For the price, this is an great trade. ROR slots in #3C but you could put him up on the wing on important shifts or net front on PP. Need PK, depth and heart in the playoff, this guys got it in spades.
Great add for the price

I don't think Bill Guerin has any idea what he's doing, seems like a guy who just fell into this.
Billy Guarantee being an absolute G ferda boys. I imagine Doobie is gonna owe him one for that retention. Say what you will about Dubas, he seems to have really good working relationships around the league with several other GMs

Acciari 5v5 numbers:

oZone starts: 35.92%
xGF% REL: +1.40
Hits/60: 14.8 (9th highest of all 284 forwards with more than 500+ minutes this season)

Toronto really targeted the two guys playing the hardest minutes on the Blues, and doing it well.

Ok, here are my day after (sober) random thoughts.

Our biggest need/hole was 3C. The fit in a vacuum is absolutely perfect.

Acciari is solid on the 4th line and for PK. Great shot blocker.

The price considering the addition of Acciari and 75% retention was fair imo. Will it hurt if we lose in the first round - sure.

The fact that we did get 75% Retention clearly shows we are not done.

I personally believe that we just witnessed our first Shanahan trade. Mark Masters interview mentioned his affinity for ROR.

We still have a future 1 and a ton of prospects and young players. I truly believe we could make a hockey trade.

I believe we could easily land Chychrun/Gavrikov/Ekholm. OR. We could still even take a run at Laughton, Miller, Kane. 1 more big piece is coming.

I think the leafs paid a lot but it’s the deadline and everyone pays a lot. The leafs are at that point where need know is more important than draft picks.

Assuming next years first is off the table it probaly means any other trade will be depth help. Unless Dubas decides to trade Knies niemela or mitten.

Further point, even if they keep it and draft a guy like Mintin, it's still gonna take 2-3 years at least of good development to see them in the NHL.
And the first round draft pick is more like a second rounder by the time the Leafs pick.

I would have went on the assumption we missed the boat, and Traded Mathews for a boatload. As you say I would have never traded the past 1st rd picks either, I have always stated that since before the Kessel fiasco anyway. Our GM’s are impatient, MLSE will say they are impatient because the fans are. I’m just saying not all fans are the this year is it we have to go all in year, every year it seems. Boston will be tougher than Tampa anyway.
Yeah. Was tough to read between the lines there lol.

The Leafs have to go all in every year we have this core until they are no longer here or are unable to truly compete.

First rounders are most valuable if you actually need them and are picking top 10... top 5 even better lol.

This guy is an underrated gem. He's everything I hoped ZAR would be and isn't. Hope we can re-sign him in the summer.
I think this may be one of the rare instances where the entire forum loves the aquisition of a player (Acciari). We should all enjoy the moment!

Sidenote: trade deadline day is going to be a snoozefest given that Chychrun and Gavrikov are probabaly traded soon too.

I don't see Dubas moving any one of Kerfoot, Engvall or Holl.
The first two because he's loyal to a fault, Holl because he's too important for this blue line. And because Dubas is loyal to a fault.
If they include Holl it has to be to upgrade the D. The question is, what move would accomplish that, and at what cost?

I'm a little Luke warm on this but it's not my job on the line.

If he's skating fine after the foot issues then this could work out well.

It feels like Knies is getting a look at 2lw.

The mains are pissed we didint give up knies (they want him out of toronto at any cost) and are trying to go with ( dubas said no first for rental, leaf s lose) bwahahahahs. Pwned!!! Hf mains lose!!!! Again!!!!

Leafs fans for the most part love their own.
We love average David Kampf our shutdown centre...well guess what?
Instead of closing games with David Kampf who might be the 40-50th best shutdown centre. ROR is in the discussion after Bergeron as a top 5.

Having a guy that can kill penalties and be an elite faceoff guy is massive.

The ideal player to me is a guy who plays when you need a goal or are protecting a lead. On a PK or PP.
O'Reilly is a guy for all occasions.
I think you're underrated Kampf a bit. I understand the sentiment of the post though and agree.

It's amazing to think that we have Kampf as our 4C. He's a good 3C and an amazing 4C. Going to have 4 very productive lines when running ROR at C or we use Kampf at 3C when they want ROR to beef up the top 6 as a winger.

The depth is incredible.

Yup, if this team had trouble drafting I'd see it as an issue. However the drafting under Dubas has been solid. I'm not worried about Dubas, he's not the issue with the team. He does however need to acquire at least one more Accari type to replace Kerfoot.

Agreed. I would also add this: When the leafs are at a critical point in a series and something bad happens....it's usually a guy like O'Reilly who is doing it to us. Now we can maybe do it to someone else. We lacked a clutch guy throughout every single series IMO. His clutchness is more important than anything.

ROR is the best rental to get for playoffs and Toronto did it. Even if I think they need dmen before offense, I think they will be deadline top 3 winners with that move.
Well it’s also easier to trade for players when they choose where they want to go. First Gio and now ROR, makes it easier on Dubas for sure

This trade is very confusing for Minnesota.

They move Pillar (2021 4th round pick) for a 4th round pick and retain salary?

What is the incentive to include Pillar?
I agree that this is very confusing. It is hard to find out much about Pillar, but here is the best I could find.

The Wild traded two picks to Montreal in 2021 to move up in the draft to acquire PIllar as an overager. They must have liked him to move up.

He has not played much since then. There are vague reports about an injury and/or a medical condition, but I could not find details. I believe that he is back playing again.

The key reason the Wild may have let him go is that he needs a contract offer by June this year or they lose his rights. There was some speculation on the Wild board that they may not have planned to offer him a contract.

The Wild only paid about $75K in cash, so a fourth round pick is pretty steep. However, the pick is not until 2025, so that reduces the value.

My guess is that the Leafs see more potential than the Wild do that Pillar can be a reclamation project and agreed to overpay for the minimal retention because of it.

Went through this entire thread over breakfast, I'm exhausted.

My original thought from last night hasn't changed.
I don't know how anyone can't like this today but 3/4 months from now that could certainly change.

No matter where your thoughts lie, be assured there will be more moves to come which are no doubt tied to this.
Love him or not, Dubas like any GM, will not be thinking one move at a time.

Since coming back from injury:

Blues go 3-0 against the Yotes, Panthers, Devils.

5v5:
ROR leads all Blues forwards in icetime.
PPG

xGF%: 65.67

Hyped to see him tonight!
