Oh well a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th for a rental, I wouldn’t have done it. No way we can extend him so it is just for this year. Bye Kyle…

The net win/loss of this trade will be determined by a) rounds won, and b) ROR re-signing.

This is a high price to pay for a recently injured rental, but if ROR re-signs, it’s no sweat. If he walks, our pick capital is pretty gutted and it’s a Foligno loss.

That being said, this checks every box that i’ve been looking for from the GM, so it’s pretty exciting in the short-term. A needle moving C with top-six impact, who has Selke/Smythe/cup to his name, can play the 3C matchup role, and is the prototype of Canadian playoff warrior.

Between Giordano and ROR, the leadership factor is rich. Huge step-up from Thornton, Marleau, etc. nonchalant jokers/chokers.

Acciari was a target of mine. Very pumped to have him as an add-on here. This is a guy who knows his role and doesn’t just play hard every shift, but will target opposing stars with his physicality. Has to be one of the harder hitting guys pound-for-pound, considering his size on paper.

Reassuring to see that Dubas isn't blind to the fact that this team pre-trade was one of the softest in the league. This helps considerably.

I'm a big Acciari fan .. I remember he was a PITA in those series against Boston .. great to have on our side for the fourth line.

Plus he's had some good offensive years so he can score.

need was a top 6 winger not another "center" who is coming off an injury and has been terrible.

overpayment to boot 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th....

absolute JOKE of a trade

I wouldn't read much into ROR's down year. Seems like he has had extremely shitty luck with linemates not finishing and his goalies playing dodgeball in net. He'll have better luck with the Leafs (unless he is stapled to Kerfoot who can't finish lol)

As someone who was both a scout, and who does forecasting/analytics for a massive company with billions of dollars of revenue every year this is fascinating. Thanks for posting. Lends itself to when I was an active scout and how I viewed the progression of skill-based progression.

I wish I had your old job.

I'm into economics/sales/forecasting/data-analytics/supply-chain now but if I could do it with hockey, that'd be pure joy.

Yeah no... you can't go into the playoffs having to shelter a line centred by Holmberg (or god forbid Kerfoot) against Tampa.

Centre depth was absolutely a priority.

A top 6 winger is more of a luxury

and what if the Leafs are able to get Kane too? what then? then Leafs get their winger. Get a good center. Fix the PP (being able to run 2 complete units with 4F)

ROR is also damn good on faceoffs.

You're not winning a playoff series against Tampa with Kampf as the 3rd line center. We desperately needed depth and toughness up front which this trade addresses. You can move ROR up to the top 6 wing spot if you want too. This move gives us a lot of options up front.

They need a Muzzin to replace Muzzin and then Muzzin to miracliously return from Robadis Island on the last game of the season (which incidentally I expect to happen). If these things come true, we're in business.

With Dubas saying he wouldn’t trade a 1st for a pure rental, does this suggest ROR may have an extension lined up?

The trade, I am super iffy about tbh extension or not. I also don’t see ROR taking a team friendly deal. This honestly has Foligno vibes all around it again.

sure kane is not going to cost another 1st eh? :shakehead

anyway... see u guys after 1st round

Leafs essentially have the following with NHL Centre experience:

Matthews
JT
ROR
Kampf
Accairi
Engvall
Homlberg
Kerfoot
Nylander

Straight sick.

That center was an elite 2-way 1C as recently as last season who could very well be playing as our 3C, so a slight drop off in competition for him

It's a risk but let's be honest it also has the potential to be a complete game changer for us

It's now or never for this core so let's at least give it a decent crack before we curl up into a ball and start sobbing
