I'm not suggesting I want it to end as I enjoy a good story and active record, so I'm always hoping each game that Marner keeps building history. Much like Matthews pursuit of 60 last year however, I feel individual pursuits, conscious or not; can impact the goal of the team.

It can invite bad habits when his teammates know he is on a record hunt.

Tonight for instance, I saw Marner hold the puck in some spots he should just dump it in. He was not doing this much this year but he did tonight and it ended in plays the other way. Staying in character all season with an eye on the playoffs is more important than ANY individual record.

Keep the streak going but remain loyal to the process that will hopefully pay dividends this postseason.

Sutter should tell his team to control their sticks. 7 penalties last night and now 7 more tonight including 3 high-sticks (plus another one missed when Malgin got cut)
I imagine he’s referring to non calls on the Leafs not calls against his team.

Really encouraging, even when nowhere near at their best none of the sleep walking we saw so much over the last couple of years and to start this year, the big money boys have bought in are routinely proactive in their own end and not out cherry picking for odd man rushes, and my god Gio has made Holl a friggin asset

Gio is a legend...best contract in this league atm.

to be fair, most long winning streaks see bad habits creep in and are often followed by a stretch of bad play.

That’s one way to win OT - thanks Huby! Fun game :) Willie, AM and Mitch were all filthy, especially Willie. This team has been so good since a slow start, you love to see it.

Game should never have gotten to OT.
Really thought they were ending it on one of those late PPs.
True. But Valar or whatever his name is, played well in goal for the Flames down the stretch. Even that Willie goal is one that he had no chance due to hitting off Tanev.

Spot on. It was something he had been avoiding for the most part until tonight. Will be interesting to see how he plays on Tuesday. Settle back in, or start playing with the puck too much.

Normally, this next game would be a loss in my mind... but, considering they owe ANA an actual effort, it might be another dirty win.

cheers sir! i always like playing the jets, super fun games. and i much prefer you guys make the playoffs than the oilers lol. good luck this year

also, im jelly over helly not gonna lie.

Cheers right back. If you guys get the Murray who won back to back Stanley Cups, he will be very hard to beat in the playoffs. Yeah games between Jets and Leafs are always intense, let's just see our teams beat up some American teams as it seems like it's always us against the world since 93.

Timmins has been a good surprise.
Simmonds is done, definitely need a replacement for him, somebody gritty and tough but can handle a puck at least.
Anderson got better as the game went on which is encouraging.
Marner silly turnovers tonight, yes he won the game but he needs to clean up that type of play.

i have been hard on JT the past few years, with good reason imo. but hes been good this year, turning the puck over WAY less and on pace for 40 goals and about a point per game which is what JT has always been around. also, this team has been top 5ish in goals the past 3 years, but we are like 21st in goals for this year, points have been down for everyone besides willy, including marner and matthews.
He had 31 points through 28 games last year, finished under ppg... he starts off hot and slows down. And the fact that he's playing with Marner now and still doing this should speak volumes. His first year as a Leaf with Marner he never did this.

Leaf fans really need to stop making excuses for an $11 million per year C. He was a ppg center on the Isles devoid of any talent and has pretty much been at best the same if not worse with significantly better forwards supporting him.

Tavares is nowhere near an $11 million/year player. Think about how different this offence would look if you replaced him with a similar highly paid player like Panarin, Kane or Eichel. Those guys produce no matter what.

I didn’t realize this is what happened when Matthews got high-sticked. This f***ing league man.

I have no idea who that person is, but he's completely wrong.

The ref was not signalling any penalty, let alone matching ones, on Bunting and Lindholm.

Watch the replay and listen to the penalty calls. First penalty (on Hanifin) is four minutes for the high stick. Second penalty (on Bunting) was roughing, which occurred after the whistle. (Hanifin was signalling that the high stick was a follow through, which is likely the reason for the review.)

Found a way to win but Tavares has got to be better. Playing with Marner full time again since his first Leaf season and he's got 2 points in his last 7 games, below ppg again. And it's not like Marner isn't producing... For $11 million that's not acceptable.

They need him at his best to go deep. Did he come here to be the star he is or just coast to barely ppg?
yeah for sure, II was thnking about that, it wouldn't be a good idea to trade him atm we probably wouldn't get much for a ppg guy I mean who needs that?:bb:
He has 3 points in his last 7 games. He had an assist on that Marner goal because he won the draw. So he is still at a PPG.

He is also over 70% on faceoffs in the last 7 games and has had a lot of "3rd assist" moments, so I am not really worried about a few games without points.
Wow maybe we should tell that other guy above how many like prety ok assets we could get for him when he's producing like that under the radar and is probably top 5 in draws in the league
The players mostly hate our media... The fans mostly hate our media. Who likes these guys?
The players are baffled by the whole thing, LeaFland itself beats all these weird little and mostly off the mark narratives to death that are generally hyper critical of the team and/or players, that are then re-formulated by the media which actually print and embellish some misguided notions they see on the chat sites.

He was also on the ice and doing nothing on both the 5-on-5 goals by Calgary, and coughed up the puck in the slot which almost cost us another.

He won the draw at the end, so he picked up an assist, but he has just one ES point in his last seven games, and only 13 all season.

You think teams are lining up for a $11 million/yr 32 year old center barely at ppg playing with MITCH MARNER? And on a powerplay with Matthews, Marner and Nylander? LMAO He had 31 points after 28 games last year with Nylander, he's exactly ppg this year after 28 games getting Marner back. It's pathetic the amount of leeway he gets.

The amount of teams that can supply that kind of firepower and have the room to support Tavares' cap hit are non-existent. Don't act like he would be ppg on the Habs or Sens.
