Niagara Icedogs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
We had a few stellar transaction which account for a decent number of our wins. Loshko, NVV, Doherty for example.
After another colossal fail in the Import Draft, Loshko only became available to the IceDogs because of their 20th place futility the previous season. That is “stellar”. Wtf.

I am not happy about everything Sam. I just don't pretend to know what is going on in the offices or dressing room.

The fact remains. We have significant improvement. No, the Loshko pickup was not automatic because we had all over overagers on the roster at the time.

The reality of the OHL is if a GM did nothing their team would have a better record each year! What DD has accomplished in all aspects of this franchise is an embarrassment not an accomplishment.
Just wait for it this offseason, if he is still the owner.

Virgilio, Brauti, Scott, VanVliet, Loshko, Doherty, and Arrowsmith is much better than Podrekar, Frolov, and Vermeulen; now, and going forward.. Doing nothing would have very likely resulted in another last place finish.

I don’t pretend either. Facts only.

Half truths that further you agenda

Really, the difference between:

Virgilio, Brauti, Scott, VanVliet, Loshko, Doherty, and Arrowsmith

or

Loshko, Bryant, Eliasson, Frolov, Doherty and Vermeulen

…is last place!!! LOL. 😂

You want to put your rose-coloured glasses on and escort yourself out or do you need some assistance.

Again, ‘doing nothing’ would have very likely resulted in a last place finish. That would mean no Loshko, nothing for Eliasson, no Doherty. And I think the Icedogs got a bit lucky landing Brauti & Virgilio. I think at least a few teams would have taken a chance on a highly touted OHL prospect like Virgilio for 2,3,4 picks.
There was zero chance of Niagara getting Eliasson. The Senators viewed Williamson and the colts as the best placement available.

Well. Unless you work in the building. You are passing along second hand information at best.

That said, don't let me stop you. I value your posts on this board. You know more about Junior Hockey than I do.
Just FYI. I don’t post anything that is not true and there is more that I refrain from posting.

The performance of this team has declined all season from the fast beginning in which they probably weren't as good as their record to the recent tailspin where they're probably not as bad as the losses indicate. I think one area which no one has touched on all season is behind the bench. Agreed the defense is woeful but even with that there should have been some adjustments to their systems. Why have they not moved to a much simpler structure. This is a development league but has anyone seen any real development, especially from the '08's who are your future. Tough on these kids and doesn't auger well for drafting '09's who watch these rookies go stale. Team discontent, players leaving, others wanting out, staff quitting are more of a room issue than a front office problem. All in all it doesn't paint a good picture going forward. Some of this is on DD but there other individuals responsible for what goes on day to day. And no, I don't think draft choices and deadline additions would have eliminated these problems.

Countyview, excellent post. You make a lot of valid points and identified some of the key problems surrounding this franchise on and off the ice. It’s certainly is concerning times for the IceDogs. The recent player departure represent yet another lost draft choice and the player agent meetings casts a dark cloud on this team. Honestly, I can appreciate DD’s love for hockey, his desire to own an OHL team (and believe it or not I was fully supportive of Darren early on), however, this has just not worked out well for him or the fans in Niagara. Without a massive financial shift in how this franchise is run, Darren would best be served to seriously consider seeking out a motivated buyer and cut his losses before this get worse.

What recent player departure?

As usual jumping in on conversation you don’t have answers to. Seriously, why don’t you focus on your own team and mind your own business.

I do not have adequate funds to purchase my own team to focus on.
You could probably create your own forum that prohibits opinion that differs from yours though.

Actually, it’s only your opinions I don’t agree with and for good reasons.
