spezza has gone silent and it is in conjunction with inheriting Ritchie on his line. Honesty just send Ritchie to the Marlies and cut your losses. Nobody is picking him up off waivers. The team will be better for it.

I don't know. 7-5-1 before this game wasn't really an impressive record to begin with. This Leafs team just aren't that good.
That’s the thing people have to put into context. Of the 7 leaf wins, 6 I repeat 6 have come against teams that are currently not in a playoff spot. There schedule has been extremely favourable, and still have a mediocre record of 7-5-1. The leafs are not making the playoffs for 2 reasons, 1) they don’t have a reliable back up goalie. How did dubas think injury prone mrazek would be a good choice. Ridiculous mismanagement. 2) zero depth scoring. The core 4 of scored the last 13 leaf goals, not sustainable. Be worried my friends.

With how the bottom 6 hasn't been scoring, I guess this is the perfect time to insert Semyonov into the line-up.

Its funny to me that our "expensive" depth options (Ritchie & Engvall) have been significantly worse than our budget players (Spezza, Kase, Bunting). I was expecting it (as were most fans), but still funny considering how everybody complains that our bargain bin league minimum players won't work.
Ritchie 13 gms 1pt -4
Kase 13 gms 2pts -4
Kampf 13 gms 1 pt -5
Engval 13 gms 3pts -2

ugly no matter how you look at it

Is outgoalied the new code word for outplayed?

How can people say we played well? The core 4 started on snooze control, the defence were walked consistently, black holes on the third and fourth lines, and Campbell had a poor game. Several changes should be made starting with Ritchie and Engvall.

Until Mikayev comes back, our best lineup has Semyanov and one of Anderson/Ho Sang in it. Ritchie should not be playing.

I might sound crazy for saying this but I think at this point Ho-Sang is probably better then Simmonds. At least better then Ritchie.

Why didn't you post during the 5 game streak? We know the intentions of users who do only come during bad times. They are not actually fans. Be worried everytime they do well my friends.

That's where the coach needs to adjust by moving someone like Nylander to the 3rd line so he can carry his own line and dominate lesser competition.

7-4-1 actually before the game but nice try. Boston is 5-4-0. This Boston team just ain't that good.
