Pretty good 3rd line centre. Might as well sell the farm for a top pairing D, all in is all in, can't fly on one wing.

Yeah so I just completely disagree with you on what is the inevitable weak point of this team. The defense atleast. The goaltending is what it is and likely no realistic way of improving it.

I'm saying if it doesn't work it won't be because of the forwards.

Defensively, they are absolutely elite and there's no denying it. The results prove it.

It's the blue-line defence position-players I mean, and of course our goaltending that will be the crux.

How does affect our 50 contract limit?

2 bodies in
2 out??? Were Gaudette and Abramov both on the 50 contract list?

Still at 49???
Yes.
0% chance this is even close to being true.

It's a hefty price, but those percentages must be way off.
70% seems way too high for all 1st round picks, but it's definitely a lot lower for where we'd be picking.
Pillar with 6 seasons in the WHL, some veteran leadership.
Five full seasons. He apparently played one game as a 15 year-old.

Former Conn Smyth/Selke winner. He’s spent the majority of his ice time playing with Josh Leivo and Brandon Saad. I think he can rebound here. Getting PP time with Matthews, Marner Nylander, Tavares and the occasional regular shift with Marner or Nylander or on the wing of Matthews or Tavares should perk him up bit. Great add. Drips leadership and a clutch playoff performer.

Acciari already has close to 170 hits this season. Fireplug. He's going to be important on the 4th line.

Maybe the best part of this trade is that I now know I don't have to take the day off work waiting for a blockbuster from the Leafs... it's done, so I can just watch on my tablet! :D

Drop Bunting and go with:

ROR-Matthews-Nylander
Bunting-Tavares-Marner

ROR and JT should not be on the same line .. too slow.

Keefe's going to cycle a top-line stack (interchangeably) of 34/16/88/91 and roll a second-line of Bunting/ROR/Kerfoot/rested top-line player, and then an odd third line shift.

That's going to be the play come playoff time.

What I'd do without further additions or deletions to the forward group:

Top six-combinations including Matthews/ROR/Tavares/Bunting/Marner/Nylander (not fussy about how each trio lines up)

Bottom six-Kerfoot/Kampf/Jarnkrok, Engvall-Acciari-ZAR (might see a different face or two at times if the team can finally go on some kind of run).

I don't think the full impact of this trade can be determined until Dubas drops the other shoe. I'm guessing ROR will be the 3C, and that there's going to be an upgrade at 2LW to come, allowing Jarnkrok to slide in beside ROR and either Knies or Holmberg. I see an upgrade over our current 3rd line, plus the potential for an upgrade on our 2nd line, while slotting Kamph's line where it should be, our 4th.

In each case, this helps reduce the defensive responsibilities our D corp faces, improves our offense, and gives our goalies more breathing space.

I'm most intrigued by who Dubas targets for the 2nd LW position.

He always drove me nuts when he was on Boston. Was hoping the Leafs could pick him up for a while.

Sad Blues fan here. Welp, another beloved piece has been traded away. He was integral in our winning the cup. Now it's your turn Toronto. Hope your guys take full advantage and get yours this season. Good luck, boys. Matt, Tavs and ROR is going to be fun to watch down the middle.

Depends on how you feel about the core of the team

Or how you feel about taking both Tampa and Boston through to the finals with what we have now?

Does ROR/Acciari really move that needle against both?

Maybe one, but both is still dicey and both of those teams haven't made their deadline moves either...

I think Pillar is the key to this trade.

ROR and Acciari are both big bodies and like to mix it up.
Really want to see the new lines this Sat.
