Post-Game Talk: Leafs in OT 5-4 (Yes, OT you read that right)

Montreal did that in an 80 game season, without the added benefit of OT and SO points.

The NHL may have to go to a 3-2-1-0 points system to see that record broken.

2022-23 Season .. 29 games 18 wins 5 losses 6 OTL = 42 points.

Last year

2021-22 Season .. 29 games 19 wins 8 losses 2 OTL = 40 points. [In their last 20 games #9-#29 record was 16-3-1]

At mid season last year @ game #41 record 28 wins 10 losses 3 OTL = 59 points.

For the Leafs to match last year mid season mark .. Record required in the next 12 games = 8 - 3 - 1

From my being in Europe, what I remember most was losing to NJ in the playoffs only putting up 6 shots in one game. Puke.

I have no problem with him other than the size of the contract, which isn't his fault.

He's excellent on faceoffs and very good on the PP, which is pretty much where he thrives now.

But realistically he's an $11M 3C and PP specialist at this point.

Refreshing indeed. Looking back on it now, Campbell's emo post game pressers were a huge red flag.

Montreal was sick. Some of those numbers are embedded in my brain - 8 losses for the entire season and only one loss at home. Just unreal.

11 HOFers on that dynasty that won 4 straight cups, Ken Dryden, Larry Robinson, Serge Savard, Guy Lapointe, Guy Lafleur, Steve Shutt, Peter Mahovlich, Frank Mahovlich, Yvan Cournoyer, Jaques Lemaire and Henri Richard. We'll never see anything like that ever again in the cap era, just sick.

Because Holl is on an expiring contract and is a UFA at seasons end. I'm not necessarily talking about this current season, unless Holl's play declines.

Timmins could be a cheap replacement for him. Right now Brodie and Liljegren would appear to have the 2 top-4 RD spots going forward and next season when everyone is healthy.

I've watched a lot of hockey in my 68 years and that is the most bizarre sequence of calls I've ever witnessed. The League and Officials Association need to send that crew back to do about 20 AHL/OHL games when they're done that and they grade at A level then they can come back but no playoffs for them this year. That was a totally egregious display of what can only be called amateur level management.

Willu should have had 5 the previous two games.

He is in the best stretch of his career.

Last night they put the puck in from his passes. So often Willy makes a brilliant play and has terrible puck luck

Anytime you can acquire a top 6 dman for any 4th liner is a win.

Watching a lot of teams this year and so many struggle with their 6 blueliners.

I will give Dubas credit for putting together a backend that is at the very least 9 deep.

Mete is nothing special but has held his own and a lot of teams don't have a 9th as good as that.

I wouldn't even say they're usually brilliant plays, that's more Marner's wheelhouse of creating magic out of nothing. Nylander just consistently makes the correct play and puts a flat puck on someone's stick in a high danger area. If he was drafted on a worse team where the offense had to run through him he'd be a 90 point C like Backstrom.

Nylander is a very good passer, and can make those on the fly with accuracy and strength.

I've kind chuckled at a couple of his goals this year though ... some nonchalant deft movements with stick and there's the hole. Like on another level, but I think those things come and go.

Agreed. Neither of his goals last night were particularly impressive, although I think he made them look easier than they were, but the tenacity, boardwork, and pinpoint passing on the assists was stellar.

Considered by many one of the best if not the best team ever in North American team sport. That Montreal team was unreal with a who who of hockey royalty. That team had 9 HOFers + their coach

What happened to Bettman's parity?? Does this mean we'll have to double our charity to all the low lying teams now..?? :D
