Well, I do appreciate the way carolina has played defence the last few yrs. Hopefully he doesnt skip a beat from the improvments hakstol had with the group. Still dont understand why manny is running the pp, youd think a guy that made his career off defence and had a whopping 7 powerplay goals his entire 900+game career would iunno... run the pk?

Hurricanes' assistant coach too... with the number of rumors surrounding Hamilton to the Leafs, it only makes sense to speak to someone with firsthand experience with him. Does he help with the PK too? Hurricanes have been 3rd and 4th best last two seasons.
What rumors of Hamilton to leafs?

Carolina is very aggressive on the PK and likes to counterattack with Aho and Necas. So I don't think Marner's minutes are going to be pulled back.

I’m hoping Keefe learned something from last year and brings Marner and Matthews down into the high 19 minute mark. Keeping them at 24 ish would be really dumb.

I wouldn't say dumb, but unnecessary.

Can you link to a source for this rumour?

Six year NHL assistant so no complaints here. I would rather add guys from overachieving franchises like Carolina than from clubs like Vancouver or recent Philly. He comes from a team with a much better coach than Keefe who doesn't play the crap out of its two best players so I think it could be a positive injection to SK's game planning. Chynoweth's Islander days were so long ago any Tavares connection or benefit would be a stretch but I hope Keefe has an open door to this guy.

Playing your players too much, even though you witnessed then get burnt out the previous season… that’s dumb.

Burnt out when? The stars out-chanced Columbus and Montreal. I don't know if it's fatigue.

Isn’t that what got Babcock roasted by the fanbase? Maybe he knew a thing or two?

It really looked like fatigue, and quite frankly, that’s the best possible scenario. That’s a problem easily remedied.
They were obviously worn down, but that wasn’t the concerning problem.

Hamilton to Maple Leafs Talk Heating Up, Morgan Rielly Out?
Elliotte Friedman was on SN 590’s show Lead Off with Ziggy and Scotty Mac and talked about the idea of Hamilton coming in to stabilize the blue line for a Leafs team that could stand to flip some of the roster after a disappointing first-round playoff exit. Friedman said he’s been told by sources that Hamilton might be interested in Toronto, considering he’s a local guy, but that other sources have suggested the Leafs might not be the best fit for Hamilton’s personality.

Is this our "killer instinct" coach ?

Dean's father was fairly famous and instrumental in hockey ..

Ed Chynoweth served as the President of the Western Hockey League (also known as the Western Canada Hockey League until 1978) from 1972 to 1979 and from 1980 to 1995 and as the President of the Canadian Hockey League from 1975 to 1995. He was instrumental in the formation of the CHL which joined the three major junior leagues of Canada.

Chynoweth was as elected to the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2000, and in 2007, the WHL honored him by renaming its championship trophy to bear his name. Incidentally the Ed Chynoweth Trophy, awarded to the top scorer at the Memorial Cup tournament, is also named after him.
