I think this bodes very well for a re-sign.....
He didnt. He was offsideWe still need to extend Bunting and Samsonov too tho. Thankfully the entire D-corps is set to come back minus Holl.
He actually did tho lol...
I would have went on the assumption we missed the boat, and Traded Mathews for a boatload. As you say I would have never traded the past 1st rd picks either, I have always stated that since before the Kessel fiasco anyway. Our GM’s are impatient, MLSE will say they are impatient because the fans are. I’m just saying not all fans are the this year is it we have to go all in year, every year it seems. Boston will be tougher than Tampa anyway. Not sure if you're against this deal but I can tell you don't like trading picks.
The thing with trading picks, especially first rounders, is to do it when you believe your team can go deep. Pretty sure if the Leafs win their first round (finally!!), they will go deep. It will energize them and make them believe in themselves.
I'm ok with trading firsts in the next few years because this is a great team but so far has stalled in the playoffs. Those firsts are the pieces we use to trade for the help we need.
If not all in now, when?
The Foligno trade made sense at the time. That was the kind of player the team needed that season. If he didn't get hurt and miss most of that series we wouldn't still be talking about it years later.Agree, He is great, and plays physical playoff style of hockey. Could be an important piece come playoff time.
Overall solid trade, price was a bit high, but this is the year I would expect Kyle to go all in. He got this year, that's it.
1st round pick
2nd round pick
4th round pick
Wish we didn't waste 1st round pick on Folignos of the world.
You need a couple of ELC players on your roster to help with the CAP situation.
Bergeron drafted 45th Krecji 63rd Marchand 71st
With a load of good luck late 1st round pick can still be Pasta.
In part because our own goalie posted an identical save percentageYes and they still lost. Imagine if he plays even remotely up to his potential
You can look at it both ways i guess…
I think this bodes very well for a re-sign.....
In order to get meirer it would cost us thise same draft oucks plus instead if 2 non roster players with no upside it would cost 2 of knies/nielma/robertson/sandinIf another team offered him his 9.5, we would get 2 1sts, 2nd, 3rd. Not bad considering we had him for a playoff run. That being said I wouldn’t do it anyway, I think his qualifying offer is 10.
Leafs got some other player last year in a similar manner at the trade deadline. Can’t recall his name. It’ll be the same with this guy next year.
Exactly, it’s not like Ullmark has insane pedigree eithersamsonov has been stellar.

TDL isn’t for a few more weeksAgreed. Huge overpayment that now prevents the leafs from making other more pressing deals. At least he could have dumped the useless Kerfoot or Engvall to make room for future acquisitons.
Kerfoot is a guy who seems to excel in a 3rd line role, but is absolutely awful when playing in the top 6. Guessing it comes down to strength of opponents. He's a good winger who can produce 40-45 points. Not a bad guy to have on your 3rd line.Kerfoot couldnt finish when marner was feeding him gimmees

As much as I like Bunting, he is replaceable. So does this mean, Toronto could be a family choice for his next contract?
It's too bad he's only made $76mm.
Still needs a retirement contract ...
If I had to chose between Bunting and O'Rielly, I'd make my decision after the playoffs.
This trade is very confusing for Minnesota.
They move Pillar (2021 4th round pick) for a 4th round pick and retain salary?
What is the incentive to include Pillar?
A late first is a crap-shoot. Get over it. We're going for it this year.Hate giving up a first-round pick.
