Leafs fans for the most part love their own.
We love average David Kampf our shutdown centre...well guess what?
Instead of closing games with David Kampf who might be the 40-50th best shutdown centre. ROR is in the discussion after Bergeron as a top 5.

Having a guy that can kill penalties and be an elite faceoff guy is massive.

The ideal player to me is a guy who plays when you need a goal or are protecting a lead. On a PK or PP.
O'Reilly is a guy for all occasions.
Kampf is for sure over rated, he’s good defensively, I like him on the PK, but he’s a pretty one dimensional player, he’s isn’t some great get in the three hole, he’s serviceable. 4th line center playing 8 minutes, love him.

Just saw the trade for the 1st time. First thought is a little worrying. Huge amount to give up for a old rental having a down season regardless of the retention. Has a bit of Foligno fibes.

That being said if he returns to form the leafs center depth is obscene. Big risk, Kyle pushes the chips in it seems. Let's hope they make it past the first round or he is 100% fired.

Also with all that retention it makes you wonder if Muzzin is going to make a return before the playoffs or the leafs have another move in the works. Don't see why you retain that much otherwise
This is not really like the Foligno trade at all, he was actually a lot closer to Acciari than ROR. It's more like Giordano, where it's a formerly elite player who's now "just" very good. Except a younger and more versatile player

Although I'm not ROR biggest fan or fan of this deal, underlying stats suggest ROR has been setting up his linemates at a very high rate but they are not finishing. I do like his ability to take the puck away and with Accari being a dog on a bone, this team is harder to play against today than they were two days ago. It's that both player's are puck hounds that makes me a little happy but I still don't like the deal :P

More the old player having a down year filled with injuries rather than the quality of the player.

The same dude who's team traded it's 1st for f***ing Chiarot LOL

Says J Fresh, whoever that is?

JFresh is a statistician

He's actually siding with the Leafs here
The image he shared was not from him, but from someone on HF spouting out made up numbers to make the trade look worse

He's mocking those made up stats as insane

Agreed. ROR has been on another level compared to Foligno throughout their careers. Other than the fact that they are both former captains of their respective clubs, there's very little comparison between the two.

Big addition!
I like O'Rielly, and he gives us a ton of different options for lineup combinations, as he could work well with pretty much any of the top 3 lines.
I'm more confident in his production returning to recent levels than somebody like Kane.
Acciari is also a sneaky nice add.
I remember him from our series against Boston, and if you stand out enough to be remembered a half decade later by your opponents, you're doing something right.
Sucks to lose draft picks, but it's huge that we've kept all of our prospects and roster players. And it looks like we've spread out our draft picks, so it's not too much of a hit to any year.

It's tough to lose the 1st, but it was necessary for a playoff performer who is at the top of the scale. It basically allowed the Leafs to circumvent the Cap. Also, if between keeping Knies or trading the 1st, I'd trade a bottom end 1st Rounder the vast majority of the time.

Don't sleep on Acciari either. His addition makes the trade far more palpable from a draft pick asset standpoint. Precisely the types you want in your bottom 6. Can hit, dependable both ways, blocks shots and is involved.

Both of them in the lineup can re-slot players to make a game of chess much tougher for the opposition coach to think a few move ahead. Both can also play on special teams.

He basically addressed his forward needs while still maintaining some options at the deadline if so inclined.

Going to the game tonight, excited to see ROR in action! I LOVE this trade, especially with acquiring Acciari as well. Depth just got a lot better.

With this 75% retention as well, the dreamer in me is still hoping there’s a way to sneak in Kane as well ahaha but I’m very happy with this deal.

Holmberg was nice at first but wasn;t anything special as time went on. Was a good stop gap. We needed playoff grit and experience. Hoping Kerfoot is gone and replaced with Knies

Bunting - Mathews - Nylander
Knies - Tavares - Marner
Engvall - Orielly - Jarnkrok
ZAR - Kampf - Acciari

Now we talking
This is the line up I like. Or.....
Bunting Matthews Marner
JT ROR Nylander
Knies Kampf Jarnkrok
ZAR Acciari Engvall

Keefe just said in his presser that both players are "insisting" on playing tonight and are in the air as we speak
Looks like Keefe "used the wrong words" again. I'm sure he meant both players desire to play if the coach feels it will help the team.
